# Chapter 18: The Return & The Plan

Lin Yu stood outside his door. The wood was old. It was scratched. It looked the same as when he left. But everything had changed. He was different. The sect was different. The air felt heavier. It felt like a storm was coming. He could feel it in his bones. He could feel it in his Qi.

He put his hand on the handle. It was cold. He turned it. It clicked. He pushed the door open. He stepped inside. He closed the door quickly. He locked it. He put the chair under the handle. It was a habit. He did not trust anyone. Not even the walls.

The room was dark. The curtains were drawn. No light came in. It was safe. It was hidden. Lin Yu lit a small candle. The flame was weak. It flickered. It cast shadows on the walls. The shadows danced. They looked like monsters.

"Lin Yu?"

A voice came from the corner. It was soft. It was shaky. Mei Ling stood up. She was sitting on the bed. She was wrapped in a blanket. Her hair was messy. Her eyes were red. She had been crying. She had been waiting.

Lin Yu walked to her. He stopped two feet away. He looked at her. She was alive. She was safe. That was all that mattered.

"I am back," Lin Yu said. His voice was low. It was rough.

Mei Ling dropped the blanket. She ran to him. She hugged him. She held on tight. She did not let go. She was shaking. She was cold. She had been alone for days. She had been scared.

"I thought you died," Mei Ling whispered. Her voice was muffled. She buried her face in his chest. "I heard the alarms. I heard the hunters. I thought they caught you."

"I am hard to catch," Lin Yu said. He put his hands on her back. He patted her. He was not good at comfort. But he tried. "I told you. I will come back."

"You were gone for five days," Mei Ling said. She pulled back. She looked at his face. She touched his cheek. Her hand was warm. "You look different. Stronger."

"I am Level 4," Lin Yu said.

Mei Ling's eyes widened. "Level 4? In five days? That is impossible. It takes years."

"I have my ways," Lin Yu said. He did not explain the Sword Box. He did not explain the Ancient Land. Secrets were safety. The fewer people who knew, the safer she was. "Did anyone come?"

"No," Mei Ling said. "I stayed hidden. I only went out at night. To get water. To get food. No one saw me."

"Good," Lin Yu said. "You did well."

He walked to the table. He sat down. He was tired. The journey was long. The fight was hard. But he could not rest yet. Chen knew he was back. The guards at the gate had seen him. The news would spread. Chen would come for him. He needed to be ready.

"Sit," Lin Yu said.

Mei Ling sat on the other chair. She watched him. She waited. Lin Yu took out the map. It was old. It was yellow. It had red marks on it. He spread it on the table. He put the candle near it. The light showed the details.

"What is this?" Mei Ling asked.

"A map," Lin Yu said. "It shows the Guild bases. It shows the fragments."

"Fragments?" Mei Ling asked.

"Pieces of a sword," Lin Yu said. "A powerful sword. The Guild wants it. Chen wants it. If I get them, I can stop them."

Mei Ling looked at the map. She saw the red marks. They were everywhere. In the sect. In the capital. In the wild. "It is dangerous," she said.

"Everything is dangerous," Lin Yu said. "Staying weak is dangerous. Fighting is dangerous. I choose to fight."

He traced a line on the map. It went from the sect to the capital. "The next fragment is here. In the Imperial City. But I cannot leave yet. Chen is here. If I leave, he will hurt you. He will use you to trap me."

"What do we do?" Mei Ling asked.

"We stay," Lin Yu said. "We fight here. We expose Chen. We make him weak. Then I leave."

"How?" Mei Ling asked. "He is an Elder. He has power. He has friends."

"I have proof," Lin Yu said. He tapped the floorboard. Underneath was the box. The contracts. The letters. "I have everything he did. The sales. The murders. The deals with the Guild."

"Then give it to the Sect Master," Mei Ling said.

"I did," Lin Yu said. "I left the cure. I left a hint. But the Master is weak. He is poisoned. He cannot act fast. Chen controls the sect. If I give the proof now, Chen will destroy it. He will kill the witnesses. He will deny everything."

