Chapter 11 - Close and dangerous

Keifer's POV

The city lights had faded behind them as the car took them back to the resort. The party and meeting were over, but his thoughts didn't leave her for a second.

Wine-red dress… flawless. Her hair… perfect. And that nervous way she followed me… intoxicating.

He stole glances at her across the seat. Jay was quietly reviewing notes, unaware of the heat radiating from him. But he didn't need words. He could feel the tension humming between them, the unspoken pull.

When she reached for her bag, he let his hand brush hers—not enough to touch fully, just enough to make her flinch.

She notices. Good.

Jay's POV

Jay's heart jumped at the contact. She looked up, cheeks heating, trying to ignore the way his hand lingered near hers.

"Sir…?" she murmured, voice slightly uncertain.

Keifer smirked, that perfectly sharp smirk that made her knees feel weak. "Relax, Jay. You've been perfect today. Impressive, actually."

Her chest tightened. "I… thank you, sir." She tried to focus on her notes again, but the way he leaned slightly closer, that faint scent of him, made it impossible.

Keifer's Flirtation

As the car turned a corner, he lowered his voice, almost a murmur: "You know… that dress… it's distracting. I couldn't take my eyes off you tonight."

Jay froze. Did he just say that? Her cheeks burned. She wanted to protest, tell him it was inappropriate, but the words lodged in her throat.

He let a small, teasing smile tug at his lips. "Careful. Looking that good in front of me… you might get into trouble."

Her heart raced, and for the first time, she realized just how close they were sitting. She shifted slightly, trying to keep her composure.

Getting Closer

The ride back was silent, but the air was charged. Keifer's glances were deliberate, lingering, making her pulse spike every time their eyes met. He leaned just a little closer when speaking, his voice low, teasing, intimate.

Why does being this close feel dangerous? Jay thought, trying to steady her heartbeat.

Keifer noticed her shifting, the flush on her cheeks, and smirked internally. She's mine to notice… and I like how flustered she gets. I want her closer.

By the time they reached the resort, the tension had stretched taut between them—an invisible thread pulling them together, teasing, daring, but still unbroken.
