Chapter 36 - chapter 36: losing interest

Days passed and so did weeks, the supposed Hailey had forgiven Hardin according to what she told him and of course Hardin was delighted to hear that.

He has seen a few changes in her attitude and likes but he has ignored it saying she was only stressed about the issue with Lucy.

Speaking of Lucy she had eerily been quiet lately, she hadn't come around often as Hardin had expected and he was surprised by that fact, had she finally realized that it would never work between them.

He had spent so much effort in making Hailey forgive him and he didn't want Lucy ruining it all over again so he asked Fedrick to find out her whereabouts and what she was up to.

Fedrick said she was in Paris living an average life, Hardin found that absurd because Lucy wanted a lavish lifestyle, she has always been the type to want those types of things which made him sure she was hiding something but he didn't dig deeper.

As long as she wasn't being a pain in his and Hailey's relationship she could do whatever she wanted for all he cares.

He had bought Hailey a lot of gifts, he even went as far as getting her a yatch just for forgiveness and he was glad when he got it.

Hailey has abruptly told him she wanted to pursue a modelling career and he was shocked, he didn't want her to step into the modelling world cause with that she was reminding him more and more of Lucy and he didn't want that at all.

She was feeling more like Lucy each passing day and he was beginning to hate himself for it, he had claimed Lucy didn't matter with her around but why does he see Lucy more often no matter how much he tried to push the thoughts aside.

"Are you coming?" Hailey's voice dragged Hardin from his thoughts and he looked up at her in a tired expression.

"I'm coming" he managed out and stood up from his office chair. He had promised to attend an event with her for her upcoming modelling career, the comments online about how she looked like the late Lucy was springing up faster than he expected.

This was exactly what he was avoiding, the never ending attention, he got his own fair share of attention as a billionaire but a model's attention was crazy.

"I'm so excited, my first real event" Hailey squealed happily inside the car and Hardin only nodded.

Everything was tiring to him, he loved Hailey that's for sure but he felt the distance between them growing everyday, not from her but from him.

"I don't want to go anymore" Hardin dropped and Hailey blinked.

"What's wrong?" She asked concern laced in her voice.

"I'm sick and I need to rest," Hardin replied and Hailey nodded.

"Should we go home?" Hailey asked in worry.

"No, you can go to your event, I would be fine" Hardin replied.

"Are you sure?" She asked and he nodded, the car parked at the side of the road and Hailey gave Hardin a peck on the lips before he got down from the car and the driver drove off.

The old Hailey would have followed him back no matter what, she really had changed or was he thinking too much?.

Hardin let out heavy breaths as he called Fedrick to get him a car, after that he sent his location to Fedrick.

The car came a few minutes later, Hardin got inside and the car hit the road.

When Hardin got to his place he was shocked to find Faye and Mark already inside, sitting on his couch.

He shouldn't have told them the passcode to his house cause they have been coming in as they please, completely invading his privacy.

"You didn't come back with "her"?" Faye asked and Hardin frowned.

"Who is this "her" you speak of?" Hardin asked, completely ignoring her tone.

"Your wife," Mark added. "She isn't your friend anymore?" Hardin asked and Faye frowned.

"Hailey is my friend, not that person you're currently married to" Faye said Sternly and Hardin sighed walking into the living room fully.

Faye and Hailey's relationship has been strained these past few weeks, Hailey has been claiming to be too busy to talk or see Faye no matter Faye's efforts and she was completely tired of all the ignoring attitude.

"What's wrong with your wife?" Mark said and Hardin let out another sigh.

"I don't know, it's like she changed, I honestly didn't want to talk about it cause I was scared she reminded me too much of Lucy which I know would hurt her if I brought up the topic" Hardin said.

"But I am really tired, everything is tiring as fuçk, there's this long line between us that refused to move, I am thinking of having a divorce" Hardin said which surprised Mark and Faye.

It's only been a few weeks and he had thought of a divorce? So quickly? Was that how much effect her change was having on him?

"Hardin, divorce isn't the answer, we need to find out why she was like that" Faye said worriedly.

"My guts are telling me that isn't Hailey, it might be Lucy" Faye said seriously and Hardin gave her the "Are you okay" look.

"We can't rule out any possibility" Faye added.

"I already had Fedrick check in on Lucy, she's in Paris, it's not Lucy" Hardin replied.

"There has to be some kind of explanation" Mark said and Faye nodded.

"Maybe she didn't change, maybe it's just her and we didn't see it, maybe the appearance of Lucy changed her or maybe it's us who sees the changes cause we've met Lucy, I don't know anymore" Hardin said tiredly.

"There are a lot of maybes and it's annoying the fuçk out of me" Hardin added.

"Don't worry too much" Mark rested his hands on Hardin's shoulders.

"I'm going to make sure if it's truly Hailey cause I am finding it hard to believe" Faye said and Hardin sighed, Faye always had a way.

"We better leave before your "wife" comes back" Faye added with emphasis cause she doesn't want to talk to Hailey.

"Please draft divorce papers, again" Hardin said to Mark. "You're really serious," Mark replied and Hardin nodded.
