Chapter 21 - Chapter21:The Return to Azure Sect

# Chapter 21: The Return to Azure Sect

The carriage slowed down. The wheels ceased turning. The beasts snorted. They were tired. The journey was over. Lin Yu stood up. He looked forward. The Azure Sect gates were there. They were huge. They were made of white stone. They were familiar. He had left this place as a fugitive. He was returning as a victor. But he did not show it. He kept his face calm. He kept his head down. He was still Lin Feng. He was still a mercenary. For now.

The walls stretched high into the sky. They were covered in formation runes. The runes glowed faintly blue. They protected the sect from attacks. They kept enemies out. They kept secrets in. Guards walked on top of the walls. They wore silver armor. They held crossbows. They watched the road. They watched the carriage. They were alert. They were ready.

Captain Zhao jumped down. He looked at the sect. He smiled. It was a cold smile. He did not know the truth. He did not know Lin Yu was a disciple. He did not know Lin Yu was hunting him. He thought he was delivering goods. He thought he was safe. He was wrong.

"Unload," Zhao said. His voice was sharp.

The mercenaries moved. They took the boxes. They carried them to the Guild Hall. The Guild Hall was near the sect. It was a black building. It looked like a fortress. It looked like a prison. It was separate from the main sect buildings. It was a foreign body inside the sect. Lin Yu helped. He carried a box. It was heavy. He used his Sword Sense. He felt the energy inside. It was not just goods. It was weapons. It was poison. It was evidence. He put the box down. He did not make a sound.

"Good work," Zhao said. He looked at Lin Yu. His eyes were narrow. He was still suspicious. "You get paid tomorrow. Go to the inn. Wait."

"I will wait," Lin Yu said. His voice was rough. He changed his tone. He sounded like a mercenary. He sounded like a stranger.

Zhao nodded. He turned away. He walked into the Guild Hall. The doors closed. The guards stood outside. They held halberds. They watched the street. They did not look at Lin Yu. He was just a worker. He was invisible.

Lin Yu walked away. He did not go to the inn. He went to the shadows. He waited until the street was empty. Then he moved. He used the Wind Dancer skill. He was fast. He was like a ghost. He climbed the wall. He entered the sect grounds. He was home.

The air was different inside. It was cleaner. It was filled with Qi. It was familiar. He breathed it in. He felt strong. He walked through the paths. He avoided the guards. He knew where they stood. He knew when they turned. He reached the Elder Hall. It was large. It was made of dark wood. The lights were on. People were inside. They were shouting.

Lin Yu listened. He stood under the window. He used his Sword Sense. He felt the energy inside. He felt the Sect Master. He felt Elder Chen. He felt the guards. He felt the evidence box he had delivered to the Master earlier. The Master was awake. The Master was angry.

"Chen is finished," Lin Yu thought.

[Probability: 90%.] The Sword Box voice spoke. It was low. It was calm. [The Master has the evidence. The Guild is exposed. Chen has no allies left.]

"Good," Lin Yu thought. "But I must be sure."

Lin Yu moved away. He did not wait for the verdict. He knew the outcome. He walked to the Inner Sect quarters. It was higher up the mountain. The paths were steep. The trees were older. The air was thinner. He reached his new room. It was number 21. It was a small house. It had a courtyard. It had a private garden. He opened the door. He walked in.

The room was clean. There was a bed. It was made of wood. It had a soft mattress. There was a table. There were two chairs. There was a window. It looked out at the mountains. There was a washing basin. There was a closet. It was empty. He could put his clothes there. It was better than the servant quarters. It was better than the inn. It was safe.

He closed the door. He locked it. He put a chair under the handle. It was a habit. He did not trust anyone. He walked to the bed. He sat down. He let out a long breath. He was alone. Finally. He took off his cloak. He took off the illusion. He looked like Lin Yu again. He looked tired. But he was alive.

[Victory Achieved.] The Sword Box voice spoke. It was clear in his mind. [Arc 1 Complete. Sect Survival. Energy Gained: 500. Current Energy: 1640. Status Updated: Inner Sect Disciple.]

Lin Yu nodded. He did not answer out loud. He kept walking. He talked in his mind.

"Five hundred energy," Lin Yu thought. "It is a lot."

[Yes. Completing a major arc gives more energy. Exposing corruption gives more energy. You did well.]

"Chen used poison," Lin Yu thought. "The Master saw it. He stopped it."

