Chapter 8 - Midnight Confessions

The clock struck two, and Ethan lay awake, whispering to the empty room. "I'm tired of failing… I just want to be seen." His voice echoed against bare walls, mingling with the shadows that had become his companions.

He remembered Lila's laughter, the hope in her eyes when she first believed in him. That memory was now a sharp sting, a reminder of love abandoned for his art. Every rejection he endured felt heavier at night. Every unsent letter to her carried his longing, his apology for not being enough—not for her, not for the world.

Writing was a double-edged sword. It gave him life but stole everything else. Hunger, loneliness, love, comfort—he had abandoned all to craft stories that might one day exist outside his mind. And yet, the pen refused to rest. He scribbled in darkness, tears smearing ink, knowing that even these words would vanish like ghosts. Midnight became a ritual of grief and confession, a testament to a life lived in shadows, tethered to a dream that might never return.