"Then what?" Mei Ling asked.

"We make him panic," Lin Yu said. "We make him make a mistake. We push him. He will try to kill me. He will do it openly. Then everyone will see. Then the Master will have to act."

"It is risky," Mei Ling said.

"Yes," Lin Yu said. "But it is the only way."

Lin Yu stood up. He walked to the center of the room. He needed to test his power. He needed to know his limits. He had new skills. Sword Domain. Soul Slash. He had not used them in a real fight yet. He needed to feel them.

"Stand back," Lin Yu said.

Mei Ling moved to the corner. She watched. Lin Yu closed his eyes. He circulated his Qi. It was liquid now. It flowed fast. It was heavy. He raised his hand. He activated the Sword Domain.

The air changed. It became heavy. It became still. The candle flame stopped flickering. It stood straight. The dust in the air stopped moving. It froze. A circle appeared around Lin Yu. It was ten meters wide. It was invisible. But Mei Ling felt it. She felt the pressure. It was like being underwater.

"Inside this area," Lin Yu said. "I control the swords. I control the speed."

He drew the Silent Edge. The black sword appeared. It hummed. It vibrated. He swung it. He did not move his body. He just used his will. The sword moved faster than light. It cut the air. It made a sound. *Boom.*

The table leg was cut. It fell. The top slid off. It was clean. No resistance.

"Strong," Mei Ling said. She was amazed.

"Stronger," Lin Yu said. He deactivated the Domain. The air moved again. The candle flickered. The dust fell. He breathed hard. It used energy. He could not keep it up forever. Maybe one minute. Maybe two. But in a fight, one minute was enough.

He sheathed the sword. He sat down. He drank water. He needed to save energy. He needed to be full power for Chen.

"Chen will come tonight," Lin Yu said. "He knows I am back. He will not wait. He will send assassins. Or he will come himself."

"What do I do?" Mei Ling asked.

"Hide," Lin Yu said. "Under the bed. There is a compartment. Go in. Do not come out until I say."

Mei Ling nodded. She did not argue. She knew she would be a burden in a fight. She went to the bed. She lifted the mattress. There was a hidden space. Lin Yu had made it before. She climbed in. She pulled the cover back. She was gone.

Lin Yu blew out the candle. The room was dark. He sat in the chair. He waited. He did not meditate. He kept his senses open. He used Sword Sense. He felt the metal in the walls. He felt the nails. He felt the locks. He felt the people outside.

One hour passed. The sect was quiet. The moon was high. The shadows were long. Lin Yu heard footsteps. They were light. They were skilled. They were not guards. They were assassins.

[Detection: Three Humans. Level 3. Distance: 50 meters. Closing.] The Sword Box said.

Lin Yu did not move. He waited. They stopped outside his door. He felt them through the wood. They were checking for traps. They were checking for life signs. They did not feel him. He had hidden his Qi. He was like a stone.

One of them picked the lock. It clicked. The door opened slowly. They slipped inside. They closed the door. They stood in the dark. They waited for their eyes to adjust.

Lin Yu sat in the corner. He was in the shadow. They did not see him. They thought the room was empty. They walked to the bed. They wanted to check under it. They wanted to make sure he was not hiding.

Big mistake.

Lin Yu stood up. He did not make a sound. He activated the Sword Domain. The air froze. The assassins froze. They felt the pressure. They could not move fast. Their limbs were heavy.

"Who—" one started to say.

Lin Yu swung. Silent Edge. Shadow Slash. The black slash flew. It cut the first assassin. He fell. It cut the second. He fell. The third tried to run. He opened the door. He could not move fast enough. Lin Yu was behind him. He stabbed. The sword went into the back. The assassin died.

It took ten seconds. It was silent. No alarms. No screams.

Lin Yu dragged the bodies to the corner. He searched them. They had black robes. They had Guild tokens. They were not sect members. They were hired killers. Chen hired them. It was deniable. If they were caught, Chen would say they were intruders.

