Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 – When Old Wounds Whisper Again

The cold London air wrapped around Len like an invisible hand as he stood between Ji-Yeon and Hana. The silence hovering above them was so intense that even the passing cars felt muted.

Ji-Yeon's expression had turned back into the unreadable corporate mask she always wore.

Hana looked confused, worried… and maybe even hurt.

Len exhaled.

"I should go," he whispered, taking a step backward.

But Ji-Yeon spoke first.

Her voice soft, yet sharp enough to wound.

"Len… we're not finished talking."

Hana's eyes widened.

She glanced at Len, then at Ji-Yeon.

"You two… really do know each other."

Her voice trembled slightly — not jealous, but scared that she was walking into something she didn't understand.

Len swallowed hard. "Hana, I'll explain later."

But Hana shook her head.

"No. You don't need to."

Her smile was weak. "I think… I already understand enough."

She gave a small bow and walked away.

Not angry — just quietly stepping back.

Ji-Yeon watched her leave, tension growing in her jaw.

"Why did you follow her?" she asked.

Len turned sharply. "Because she didn't deserve to feel confused."

"And I deserved it?" Ji-Yeon asked quietly.

The question cut deeper than he expected.

Len clenched his fists.

"Ji-Yeon… what do you want from me?"

She looked down, her breath fogging in the cold air.

"I don't know," she whispered. "I told myself that if I ever saw you again, I would walk away without a word. But when you stood in that hall… I couldn't breathe."

Her voice trembled for the first time.

"It felt like the past came back just to break me again."

Len's chest tightened painfully.

"Ji-Yeon… you were the one who left."

She flinched as if struck.

"That's not fair," she said quietly.

"But it's true," Len replied. "Ten years, Ji-Yeon. I kept waiting for a reason, for closure… anything."

She shook her head slowly.

"You think I didn't suffer? You think I didn't cry every night for months? You think letting go was easy for me?"

Len turned away, unable to look at her.

"Then why didn't you come back?"

Ji-Yeon closed her eyes.

"Because I was scared… that the person I lost was already gone."

A cold wind blew between them.

For a moment, neither spoke.

Finally, Ji-Yeon stepped forward — not close enough to touch him, but close enough for him to hear her heartbeat in the silence.

"Tomorrow, after the results… meet me on the rooftop," she whispered.

Len looked at her carefully. "What for?"

"To end this properly…"

She paused.

"…or to begin again. I don't know yet."

And before he could answer, she turned and walked away into the London evening.

Len watched her disappear around the corner.

His heart felt like a battlefield…

Half destroyed by memories,

Half rebuilt by unanswered hopes.

Just when he thought the night had ended, his phone buzzed.

Hana: "If you need someone to talk to… I'm here."

Len stared at the screen for a long, quiet moment.

Two paths.

Two hearts.

One past that refused to die.

And somewhere in the middle…

A storm quietly waiting to explode.
