Jay's POV
Dinner was weird. The kind of weird where no one talks, forks just scrape plates, and you can feel the tension heavy in the air.
Dad finally cleared his throat. "So…" He looked at Jane. "You and Yuri."
Jane froze, mid‑bite. "Um. Yeah? Us."
Mom folded her hands. "We're not angry," she said gently. "But you know the rules, sweetheart. School first. No sneaking out. And—"
"—boundaries," Dad finished, giving her a pointed look. "You two are young. Respect that."
Jane's cheeks went pink, but she nodded fast. "Yes, sir. Promise."
I almost exhaled in relief, but then Jare slammed his fork down.
"Wait. That's it? You're okay with this? After everything?" His arms crossed like a storm cloud was forming right at the table.
Dad sighed. "She's growing up, son. We can't choose for her."
"But—it's Yuri!" Jare said, gesturing wildly as if the name itself was a criminal offense.
Mom hid a smile behind her glass. "Yuri seems respectful. We trust Jane to make smart choices."
Jare frowned, looking between all of us, finally landing on Jane's hopeful face.
She whispered, "Please, Jare. Don't make this a war."
He groaned, rubbing a hand over his face. "Fine. But if he hurts you—"
"—you'll have to go through Mom first," I cut in quickly before he could finish the threat.
Everyone laughed, even him, and just like that, the tension cracked.
Jane threw her arms around him. "You're the best brother."
"I didn't say that," he mumbled, hugging her back anyway.
I grinned, holding up my phone. "Okay, official announcement time—"
"Jay, don't you dare—" Jane started, but too late.
"Jari is official!" I shouted, spinning in my chair.
The room erupted — groans, laughter, Mom muttering something about "too much energy."
Jane hid her face, laughing, while Jare rolled his eyes. But even he couldn't hide his smile.
Maybe having my twin dating my friend was messy. Maybe it'd cause chaos.
Jane's POV
I don't think I've ever dreaded dinner this much. The clinking of forks was louder than usual, and nobody was making eye contact — which was honestly worse than yelling.
Dad finally broke the silence. "So, Jane," he said slowly. "You and Yuri."
My heart practically stopped. "Uh… yes?" I tried to sound calm, but my voice cracked halfway through.
Mom smiled, kind but firm. "We're not upset, sweetheart. We just want you to remember: school comes first, no sneaking out, and—"
"—boundaries," Dad finished, looking straight at me. "Clear ones."
I nodded so fast it hurt. "Of course! Totally! We're being careful."
For a second, I thought that was it — until Jare put his fork down with a metallic clink.
"Wait. You two are okay with this?" he demanded, eyes wide. "After all that chaos?"
Dad sighed. "She's growing up, son. We can't pick who she cares about."
"But it's Yuri!" Jare exploded. "He—"
"—is a good kid," Mom said before he could finish. "We've met him, remember? He was respectful."
Jare looked like he wanted to argue, but then his gaze met mine — and whatever fire he had just... softened.
I whispered, "Please, Jare. Don't make this harder."
He groaned, dragging a hand down his face. "Fine. But if he hurts you—"
"—you'll have to go through Mom first," Jay cut in, ever the peacemaker-slash-agent-of-chaos.
Everyone laughed. Even Jare cracked a reluctant smile.
Relief flooded my chest, and before I could stop myself, I jumped up and hugged him. "You're the best, you big idiot."
"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, hugging me back with one arm. "Don't make me regret this."
Jay suddenly whipped out her phone, that mischievous grin lighting up her whole face. "Okay, official announcement time—"
"Jay, don't you dare!" I shouted, but she already spun toward us.
"Jari is official!" she shrieked.
Dad blinked. "Jari?"
Jare groaned so loud it echoed. "I want a refund on this family."
I couldn't even be mad — I was laughing too hard, cheeks burning, heart full.
