Chapter 19 - chapter 19

MASON'S POV

I entered my office and shut the door behind me. The room was quiet too quiet. My thoughts were loud, messy, refusing to settle every time I remembered Milena's face.

I exhaled sharply and mind-linked Dennis.

"Come to my office. And bring Selena with you."

It didn't take long before the door opened. Dennis walked in first, Selena behind him, her healer's robes brushing the floor like she owned the spirit world itself.

I didn't bother with greetings.

"Selena," I said, staring straight at her, "did you consult your Moon Goddess?"

She nodded. "Yes, Alpha. I did."

"And?" My voice came out harsher than intended.

"She said Milena is your fated mate… and your chosen Luna."

I felt my jaw clench. My wolf, Mars, perked up but I kept him quiet.

"She is human, Selena," I snapped. "Weak. She knows nothing about our world. How can she be Luna of a kingdom like mine?"

"She can be trained," Selena replied calmly. "Strength isn't born in a day. Even you learned. She can become a fighter. A leader. In time."

I sighed deeply, running a hand through my hair.

"Why would your Moon Goddess bless me with a human mate?" My voice dropped, darker. "Was taking my mother not enough? Now she's punishing me again, right?"

Selena lowered her gaze. "Alpha… the Moon Goddess does nothing without reason."

"Save it." I waved my hand dismissively. "Get going. I'm sure you have other people to attend to."

Selena bowed lightly and left the office.

I turned to Dennis.

"Prepare my mate for tomorrow. She's coming to the training grounds."

Dennis nodded. "Understood, Alpha."

Before he could leave, I added, "And Dennis… update me on the human hunters."

He stiffened. "They're getting closer, Alpha. We caught their scent last night near the west border. They're tracking something or someone."

My eye twitched.

I knew exactly who.

"Double the patrols," I ordered sharply. "If hunters step into my territory, eliminate them. No warnings."

"Yes, Alpha."

"And the paperwork from the council?" I asked.

"It's on your desk. They need your approval for the new trading route and the reinforcement around the northern wall."

"Good. Leave it."

He bowed and exited the office, leaving me alone with the weight of my responsibilities… and the chaos of having a human mate I didn't understand.

Mars finally growled inside me.

She's ours. Train her. Protect her. Accept her.

I ignored him.

For now.

But tomorrow…

Tomorrow she would step into our world fully.

Whether she was ready or not.
