CHAPTER 39: SYNDICATE LAIR
Julian was getting impatient. He put on his shirt and stood up from the couch.
"Ellie, what's up? Is it the delivery guy?" Julian called out from inside the room.
There was no response.
Julian frowned immediately.
"Elena?" he called again, louder this time.
Still nothing.
A strange feeling crept into his chest. He quickly walked toward the door and saw Elena standing there frozen with a box in her hand, but there was nobody there with her.
"What's that?" he asked, looking puzzled.
Elena didn't answer. Her face had gone pale, and her hands were trembling slightly around the box.
"Ellie…" Julian's brows furrowed deeply. "Talk to me. What happened?"
There was still no response from her.
Julian walked closer to her carefully and touched her gently on the shoulder.
Elena turned immediately and hugged him tightly.
"Hey… hey…" Julian wrapped his arms around her quickly. "It's okay. I'm here." He rubbed her back gently. "Talk to me."
