Milena POV
Still clutching the books to my chest like my life depended on them, I walked down the hallway completely lost.
This house was too big. Too wide. Too confusing. Every corner looked the same.
I kept looking around, hoping to find something familiar, when I bumped straight into someone.
"I—I'm sorry.." I tried to apologize, but before I could finish, a sharp pain exploded across my cheek.
She slapped me.
"How dare you bump into me?" she snapped, her eyes filled with disgust. She looked at me like I was dirt under her shoes. "Who do you think you are?"
I froze, shock racing down my spine.
Her eyes narrowed. "So, you're the Alpha's little human mate, right?"
I stared at her like a dumped, confused idiot. I didn't even know how to respond.
She raised her hand again.
I braced myself for another slap But it never landed.
I opened my eyes and saw him.
The man called Alpha Mason… my so-called mate… was holding her wrist in a tight grip.
"Don't you ever raise your hand on her again," he growled, his voice so dark and intimidating it made both of us tremble.
"Go to the dungeon and give yourself a punishment," he ordered coldly. "Because if I handle it, you'd be dead by now."
Her eyes widened in fear.
"Yes, Alpha," she whispered before scrambling away like a scared rat.
Mason turned to me, his gaze sharp.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in your room?"
"I… no… I went to the library to get some novels," I stuttered. "I missed my way."
"Follow me," he said simply.
He walked ahead, and I hurried behind him.
He didn't speak.
Just silent, powerful, intimidating energy filling the hallway.
When we reached my room, he stopped at the door.
"I'll send Shelda to show you around the pack," he said. "So you won't get lost again."
And without waiting for my reply, he turned and walked away.
I let out a shaky breath and went straight to the bed.
I pulled out the map and spread it in front of me…
But the heavy book caught my attention again.
Curiosity tugged at me.
So I opened it.
And I began to read.
