Chapter 30
The first Abyss hunter moved.
He didn't run.
He simply raised his hand.
Black lightning exploded across the chamber.
It shot toward Ariana like a living spear.
Kael moved instantly.
His wolf instincts reacted before his mind did.
He stepped in front of Ariana and swung his arm forward.
A burst of white energy crashed into the dark lightning.
The two powers collided in the air.
The impact shook the chamber.
Stone cracked beneath their feet.
Dust rained down from the ceiling.
Kael slid back a step but didn't fall.
"Well," he muttered.
"That was rude."
The Abyss hunter tilted his head slightly.
His silver eyes glowed with cold interest.
"So the Storm Wolf protects the Sovereign."
Kael rolled his shoulders.
"Yeah."
"That's kind of the job."
Behind the first hunter, the other four stepped into the chamber.
Dark armor covered their bodies like living shadows.
The air grew colder.
Even the golden lights of the sanctuary flickered uneasily.
