Chapter 31
The sanctuary slowly grew quiet again.
Dust drifted through the golden light as the echoes of the battle faded from the chamber. The ancient dragon statues stood silently along the walls, watching over the throne as they had for centuries.
Ariana lowered her hands.
The last traces of golden light faded from her fingers.
Her arms felt heavy now, like she had just run for miles.
Kael noticed immediately.
"You okay?"
Ariana nodded slowly.
"I think so."
She looked down at her hands again.
"That power feels… different."
Kael folded his arms.
"Different good?"
"Different powerful."
The dragon's deep voice rumbled through the chamber.
Your power grows stronger every time you use it.
Ariana looked up at Vormerion.
"So the more I practice, the stronger it becomes?"
Yes.
The ancient dragon shifted his wings slowly.
But your enemies grow stronger as well.
Kael glanced toward the tunnel again.
"They'll come back."
Ariana nodded.
"The hunter said that too."
