Chapter 28
Luce's expression had turned to stone, his gaze cutting like ice. The brief warmth that had passed between them when Euphoria fed him was gone, replaced by a chilling void.
In the flickering red firelight, his pale, bloodless face looked ghostly—almost terrifying.
A wave of anxiety washed over Euphoria as she realized the weight of her words. Wayne, meanwhile, had already scrambled back, shifting into his lion form and baring his fangs in a desperate snarl.
Luce didn't even acknowledge him. His deep, ocean-purple eyes were fixed solely on Euphoria. Without a word, he swept her up and began to glide toward the darkness of the forest.
Wayne lunged at him in a panic, but Luce swatted him away a second time—this time with enough force to send the lion tumbling through the dirt.
"Wayne!" Euphoria cried out, watching him crash into the shadows.