Lin Yu took their weapons. He took their money. He took a pill. It was a poison pill. For suicide. If they were caught, they would bite it. They did not get the chance.

He wiped the blood. He cleaned the floor. He opened the window. He threw the bodies out. They fell into the bushes below. No one saw. It was night. It was dark.

He closed the window. He locked the door. He sat back in the chair. He waited. Chen would send more. Or he would come himself.

[Energy Gained: 150. Current Energy: 550.] The Sword Box said.

"Good," Lin Yu thought. "Free energy."

He waited another hour. The footsteps came again. This time, it was heavier. It was one person. It was strong. Lin Yu felt the Qi. It was Level 5. It was Chen.

Chen stopped outside the door. He did not knock. He did not pick the lock. He kicked the door. *Boom.* The wood broke. The lock shattered. The chair flew across the room.

Chen walked in. He wore gray robes. He held a staff. It was made of iron. It glowed red. He looked angry. He looked tired. He saw the blood on the floor. He saw the open window.

"You killed them," Chen said. His voice was deep. It echoed.

"They tried to kill me," Lin Yu said. He stood up. He held the Silent Edge. "Self-defense."

"They were hired," Chen said. "By someone else. Not me."

"Everyone knows," Lin Yu said. "You hired them. You tried to kill me in the Ancient Land. You failed."

Chen laughed. It was a dry laugh. It was cruel. "You think you are safe? You think because you are Level 4, you can beat me? I am Level 5. I am an Elder. I have resources. I have power. You are nothing."

"I have proof," Lin Yu said.

Chen's eyes narrowed. "Proof? What proof?"

"Contracts," Lin Yu said. "Letters. Records. You sold disciples. You worked with the Guild. You poisoned the Master."

Chen's face changed. The anger disappeared. The fear appeared. He knew. Lin Yu had the vault key. Lin Yu had the box. He thought Lin Yu died in the Ancient Land. But he was back. And he had the evidence.

"Where is it?" Chen asked. His voice was low. It was dangerous.

"Safe," Lin Yu said. "If I die, it goes to the Master. If I disappear, it goes to the Capital. You cannot kill me."

Chen stepped forward. He raised the staff. The red glow got brighter. The heat increased. The wood on the table started to smoke. "You bluff. You do not have it. If you had it, you would have shown it. You would have gone to the Master."

"I am setting a trap," Lin Yu said. "For you."

Chen roared. He charged. He swung the staff. It was heavy. It was fast. It hit the air. It made a wave of fire. Lin Yu activated the Sword Domain. He slowed the fire. He stepped aside. He stabbed. The Silent Edge hit the staff. *Clang.* Sparks flew.

Chen was stronger. His Qi was thicker. Lin Yu was pushed back. His feet slid on the floor. He dug his heels in. He stopped. He poured more Qi into the sword. He used Soul Slash.

The sword glowed dark. It hit the staff. A crack appeared. Chen stumbled. He was surprised. "What skill is that?"

"Death," Lin Yu said.

Chen got angry. He poured all his Qi into the staff. It exploded. Fire went everywhere. The room caught fire. The curtains burned. The bed burned. The heat was intense. Lin Yu coughed. He covered his face. He could not see.

He used Sword Sense. He felt Chen. He was in the corner. He was preparing another attack. Lin Yu ran. He jumped through the window. He landed outside. He rolled. He stood up.

Chen jumped out too. He landed on the grass. He looked at Lin Yu. He looked at the burning room. The alarm bells rang. People woke up. Lights came on. Disciples ran out. Elders flew over.

"Lin Yu attacked me!" Chen shouted. He pointed at Lin Yu. "He is a traitor! He works with the Guild!"

It was a lie. It was bold. But Chen was an Elder. People believed him. The disciples stopped. They looked at Lin Yu. They held their swords. They did not know who to trust.

Lin Yu stood still. He did not run. He did not fight. He looked at the crowd. He looked at the elders. He saw the Sect Master's envoy. He was old. He was strong. He watched.

