Chapter 33
The battlefield slowly grew quiet.
Smoke drifted across the mountains as the last Abyss beasts disappeared into the dark clouds. The sky that had been filled with fire and shadows only moments ago now glowed with soft golden light.
Royal dragons circled high above the mountain.
Their wings moved slowly now, no longer rushing into battle.
The war had ended.
At least for today.
Ariana stood at the edge of the cliff.
Her legs still felt weak, but Kael's arm supported her as she steadied herself.
Below them the mountains were scarred with the marks of battle.
Broken stone.
Burned ground.
But the dragons were alive.
Many of the ones that had fallen earlier were now flying again.
Ariana watched them in silence.
"I cannot believe that worked."
Kael followed her gaze across the sky.
"Well," he said calmly, "you did just raise half a dragon army."
Ariana let out a small breath of disbelief.
"That sounds insane when you say it like that."
Kael smirked slightly.
