Chapter 23 - CHAPTER 23 — The Storm That Finally Looked Back

*Len stared at the screen for a long, quiet moment.

Two paths.

Two hearts.

One past that refused to die.

And somewhere in the middle…

A storm quietly waiting to explode.

The cursor blinked on the glowing laptop screen, almost like it was breathing with him —

slow…

uncertain…

and painfully alive.

Len swallowed hard.

It wasn't just a job application form.

It wasn't just a company requirement.

It wasn't even about a career anymore.

It was about the life he had been running from

vs

the life trying to chase him back.

And tonight… both had found him again.

1 — London's cold night, Len's colder heartbeat

The apartment was silent except for the muffled hum of the heaters.

London's winter rain tapped softly on the window.

Every drop sounded like a reminder.

A reminder of Seoul.

Of her.

Of everything he had lost.

His chest tightened.

He closed the laptop for a second, pressing both palms against his face.

"Why… now?" he whispered under his breath.

A notification buzzed on his phone.

NEW MAIL —

From: Arctix Fashion Global Headquarters

Location: London Main Tower**

A job offer.

A miracle.

A future.

And yet…

Len felt none of the excitement a normal person should feel.

Because inside that same company…

Mira was already working.

He didn't know it.

But fate did.

Fate was laughing softly in a dark corner.

2 — Memories he didn't invite, but still came

Len stood up and walked to the window, watching the blurry lights of London.

The city felt huge, loud, alive —

yet his heart felt like a deserted street.

Behind those lights, he saw shadows of the past.

Mira's smile.

Mira's voice.

Mira's tears on the day they split.

"Don't say it, Len… please…"

Her trembling voice echoed somewhere deep in his memory.

He squeezed his eyes shut.

He didn't want to remember.

But memories don't need permission.

3 — Across London… another heart shook

At the same hour.

Same city.

Different room.

Mira stood nervously in the elevator of Arctix Fashion Tower.

Her hands were trembling around a file.

Not because of her job.

But because of a mail she had seen earlier.

The recruitment list.

The new applicants.

One name.

Len.

Her breath almost stopped.

She held the file tightly, her heartbeat loud in her ears.

"Why would he come here…?" she whispered.

Her colleague, Reina, glanced at her.

"You okay?"

"Y-Yeah… just tired."

But she wasn't tired.

She was terrified.

Terrified that the past she buried…

was walking toward her again.

4 — Midnight: Fate quietly rearranges the pieces

Back in his apartment, Len opened the laptop again.

The screen lit up his tired eyes.

ARCTIX FASHION — FINAL INTERVIEW CONFIRMATION

Len hesitated.

His finger hovered above the "CONFIRM ATTENDANCE" button.

His breath was shaky.

"Tomorrow… I face everything again," he murmured.

He didn't know if that meant a career breakthrough…

…or reopening an old wound.

He clicked.

Confirmed.

At the same moment…

Mira received a notification.

NEW SCHEDULE:

You have been assigned as the evaluation assistant for tomorrow's candidate assessment.

Candidate name:

Len

Her legs nearly gave out.

She grabbed the table for support.

"…No.

Why him?

Why now…?"

Her voice broke.

Somewhere fate whispered back:

"Because storms don't stay waiting forever."

5 — The storm shifts: A third heart awakens

Across London, in a quiet studio room…

Rina — the mysterious girl from Len's past —

sat alone on a piano bench.

Her fingers hovered above the keys, unmoving.

She wasn't playing tonight.

She wasn't able to.

Her phone glowed with a newspaper article:

Arctix Fashion Tower announces massive hiring program in London.

Her lips tightened.

"Len…

So you finally stepped onto the path again."

Her voice was soft, but her eyes were sharp.

Not angry.

Not jealous.

Just… determined.

She stood up, slipping on her long black coat.

"It's time we stop pretending distance can fix what fate has already written."

She walked out.

Another path began moving toward Len.

A storm with three hearts…

Now dangerously close.

6 — Dawn breaks… with tension thick in the air

Next morning.

Len wore a formal gray suit, took a deep breath, and stepped into the elevator of Arctix Tower.

His heartbeat wasn't normal.

It wasn't fear.

It was something older.

Something unfinished.

As he stepped out into the bright hallway…

Mira turned a corner.

Her steps halted.

Her breath caught.

Len froze too.

For a moment…

London felt silent.

Two pasts.

Two broken pieces.

Standing face-to-face again.

And somewhere in the shadows…

Rina watched.

Unseen.

Silent.

And waiting.