[The sect is healing. Strength matters more than rules. But rules protect the weak. You restored the balance.]

Lin Yu nodded slightly. He agreed. He could not rely on elders. He could not rely on rules. He could only rely on himself. And the Sword Box. But now, the sect was safer. Mei Ling was safer.

[Reward Unlocked.] The Sword Box said. [Skill Point Gained. Upgrade Available. New Sword Slot Available.]

Lin Yu's eyes widened. He stood up. He walked to the center of the room. He closed his eyes. He circulated his Qi. He pushed it to his dantian. It was full. It was like a cup filled with water. It was ready to overflow.

"Unlock the fourth sword," Lin Yu said. He whispered.

[Confirmed. Energy Deducted: 500. Current Energy: 1140.]

Lin Yu felt a flow of information. It went into his arm. Into the sword. He understood the skill better. He knew how to cut deeper. He knew how to cut faster. The box opened. A wind blew inside the room. It was cold. It was sharp. A sword appeared. It was blue. It was light. It hummed like thunder.

[Fourth Sword Unlocked: Thunder Strike.]

[Type: Area of Effect.]

[Personality: Loud, Aggressive.]

[Skill: Chain Lightning.]

Lin Yu held the sword. It felt heavy. It felt like a storm. He swung it. There was a sound. It cracked like thunder. It was faster than the Silent Edge. It was stronger than the Flame Fang. It was dangerous.

"Chain Lightning," Lin Yu said. He tested it. He poured Qi into his legs. He moved. He was fast. He was like a storm. He crossed the room in a second. He stopped. He did not feel tired.

[Good.] The Sword Box said. [You are balanced now. Silent Edge for stealth. Flame Fang for power. Wind Dancer for speed. Thunder Strike for crowds.]

Lin Yu nodded. He sheathed the sword. It disappeared into his arm. He walked to the window. He looked outside. He could see the Outer Sect quarters in the distance. They were small. They were gray. He used to live there. Now he was here. It was a big change. But he knew it was dangerous. Chen was humiliated. But Chen's uncle was still out there. The Guild was still watching.

He heard a knock on the door.

Lin Yu froze. He did not move. He listened. Who was it? He did not tell anyone where he was. The guards knew. But they would not knock. They would announce.

"Who is it?" Lin Yu asked. His voice was low.

"It is me," a voice said. It was soft. It was familiar.

Lin Yu relaxed slightly. He knew that voice. He walked to the door. He moved the chair. He opened the door.

Mei Ling stood there. She wore her green servant robes. She held a basket. She looked around. She looked worried.

"You should not be here," Lin Yu said. He stepped back. He let her in. He closed the door quickly. He locked it. He put the chair back.

"I know," Mei Ling said. She put the basket on the table. She took off her hood. Her hair was messy. She was out of breath. "But I had to come."

"The guards saw you?" Lin Yu asked.

"I gave them a bun," Mei Ling said. She smiled weakly. "They let me pass. For now. If an Elder sees me, I will be punished."

Lin Yu frowned. He walked to the table. He looked at the basket. It had food. Meat. Rice. Fruit. It was better than servant food.

"You brought this?" Lin Yu asked.

"Yes," Mei Ling said. "You won. You are Inner Sect now. You need energy. You cannot eat servant food anymore. It is too low quality."

Lin Yu looked at her. He felt something in his chest. It was warm. In his past life, no one cared about his food. No one cared about his health. He died alone. Now, someone risked punishment to bring him meat.

"Thank you," Lin Yu said. He sat down. He picked up a piece of meat. He ate it. It was cooked well. It was tasty.

"Do not thank me," Mei Ling said. She sat on the other chair. She leaned forward. She lowered her voice. "Lin Yu, listen to me. Chen is angry."

"I know," Lin Yu said. He chewed slowly. "He yielded. He is humiliated."

"Not just Chen," Mei Ling said. "His uncle. Elder Chen. I heard him talking. In the kitchen. He was on a mission. He came back early. He was angry."

"What did he say?" Lin Yu asked. He put the meat down. He looked at her. His eyes were sharp.

"He said... he said the sect is changing," Mei Ling said. She looked at her hands. She played with her apron. "He said next time, there will be no rules. Next time, it will be in the wild. Where no one sees."

Lin Yu nodded. He expected this. The Elder warned him. *Power brings enemies.* Mei Ling confirmed it.

"Did he say when?" Lin Yu asked.

