Chapter 19 - Chapter19:The Road to the Capital

# Chapter 19: The Road to the Capital

The night was dark. The moon was hidden behind clouds. The forest was quiet. Only the wind moved through the trees. It made a whispering sound. It sounded like secrets being shared. Lin Yu walked through the shadows. He did not make a sound. His steps were light. He did not crush the leaves. He did not break the twigs. He was a ghost. He was a fugitive.

He had left the Azure Sect behind. The walls were far away. The lights were gone. The alarms had stopped. But he knew they were still looking for him. Chen would send hunters. The Guild would send assassins. They wanted him dead. They wanted the proof he held. They wanted the Sword Box. But they would not find him. Not yet.

Lin Yu walked for three hours. He did not stop. He used Qi to strengthen his legs. He did not feel tired. He did not feel pain. He felt only focus. His mind was clear. He thought about Mei Ling. She was safe in the compartment. The fire did not reach her. The Sword Box had confirmed it. Her life sign was stable. She would wait. She would hide. She would survive.

"I will come back," Lin Yu thought. "When Chen is dead. When the sect is clean."

He stopped by a river. The water was black. It reflected the stars. He knelt down. He washed his face. The water was cold. It woke him up. He looked at his reflection. He looked different. His eyes were sharper. His face was harder. There was a scar on his cheek. It was from Chen's staff. It was red. It was fresh. It would heal. But the memory would stay.

[Status Report.] The Sword Box voice spoke. It was clear in his mind. [Health: 90%. Qi: 70%. Energy: 550. Location: 20 Miles from Sect.]

"Health is low," Lin Yu thought. "I need to rest."

[Recommendation: Find shelter. Meditate. Heal.]

Lin Yu stood up. He looked around. The river bank was open. It was not safe. He needed cover. He walked into the trees. He found a cave. It was small. It was under a rock overhang. It was dry. It was hidden. He went inside. He set up traps. He put tripwires at the entrance. He put smoke bombs nearby. If anyone came, he would know.

He sat in the center. He crossed his legs. He closed his eyes. He started the Qi Breathing Method. He pulled the energy from the air. It was thin here. It was not like the Ancient Land. But it was enough. He guided it to his meridians. He healed the burns. He healed the cuts. The skin knitted together. The pain faded.

He meditated for four hours. The sun rose. The light came into the cave. It was pale. It was weak. Lin Yu opened his eyes. He felt better. His health was back. His Qi was full. He stood up. He stretched. His bones popped. He felt strong.

He ate a piece of beast meat. It was dried. It was tough. It gave energy. He drank water from his bottle. He packed his bag. He checked his sword. The Silent Edge was clean. It was sharp. It hummed softly. It was ready.

He walked out of the cave. He looked north. The Imperial Capital was that way. It was five days walk. He needed to get there fast. But he could not run openly. He was a wanted man. His face was known. His description was spread. He needed to hide.

"Box," Lin Yu said. "Can you change my appearance?"

[Yes. Illusion Skill. Cost: 10 Energy per hour.]

"Activate," Lin Yu said.

[Confirmed. Energy Deducted: 10. Current Energy: 540.]

Lin Yu felt a tingling sensation. His face changed. His hair grew longer. His eyes changed color. He looked like a stranger. He looked like a mercenary. No one would recognize him. It was useful. It was safe.

He started walking. He followed the road. But he stayed in the trees. He did not walk on the path. The path was for merchants. It was for travelers. It was dangerous. Bandits waited there. Guards waited there. Hunters waited there. Lin Yu stayed in the shadows.

He walked for two days. The landscape changed. The forest became hills. The hills became plains. The air became warmer. The Qi became denser. The Capital was near. It was a hub of energy. Many cultivators lived there. Many sects had branches there. It was a dangerous place. But it was also a safe place. In a crowd, you could hide.

Lin Yu stopped at a town. It was small. It was called Green Water Town. It was on the way to the Capital. He needed supplies. He needed information. He walked into the town. He kept his head down. He wore his hood. He looked like a traveler.

He went to a tavern. It was loud. People drank. People ate. People talked. Lin Yu sat in the corner. He ordered food. He listened. He heard rumors.

"Did you hear?" one man said. He was fat. He had a beard. "The Azure Sect is in chaos."

"What happened?" another asked. He was thin. He had a scar.

"An Elder was exposed," the fat man said. "Chen. He was working with Beast Tamers. Selling disciples."

"Really?" the thin man asked. "Who exposed him?"

"A disciple," the fat man said. "Lin Yu. He is a traitor. He killed assassins. He burned the hall. He ran away."

"Chen is hunting him," the thin man said. "Reward is high. 10,000 Spirit Stones."

