Peggy quietly listened from behind the pumpkin house as Kichy Rabbit and Miku the Monkey whispered about their plan.
"A big basket… and all the carrots in one night!" Kichy Rabbit said happily.
Peggy smiled.
"Oh no, Kichy Rabbit," she whispered. "This time the garden will be ready."
Early the next morning, Peggy called another garden meeting.
All the vegetables gathered inside the pumpkin house.
The carrots looked worried.
"The rabbit will take all of us!" one carrot cried.
"Don't worry," Peggy said confidently. "We have our own plan."
Grandma Cabbage nodded proudly. "Peggy always has a clever idea."
Peggy explained the plan to everyone.
First, the tomatoes rolled the big basket near the carrot field.
Then the pumpkins filled the basket with heavy stones and muddy leaves.
Finally, the chillies placed a few very spicy peppers on top.
When the night came, everything looked normal again.
The carrots stood quietly in their rows.
The garden looked peaceful.
Soon… hop… hop… hop…
Kichy Rabbit arrived with Miku the Monkey.
"Look!" said Kichy excitedly. "The basket is already here!"
"Perfect!" said Miku.
They quickly filled the basket with carrots and tried to lift it.
"One… two… three!"
But the basket would not move.
It was too heavy!
Kichy Rabbit pulled with all his strength.
Suddenly the basket flipped over!
Stones, leaves, and spicy peppers fell all over them.
"AHHH! My eyes!" shouted Miku.
"My nose! My nose!" cried Kichy Rabbit as the chillies made him sneeze.
From behind the pumpkin house…
Peggy and all the vegetables burst out laughing.
"SURPRISE!" Peggy shouted.
Kichy Rabbit and Miku ran away as fast as they could.
But as they ran, Kichy Rabbit stopped for a moment and looked back at the garden.
That night, Kichy learned an important lesson, and Peggy welcomed him into the Pumpkin House as family, reminding him that he never needed to steal when he was hungry—he only needed to ask
