Jare's POV
I was chilling in my chair, laughing with the boys about some random joke Blaster had cracked, when I felt a sudden tap on my arm. I looked up and saw C-in standing there, his eyes wide with that innocent "help me" look I knew all too well.
"Jare, can I have your phone, please?" he begged, practically vibrating with impatience.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Why?"
"Because I wanna play games on your phone," he said, flashing those ridiculous puppy eyes, "and my phone's dead."
I sighed—the kind of sigh that screams, 'I'm definitely gonna regret this,'—but still tossed my phone to him. "Fine. Don't mess with my stuff, though."
He lit up like a Christmas tree. "Promise!"
C-in's POV
I sat cross-legged on the floor, fully focused on beating the next level. The guys were still joking around, their laughter echoing through the room. That's when it happened—a little ping sound. A notification popped up at the top of the screen.
Babe ❤️❤️: "Hey baby, what are you doing tonight?"
I froze. My eyes nearly popped out of my head.
Did that just say babe?
Curiosity won over my conscience in a fraction of a second. I hesitated, my thumb hovering over the message. Should I? Shouldn't I? Oh, who was I kidding—of course I should.
I gasped loudly. Like, movie-style gasp.
"Ci, you okay?" Jay asked, turning toward me.
"Um…" I held up the phone so she could see. Her reaction was even louder. She let out a dramatic gasp that made everyone else in the room turn to look.
"What happened?" Blaster jumped up from the couch.
Before I could even answer, Jay yelled, "Jare's got a girlfriend!"
That got everyone's attention.
"WHAT?!" shouted Keifer from across the room, nearly dropping his soda.
Blaster pointed accusingly at Jare. "YOU have a huzz! Jare's got a huzz!"
The room exploded in cheers and laughter. Jay and Jane started chanting, "Jare's got a girlfriend!" over and over while the others joined in, clapping and teasing him.
Jare's face went bright red. "Gimme that!" he said, lunging for his phone.
But I was faster. I dodged, holding it out of reach as everyone surrounded me, desperate for more details. Even Keifer was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes.
Finally, when everyone had calmed down—well, sort of—all eyes turned back to Jare. He ran a hand through his hair, looking both exasperated and mildly amused.
"I'll give it to you if you tell us who she is !" I yelled
"Alright, alright," he said, grinning just a little. "You guys wanna know who she is?"
The crowd leaned in, hanging on his next words.
And that's when he smiled.