Lin Yu ate his food. He did not react. His face was calm. But inside, he was angry. Chen was spinning the story. He was the victim. Lin Yu was the traitor. It was clever. It was cruel. But Lin Yu expected it.

"10,000 is a lot," a third man said. He wore black robes. He looked dangerous. "I might look for him."

"Good luck," the fat man said. "He is a ghost. No one sees him."

Lin Yu finished his food. He paid. He left. He did not linger. The man in black robes watched him. He looked suspicious. Lin Yu felt the gaze. He kept walking. He went to the supply shop. He bought pills. He bought food. He bought a map. He did not talk. He paid with spirit stones. He left quickly.

He walked out of the town. He went into the forest. He felt the presence following him. It was the man in black robes. He was not a merchant. He was a hunter. He wanted the reward.

[Detection: Human. Level 4. Distance: 100 meters. Hostile.] The Sword Box said.

Lin Yu stopped. He stood under a tree. He waited. The man came closer. He thought Lin Yu did not know. He thought Lin Yu was weak. He was wrong.

The man stepped into the clearing. He held a sword. It was steel. It was shiny. He smiled. It was a greedy smile.

"Hand over the bag," the man said. "And I will let you live."

Lin Yu did not speak. He looked at the man. He analyzed him. Level 4. Same as Lin Yu. But Lin Yu had skills. Lin Yu had the Box. Lin Yu had experience.

"I said hand it over," the man shouted. He charged. He swung the sword. It was fast. It was strong.

Lin Yu did not move. He waited. The sword came down. Lin Yu activated the Sword Domain. The air froze. The man slowed down. His sword moved like it was in water. He was shocked. He could not believe it.

"What—" the man started to say.

Lin Yu swung. Silent Edge. Shadow Slash. The black slash flew. It hit the man's sword. The sword broke. It snapped in half. The slash continued. It hit the man's chest. He fell. He died.

[Victory Achieved.] The Sword Box said. [Energy Gained: 100. Current Energy: 640.]

Lin Yu searched the body. He took the spirit stones. He took the sword fragments. He took a token. It was a hunter token. It was from the Guild. Chen hired independent hunters too. Not just sect members. It was a wide net.

Lin Yu burned the body. He did not want evidence. He did not want trackers. He walked away. He did not look back. He was closer to the Capital. He could see the sky glow. It was orange. It was from the city lights. It was from the formations.

He walked until night. He stopped at a hill. He looked at the Capital. It was huge. It was surrounded by walls. They were high. They were thick. They had towers. They had guards. It was a fortress. It was impossible to enter without permission.

"Box," Lin Yu said. "How to enter?"

[Options: Gate. Secret Tunnel. Wall.]

"Gate is guarded," Lin Yu thought. "Tunnel is trapped. Wall is high."

[Recommendation: Gate. Use Illusion. Use Forgery.]

Lin Yu nodded. He needed a pass. He could not walk in without one. He looked at the hunter's token. It was from the Guild. But it had some value. He could use it. He could pretend to be a mercenary. Mercenaries entered freely. They guarded the city. They killed beasts.

"I will be a mercenary," Lin Yu thought.

He waited for morning. The sun rose. The gates opened. People entered. Merchants. Travelers. Cultivators. Lin Yu joined the line. He kept his head down. He showed the token. The guard looked at it. He looked at Lin Yu. He used a detection stone. It glowed green. It meant no threat.

"Enter," the guard said.

Lin Yu walked in. He was inside. The city was loud. It was busy. Streets were packed. Shops were open. Cultivators flew on swords. Beasts pulled carts. It was a hub of activity. It was dangerous. But it was safe for him. No one knew his face. The illusion held.

He walked to the mercenary guild. It was a large building. It had a sign. It had a flag. He went inside. He registered. He gave a fake name. "Lin Feng." He took a mission. It was simple. Clear beasts near the city. It gave him a reason to be here. It gave him access to the board.

He looked at the mission board. He saw many papers. He looked for clues. He looked for energy signatures. He saw one. It was old. It was faded. *Lost Artifact. Reward: High. Location: Old Ruins.*

[Energy Signature Match.] The Sword Box said. [Fragment Nearby.]

Lin Yu took the mission. He put it in his bag. He walked out. He needed to find the ruins. He needed to find the fragment. But he was careful. The Guild was here. Chen had friends here. He needed to be smart.

He walked to the market. He bought supplies. He bought information. He talked to a beggar. He gave him a spirit stone. The beggar talked.

"Old Ruins are dangerous," the beggar said. "People go in. They do not come out."

"Why?" Lin Yu asked.

"Spirits," the beggar said. "And thieves. A gang controls it. The Black Snake Gang. They kill anyone."

"Where is their base?" Lin Yu asked.

