Chapter 7 - The Elevator Ride

Jay's POV

Jay had barely finished her coffee when the elevator dinged. She stepped in and pressed her floor. Relief. A few quiet moments alone before the next wave of work.

Then the doors slid open on the same floor, and…

Keifer Watson.

Her stomach did a complete flip. Of course. Of course he'd be here.

"Good evening, sir," she murmured, trying not to sound as nervous as she felt.

"Evening," he said, stepping in. The doors closed. And suddenly, they were alone in the small, glass elevator.

Her heart raced. She tried to focus on the floor numbers, on the faint hum of the elevator. But the sight of him, standing so close… the subtle smell of his cologne… it was overwhelming.

Why is my heart racing? He's just my boss. Just my boss…

Her hands instinctively gripped the strap of her bag. She couldn't stop noticing him—how the light hit his jawline, the way his eyes seemed sharper when he glanced at her.

Stop. Stop thinking this. Focus on the floor numbers. Don't… don't…

But her thoughts betrayed her. She couldn't stop. She was aware of every inch of space between them.

Keifer's POV

Keifer noticed her gripping the bag so tightly, the slight tremor in her hands. It made him pause. Interesting…

He stayed quiet, watching her with sharp eyes, noticing things he hadn't before. The way her lips pressed together, the small flare of her nostrils when she exhaled, the rapid blink of her lashes.

She's… nervous. Flustered. Careful. And yet… captivated by me.

A tiny part of him wanted to say something, anything, to acknowledge it. But he didn't. He was cold, composed… untouchable. That was his nature.

Yet he couldn't stop noticing her. Every nervous gesture, every small glance, drew him in more than he liked to admit.

She's just my secretary. Nothing more. That's all she should be. But… why is that so hard to remember?

The elevator stopped. Top floor. They stepped out, still silent. She hurried to her desk, and he returned to his office—but both knew, without saying a word, that the brief ride had left something unspoken between them.

Something dangerous.
