Melina POV
The room was silent except for the soft rustling of pages as I sat cross-legged on the bed with the huge, ancient book resting on my thighs.
It felt... heavy. Not just physically there was something powerful about it, something that made my heart beat faster.
I opened the book, and the old pages released a faint dusty smell.
The handwriting was neat, elegant, almost royal.
At the top of the first chapter was written:
"THE HISTORY OF WEREWOLVES."
I swallowed hard.
Dennis said they were werewolves.
He said Mason was an Alpha the king.
He said I was a mate.
I didn't believe him then.
But after the dream or vision? of a man turning into a wolf…
After everything that happened…
Maybe it wasn't impossible anymore.
I took a deep breath and began to read.
Chapter One: The Origin of Wolves
"Werewolves were created by the Moon Goddess, Selene.
She gave them strength, speed, heightened senses, and a sacred bond
the Mate Bond."
My eyes widened.
The Mate Bond
According to the book, mates were soul partners chosen by the Moon Goddess herself.
Each wolf had only one true mate in a lifetime.
Mates felt a pull a deep attraction, a connection stronger than blood.
I touched my chest unconsciously.
That strange feeling I felt the first time I saw Mason…
Was that what this book was talking about?
I kept reading.
"A mate brings balance to a wolf.
An Alpha's mate is his Luna queen of the pack.
She carries his strength, calms his beast, and rules beside him."
My mouth fell open.
Queen?
Luna?
Me?
I burst out laughing.
It sounded ridiculous.
I, Milena—waitress, stripper, adopted nobody
A queen?
What a joke.
Chapter Two: Human Mates
I flipped the page and froze.
The title almost made my heart stop.
"HUMAN MATES."
I swallowed hard and read faster.
"Human mates are rare.
One in a thousand wolves may be destined for a human partner.
When such a bond exists, the human is often marked by fate.
Humans who are mates usually show symptoms
glowing skin, heightened senses, or dreams of their wolf."
My hand flew to my stomach.
The glow.
Dennis saw it.
I saw it.
My stomach tightened.
The air felt too thin.
"A human mate's presence calms the wolf within the Alpha.
But danger follows them. Humans are fragile.
Packs may reject them.
Enemies may target them."
I felt cold suddenly.
So cold.
Was that why Jessica slapped me?
Because humans weren't accepted?
Was that why Mason looked so furious all the time?
Because I was the wrong mate?
My chest ached a little.
Chapter Three: The Alpha
The page described how powerful an Alpha wasstronger than any wolf, feared by many, obeyed by all.
Then the line that made my heart stop:
"An Alpha becomes unstable without his mate."
I blinked.
Unstable?
So… Mason needed me?
Before I could process it, a deeper line followed:
"If the mate is harmed… the Alpha's wolf becomes uncontrollable."
My mind flashed back to the way he grabbed Jessica's wrist.
The anger in his voice.
The warning in his eyes.
Everything suddenly made sense.
I leaned back on the bed, the book still open in my hands, my heart beating too loudly.
This wasn't just some fantasy story.
This was my life now.
Human mate.
To a wolf.
To an Alpha.
And according to this book…
I was supposed to be his Luna.
Queen of the pack.
I shut the book slowly, my hands trembling.
What the hell had I gotten myself into?