"North side," the beggar said. "Near the river."

Lin Yu nodded. He gave another stone. He walked away. He had the location. He had the target. He needed to prepare. He could not rush. He needed to plan.

He found an inn. It was cheap. It was quiet. He rented a room. He locked the door. He sat on the bed. He took out the map. He marked the ruins. He marked the gang base. He marked the guild.

"Box," Lin Yu said. "Plan the route."

[Route Set. Avoid main roads. Use the sewers. Arrival: Night.]

"Good," Lin Yu said.

He rested. He ate. He meditated. He waited for the sun to set. The city was loud at night. It was louder than the sect. It never slept. But Lin Yu slept. He needed to be fresh. He needed to be ready.

He woke up at midnight. The city was quieter. The lights were dim. He put on his cloak. He checked his sword. He checked his traps. He opened the window. He jumped out. He landed on the roof. He ran. He was fast. He was silent. He moved like a shadow.

He reached the north side. It was dark. It was abandoned. The buildings were old. They were broken. The river flowed nearby. It smelled of waste. It smelled of death. He found the ruins. It was a temple. It was half buried. It was guarded.

He saw the guards. They wore black. They had snakes on their armor. They were the gang. They were Level 3. They were weak. But there were many. Ten guards.

[Detection: 10 Humans. Level 3. Inside: 1 Human. Level 5. Boss.]

"Ten guards," Lin Yu thought. "One boss."

[Strategy: Stealth. Eliminate guards. Confront boss.]

Lin Yu moved. He used the shadows. He jumped from roof to roof. He dropped behind a guard. He cut his throat. The guard fell. No sound. He dragged the body into the dark. He did it again. And again. He killed five guards. The others did not notice. They were bored. They were talking. They were drinking.

Lin Yu threw a stone. It hit a wall. *Clack.* The guards turned. They walked to the sound. Lin Yu waited. He activated the Sword Domain. The air froze. The guards slowed down. He slashed. He killed them all. It was fast. It was efficient.

He walked into the temple. It was dark. He lit a small flame. He saw the boss. He sat on a throne. He was big. He had a scar. He held a heavy axe. He looked at Lin Yu. He was not surprised.

"I knew someone would come," the boss said. His voice was deep. "You killed my men."

"They were in the way," Lin Yu said.

"You want the artifact," the boss said. "Everyone wants it. It is cursed."

"I want it," Lin Yu said.

"Then take it," the boss said. "If you can."

The boss stood up. He raised the axe. He charged. He was Level 5. He was stronger than Lin Yu. He swung. The axe hit the air. It made a wave. Lin Yu blocked. Silent Edge met the axe. *Clang.* Sparks flew. Lin Yu was pushed back. His feet slid. He dug his heels in. He stopped.

"Strong," the boss said. "But not strong enough."

He swung again. Faster. Harder. Lin Yu dodged. He used Wind Dancer. He moved around the boss. He looked for an opening. He used Sword Sense. He felt the boss's Qi. It was wild. It was uncontrolled. There was a gap in his defense. His left side.

Lin Yu stepped in. He stabbed. Soul Slash. The sword glowed dark. It hit the boss's soul. The boss screamed. He fell. He held his head. He was in pain. It was a mental attack. He could not block it.

Lin Yu swung again. Shadow Slash. It cut the boss's neck. The boss fell. He died.

[Victory Achieved.] The Sword Box said. [Energy Gained: 500. Current Energy: 1140.]

Lin Yu searched the body. He took the key. He went to the back of the temple. He opened the door. He found the artifact. It was a shard. It was metal. It was black. It matched the others. He took it. It flew into his arm. It went to the Box.

[Fragment Acquired. Integration Started. Sword Box Evolution: 30%. New Skill Unlocked: Sword Storm.]

Lin Yu felt the power. It was huge. He was stronger. He was closer. He had three fragments. He needed two more. He looked at the map. The next one was in the Guild HQ. It was dangerous. It was heavily guarded.

"I will go," Lin Yu said. "But not yet."

He needed to grow more. He needed to be Level 5. He needed to be ready. He left the temple. He went back to the inn. He slept. He dreamed of swords. He dreamed of fire. He dreamed of Chen.

The sun rose. The new day began. Lin Yu woke up. He was ready. He had the fragment. He had the power. He had the plan. He walked out of the inn. He walked into the crowd. He was hidden. He was safe. He was hunting.

The Capital was big. It was dangerous. But Lin Yu was not afraid. He was the exile. He was the hunter. He was the judge. And he was just getting started. The Sword Box hummed. It was ready. The sword sang. It was sharp. And Lin Yu was ready.

He walked on. He did not look back. The past was dead. The future was waiting. And Lin Yu would carve it with his sword.