"Soon," Mei Ling said. "Maybe this week. Maybe this month. He is planning a mission. He wants you to join. He says it is for Inner Sect. But it is a trap."

Lin Yu thought. He tapped the table. He needed to be smart. He could not refuse a mission. It was against sect rules. But he could not walk into a trap.

"Did he say what mission?" Lin Yu asked.

"Beast Hunt," Mei Ling said. "In the Black Forest. It is dangerous. Many disciples die there."

Lin Yu remembered the Sword Box warning. [Chen will use poison. Or hidden weapons. Or allies.] The Black Forest was perfect for accidents. Beasts could kill you. Or friends could stab you in the back.

"I will go," Lin Yu said. His voice was calm.

Mei Ling looked up. Her eyes were wide. "You will go? It is death."

"If I do not go, they will punish me," Lin Yu said. "If I go, I have a chance. I choose the chance."

Mei Ling bit her lip. She wanted to argue. But she knew he was right. He was a disciple now. He had duties. He could not hide forever.

"Then take this," Mei Ling said. She reached into her sleeve. She took out a small bottle. It was white. It had no label.

"What is it?" Lin Yu asked. He took the bottle. It was warm.

"Antidote," Mei Ling said. "My grandmother made it. Before she died. It works on many poisons. Not all. But most."

Lin Yu looked at the bottle. It was precious. Servants did not have antidotes. It must have cost her a lot. Or it was her only protection.

"I cannot take this," Lin Yu said. He tried to give it back. "You need it."

"I have none," Mei Ling said. She pushed his hand back. "I do not go into the wild. You do. You need it more. Please. For me."

Lin Yu looked at her. He saw the worry in her eyes. He saw the care. He put the bottle in his bag. He would not argue. He would use it. And he would protect her.

"Okay," Lin Yu said. "I will take it. I will come back."

"You better," Mei Ling said. She stood up. She walked to the door. She stopped. She looked at him. "Lin Yu. Do not trust anyone. Not even the Elders."

"I know," Lin Yu said.

Mei Ling opened the door. She looked outside. The path was clear. She stepped out. She put her hood up. She walked away fast. She did not look back.

Lin Yu closed the door. He locked it. He stood there for a minute. He held the bag. He felt the bottle inside. He felt the token inside. He felt the Sword Box inside his chest.

He walked to the bed. He lay down. He looked at the ceiling. The wood was clean. No cracks. No dust. It was a good room. He might die soon. But for now, it was his.

"Box," Lin Yu said. "Can you analyze the antidote?"

[Yes. Scan initiated.]

A blue light scanned the bottle in his bag.

[Analysis Complete. Basic Antidote. Effectiveness: 70%. Works on Level 2 Poisons. Weak against Level 3.]

"Chen used Level 3," Lin Yu said. "In the arena."

[Yes. This antidote might not save you next time. You need stronger protection.]

"How?" Lin Yu asked.

[Upgrade your Qi. Upgrade your swords. Or buy better pills. You have 1140 Energy. You can buy a Skill Upgrade. Or save for a new sword.]

Lin Yu thought. A new sword cost 500 Energy. He had enough. He needed 200 more. A skill upgrade cost 100 Energy. He could afford that.

"Upgrade Thunder Strike," Lin Yu said. "To Level 2."

[Confirmed. Energy Deducted: 100. Current Energy: 1040.]

Lin Yu felt a flow of information. It went into his arm. Into the sword. He understood the skill better. He knew how to move faster. He knew how to dodge better. The speed increased. Before, it was ten feet per second. Now, it was fifteen feet.

"Good," Lin Yu said. He sat up. He stretched his arm. He felt the power. It was ready.

He stood up. He walked to the window. He looked outside. The sun was setting. The sky was purple. The shadows were long. He needed to cultivate. He needed to stabilize his new power. He needed to be ready for the Black Forest.

He sat on the bed. He started to meditate. He closed his eyes. He used the Qi Breathing Method. He breathed in. He breathed out. He felt the energy in the air. It was thicker in the Inner Sect. There were formation arrays. They gathered Qi.

He pulled the Qi into his body. It flowed through his veins. It went to his dantian. It stored there. His level was Level 4. He was close to Level 5. He pushed harder. He felt a barrier. It was hard. It was like a wall. He hit it with his Qi. It did not break. He hit it again. It cracked. He needed more time. Maybe a pill. Maybe a fight.

