Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 – The Night the World Went Quiet

Thunder rattled the windows.

Len stood between Aira and Rina, but for the first time…

he felt truly alone.

Silence spread between the three of them—

not normal silence,

but the kind that suffocates the chest

and makes even breathing feel like a crime.

The system flickered weakly above Len's shoulder:

[Fate Entanglement: 99%]

[Collision Event: Active]

A storm outside.

A worse storm inside.

Len Finally Spoke

"I can't… choose right now."

Aira's fingers loosened.

Rina's expression froze.

He looked at both of them—

eyes tired, soul heavier than ever.

"Every time I try to remember who I was…

I lose who I am now."

Aira stepped closer, tears trembling in her eyes.

"You don't have to remember anything.

I'm here. I can be your present—your reality."

Rina's jaw tightened.

"And what if his present is built on a lie?"

Aira's head snapped toward her.

"Don't you dare—"

"I'm not attacking you," Rina interrupted, voice steady but painfully gentle.

"But Len lost something before he reached this world.

I lost him too."

She looked at Len.

Not demanding.

Not forcing.

Just… breaking.

Len's Heart Cracked

He could feel both their emotions ripping him apart:

Aira's fear of losing him.

Rina's fear of being forgotten.

And his own fear—

of choosing wrong.

He pressed a hand against his forehead as the system glowed again:

[Emotional Overload]

A rush of images hit him—

• A broken battlefield

• A girl crying his name

• Another girl pulling him from darkness

• A collapsing temple

• His own hands covered in someone's blood

Len stumbled.

Aira rushed forward to catch him.

But Rina reached first.

Her hands held his shoulders gently, like she had done it a thousand times before.

Aira saw that.

And her heart shuddered.

Then Rina whispered

"Len… whether you choose me or not…

I will still stand by you."

Aira snapped.

The storm inside her finally broke.

"Why? Why do you act like you own his past?

Why do you think pain gives you more right over him?"

Rina turned, eyes burning.

"This isn't about rights."

"This is about truth."

"Then say it!" Aira shouted.

"Say what happened between you two!"

Rina looked at Len, then at Aira…

and for the first time, her voice cracked:

"…he died."

The room froze.

Aira's mouth opened but no sound came out.

Len felt cold.

Rina continued, voice trembling:

"In my world…

Len died in front of me."

Thunder exploded outside, shaking the building.

Aira shook her head violently.

"No… no… that's not possible."

Rina didn't blink.

"He died… and the world reset.

A different world.

A different life.

A different you."

Aira stepped back as if slapped.

Len's breath hitched.

The system turned red—

[Temporal Truth: Confirmed]

[Previous Cycle Death: Recovered]

Len felt like the ground disappeared beneath him.

Len collapsed to his knees

Aira ran to him.

Rina knelt beside him.

Both reached for his hands.

Len stared at them—

one hand in Aira's warm grip,

the other in Rina's trembling one.

Two worlds.

Two lives.

Two truths.

Rina whispered:

"You promised you'd find me again."

Aira whispered:

"You promised you wouldn't leave me alone."

Len didn't know which promise was real.

Or if both were.

His voice cracked.

"I… can't do this.

Not tonight."

He pulled his hands away—slowly, painfully.

Both girls froze.

Len stood up

Not stable.

Not strong.

Just… tired.

"I need time.

Alone."

Aira's tears finally fell.

Rina closed her eyes, accepting the wound even before it landed.

Len walked past both of them…

opened the door…

and stepped into the cold, storm-filled night.

Neither followed.

The door closed behind him with a soft click—

but it felt like a blade.

The world finally went quiet.