"Chen lies," Lin Yu said. His voice was loud. It used Qi. Everyone heard it. "He hired assassins. They are in my room. Dead. Check the bodies. They have Guild tokens."

Chen laughed. "Planted! You planted them!"

"Check them," Lin Yu said. "Check their memories. Use the Truth Stone."

The envoy stepped forward. He held a stone. It was white. It glowed. "Bring the bodies," he said.

Chen hesitated. The bodies were in the bushes. They had Guild tokens. If they were checked, Chen would be exposed. But if he refused, he looked guilty.

"No time," Chen said. "He is dangerous. Kill him!"

The guards hesitated. They did not move. They wanted proof. They did not want to kill a disciple without reason.

Lin Yu saw the hesitation. He saw the chance. He could fight. He could kill Chen. But there were too many elders. He would die. He needed to retreat.

"I will leave," Lin Yu said. "But I will be back. And I will bring the truth."

Lin Yu turned. He threw a smoke bomb. The area filled with white smoke. He ran. He used Wind Dancer. He was fast. He jumped over the wall. He disappeared into the night.

Chen shouted. "Catch him! Do not let him escape!"

But Lin Yu was gone. He was in the forest. He was in the dark. He was safe. For now.

He stopped by the river. He breathed hard. His clothes were burned. His face was dirty. He was a fugitive again. But it was okay. He had made his move. Chen was exposed. The elders knew something was wrong. The Sect Master would investigate.

[Quest Updated.] The Sword Box said. [Sect Status: Hostile. Reputation: Traitor (Public). Truth: Hidden.]

"Good," Lin Yu said. "Let them think I am a traitor. It makes me free."

He washed his face. He cleaned his sword. He looked at the map. The next fragment was in the Capital. He could not go back to the sect. It was too hot. He needed to leave. He needed to grow stronger. He needed to find the next fragment.

"Mei Ling," Lin Yu thought. "She was in the room. The room burned."

[Scan Detected. Life Sign: Safe. Location: Underground Compartment. Fire did not reach.]

Lin Yu let out a breath. He had forgotten. The compartment was sealed. It was fireproof. She was safe. She would wait. She would hide. She would survive.

"I will come back," Lin Yu said. "When Chen is dead. When the sect is clean."

He turned away. He walked north. Towards the Capital. Towards the next fragment. Towards the next fight. The sun was rising. The sky was red. It looked like fire. It looked like blood. It looked like war.

Lin Yu walked on. He did not look back. The sect was behind him. The future was in front. And Lin Yu would carve it with his sword. He was the exile. He was the hunter. He was the judge. And he was just getting started.

The Sword Box hummed. It was ready. The sword sang. It was sharp. And Lin Yu was ready. The game had changed. The pieces were moving. The king was in check. And Lin Yu was the queen. He was the power. He was the threat.

He walked into the light. He walked into the danger. He walked into his destiny. The path was long. The road was hard. But he had no choice. He had to walk. He had to fight. He had to win. Because losing meant death. And Lin Yu had already died once. He would not die again.

He touched the talisman Yue gave him. It was smooth. It was safe. He hoped he would not need it. But it was good to have. Allies were rare. Trust was rarer. He would keep both safe.

He walked on. The mist parted. The path was clear. The beasts hid. They smelled his power. They smelled his intent. They knew he was not prey. He was a predator. And the world was his hunting ground.

The wind blew. It carried the scent of snow. It carried the scent of iron. It carried the scent of blood. Lin Yu breathed it in. It tasted like victory. It tasted like revenge.

"Come," Lin Yu said. "I am waiting."

He disappeared into the trees. He was gone. The forest swallowed him. But he would emerge. Stronger. Faster. Deadlier. The story was just beginning. The first chapter was over. The real story was starting now.

Lin Yu walked. He did not look back. He looked forward. He looked at the Capital. He looked at the sky. He looked at the future. And he smiled. It was a small smile. But it was real. He was alive. And that was enough. For now.