He stopped meditating. He opened his eyes. It was evening. The room was dark. He lit a candle. The flame was small. It flickered.

He took out the Silent Edge. He wiped it with a cloth. He checked the edge. It was sharp. It was clean. He put it away. He lay on the bed. He put his hands on his stomach. He thought about the future.

He was an Inner Sect Disciple. He had enemies. He had a goal. He needed to survive the mission. He needed to kill Chen's plan. He needed to grow stronger. He needed to find the Beast Tamers. The ones who killed him in his past life.

He remembered the pain. The blade in his chest. The blood. The cold. He would not feel that again. He promised himself.

He closed his eyes. He slept. He did not dream. He rested deeply.

In the morning, the bell rang. It was loud. It echoed across the sect. It was the morning call. All disciples must gather.

Lin Yu woke up. He washed his face. He put on his new robes. They were blue. They were inner sect robes. They felt smooth. He put on his shoes. He tied them tight. He checked his bag. Token. Antidote. Sword. Pills. Everything was there.

He opened the door. He walked out. The air was cold. The sun was rising. Other disciples were walking too. They looked at him. Some nodded. Some ignored him. Some whispered.

"He is the servant," one said.

"He beat Chen," another said.

"He will die soon," a third said.

Lin Yu heard them. He did not care. He walked to the gathering square. The Elder was there. He stood on a platform. He looked at the disciples. There were fifty of them. Lin Yu stood at the back. He watched.

"Listen," the Elder said. "There is a mission. Beast Hunt. Black Forest. We need cores. Ten cores each. You have three days."

Lin Yu's heart did not jump. He expected it. Mei Ling was right. The mission was real. The trap was set.

"Who leads?" a disciple asked.

"Senior Brother Chen," the Elder said.

Chen stepped forward. He wore armor. He looked healed. His wrist was not broken. He must have used good medicine. He looked at Lin Yu. He smiled. It was a cold smile.

"Join my team," Chen said. He looked at Lin Yu. "Lin Yu. You are new. You need guidance."

It was not a request. It was an order. And it was a trap. Lin Yu would be alone with Chen and his friends. In the forest. No witnesses.

Lin Yu stepped forward. He stood straight. He looked at Chen. He did not show fear.

"Okay," Lin Yu said. "I will join."

The Elder nodded. "Good. Dismissed. Prepare. Leave in one hour."

The disciples scattered. Chen walked to Lin Yu. He stopped close. Too close.

"Bring your sword," Chen said. "You will need it."

"I always do," Lin Yu said.

Chen laughed. He walked away. He joined his friends. They looked at Lin Yu. They looked like wolves. They smelled blood.

Lin Yu turned away. He walked to the gate. He had one hour. He needed to buy supplies. He needed to prepare. He needed to talk to the Sword Box.

[Trap Confirmed,] the Box said. [Survival Probability: 40%.]

"Raise it," Lin Yu said.

[How?]

"We prepare," Lin Yu said. "We buy traps. We buy pills. We plan."

[Agreed. Let us go.]

Lin Yu walked faster. The sun was higher. The clock was ticking. The Black Forest waited. Death waited. But Lin Yu was ready. He had the Silent Edge. He had the Sword Box. He had the antidote. And he had a promise to keep.

He would come back. He would not die. Not today. Not ever. He walked into the light. He walked into the danger. He walked into his destiny. The path was long. The road was hard. But he had no choice. He had to walk. He had to fight. He had to win. Because losing meant death. And Lin Yu had already died once. He would not die again. He touched the talisman Mei Ling gave him. It was smooth. It was safe. He hoped he would not need it. But it was good to have. Allies were rare. Trust was rarer. He would keep both safe.

He walked on. The mist parted. The path was clear. The beasts hid. They smelled his power. They smelled his intent. They knew he was not prey. He was a predator. And the world was his hunting ground. The wind blew. It carried the scent of snow. It carried the scent of iron. It carried the scent of blood. Lin Yu breathed it in. It tasted like victory. It tasted like revenge.

"Come," Lin Yu said. "I am waiting."

He disappeared into the trees. He was gone. The forest swallowed him. But he would emerge. Stronger. Faster. Deadlier. The story was just beginning. The first chapter was over. The real story was starting now. Lin Yu walked. He did not look back. He looked forward. He looked at the Capital. He looked at the sky. He looked at the future. And he smiled. It was a small smile. But it was real. He was alive. And that was enough. For now.
