Since Euphoria had admitted her feelings, Wayne had been acting like he was on a permanent adrenaline high. He took every opportunity to playfully harass her, though his reward was usually a light thrashing. For Euphoria, this had become a hilarious new highlight of her daily life.
One afternoon, Wayne slipped inside and shut the door with unusual secrecy. He pulled Euphoria aside, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Look what I found today!" He opened his palm to reveal a golden, semi-transparent object—it had a metallic sheen but felt organic, shaped like a flickering flame.
"This is a Flame Spirit," he whispered. "They are incredibly rare, created by fire beasts only once every hundred years during their rebirth in the flames. Eating one is said to grant incredible power and extend one's life significantly."
