Deebt rose from his seat and headed for the classroom door under everyone's gaze.
Deebt hadn't even left the classroom yet, and whispers had already begun among the students.
"Is he really going to change his major?"
"But it's too late for that, unless the principal agrees."
"His talent would really go to waste."
Many looked at Deebt with envy, some were happy, while others didn't even care.
Deebt paid no attention to the students' stares, he kept moving as if it were perfectly normal.
Deebt left the classroom and headed for the principal's office, he had some expectations about what they would discuss.
If Deebt was right, his major had been changed thanks to the principal, who had approved it.
…
Deebt arrived at the principal's office and knocked lightly.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Come in." The principal's voice came from behind the door, inviting Deebt to enter.
Deebt entered quietly, the principal gestured for him to sit down.
"Deebt, do you know why I called you here?" The principal's voice was deep, yet gentle at the same time.
"Is it about changing my major?" Deebt asked confidently, as if he were certain.
"Yes, you've successfully changed your major and will be taking the entrance exam for the Sunrise Academy. You know its exam is different from the Sunset Academy's."
"Yes, I know that. I've looked into it, but I'm certain of my choice." Deebt said calmly.
"Why did you choose it?"
"Well, my brother and I recently discussed fighting. My view was that fighting is about survival, and winning a fight means moving on to the next one… I simply want to live by that mindset. It will contribute greatly to my growth, even though I'm a novice, this will be better for me." Deebt explained honestly why he chose it, difficulty meant growth.
The greater the challenges, the greater a person could become.
Deebt didn't hide anything from the principal, for one reason... He felt he needed to be honest with him.
'Deebt and Jazz, both are highly talented brothers, but they're different as people.' The principal thought for a moment.
"Deebt, well done. That's very good of you, do you know what the most important thing in a person's life is?" the principal asked, looking expectantly at Deebt for his answer.
"Isn't that obvious? It's ourselves." Deebt's answer was decisive, there was no trace of hesitation in his voice or gaze.
"That's right. Most people I ask lie and say that their families are important, money is important, winning is important, pride is important, time is important… but it's rare for them to say that they themselves are what's important… That's very difficult. It's hard to be yourself, but it's valuable to be yourself." The principal spoke strangely, his tone was heavy, as if he were speaking of a lifetime of experiences.
"You're right, principal. It's hard to be yourself… Maybe that's the purpose of life itself." Deebt muttered quietly, he had been lost in the principal's words and spoke what was on his mind.
'The purpose of life itself? What a boy...' The principal pondered Deebt's words, even though Deebt spoke softly and faintly, the principal's senses were keen enough to hear him.
"Deebt, forge ahead on the path you've chosen. You may not realize it, but you're already a giant step ahead of many people." The principal's words were firm and unwavering.
Deebt looked at him in surprise, the principal's words penetrated deep into his heart, as if engraved there.
'The path I've chosen… hmm, it's going to be really fun.' Deebt thought, and a faint smile appeared on his face.
Deebt looked at the principal before standing up, then recalled the feeling he'd had yesterday, that feeling still lingered with him.
That his efforts hadn't yet pushed him to his true limits, even though he was tired and exhausted.
Ayur Tab was the principal, a man of the night's talent, this was known to the whole world, after all, he was ranked number two in the world.
"Principal, I'd like to ask you something before I go."
"Ask away, Deebt."
"I trained yesterday and exerted a great deal of physical effort, but even though I was tired and gave it my all, I didn't feel like I'd actually reached my limit… As if what I did wasn't the absolute best I could do." Deebt explained the feeling from the beginning.
"That's natural for you, Deebt. Since you're highly talented, that feeling is called the 'true limit'." The principal's tone was calm and gentle, despite being the world's number two, he didn't exert any pressure and didn't let his reputation affect his humility.
"The true limit? What is that?" Deebt asked curiously.
"It goes without saying that you won't know until you go to sunrise. We avoid teaching many things in high school due to government pressure, as the best environment for you is the academies, where you can be taught knowledge and gain experience simultaneously in the most optimal and effective way." The principal explained why no information about this concept had been revealed, then paused briefly before continuing.
"Alright, I'll tell you. Deebt, you know your talent is as high as mine and your brother's, but even among our talents, there is a difference. 'True limits' is that state that appears in the highest talents, where they feel they are far from their true level no matter how much effort and time they put in."
The principal looked at Deebt for a moment before finishing.
"This state reflects the mental and physical potential an individual can reach. As long as you feel that no matter how much effort you put in, it's as if it's nothing, then you're on the right track, it means you're still persevering and eager to progress." The principal explained the matter fully, said nothing more, and looked deeply at Deebt.
"So 'true limits' are a condition exclusive to the most gifted among the gifted… Huh, I see, that makes a bit of sense. The system is really strange. Why didn't it call this the 'true limit' of talent? Why did it place it under the framework of night talent?" Deebt spoke his thoughts clearly, he wasn't even looking at the principal but was lost in his own thoughts, staring absently at the desk.
"Hahaha, Deebt, you ask too many questions. The system gave humans the ability to reach the limits of their potential. This certainly wasn't free, everyone has their limits, and they can only reach them through effort and time, not everything is free."
"But doesn't that make you curious?"
"Yes, it makes me even more curious. The System is mysterious, we know nothing about it yet. For 200 years we've known nothing, even the pyramids of Egypt revealed their secrets, and the ruins of Atlantis have been found,… But we've found nothing about the system… When I was young, I suspected that the system might have appeared in previous civilizations and then disappeared along with those civilizations, or simply because it served, or failed to serve, its purpose. I have no proof, but pursuing that mystery is incredibly fascinating." The principal's tone was different, he was enjoying how the conversation had turned out this way, and he didn't even hide his personal thoughts.
"That's really interesting. Mystery? What a beautiful word. Even if humans fear the unknown, they still pursue it." Deebt was smiling wildly.
The principal noticed this change, perhaps Deebt's desire to know more had been ignited, but this had its limits in the principal's view.
'I hope this desire doesn't fade with time.' the principal thought for a moment.
"Maybe you're right, Deebt, and maybe you're not, not everything is set in stone." said the principal.
"I understand, principal. Thank you for your valuable time." Deebt said before leaving the office.
Before the office door closed, a look of satisfaction could be seen on the principal's face.
Even after Deebt had left, he couldn't hide his expression, he was now even more excited about the past.
…
Deebt entered the classroom, and under everyone's gaze, he sat down quietly in his seat.
But he couldn't concentrate in class, one after another, he paid no attention to any of them.
He thought about the system again for a while, then his thoughts turned to the academy he had chosen.
The sunrise.
Its entrance exam was different, it was difficult because it put you under immediate pressure.
The sunrise academy did not treat what you had studied in the past as important, once you passed the exam, they started teaching you the path of the Conqueror from the very beginning.
The entrance exam had five criteria, if any one of these criteria fell short of the required standards, even if you succeeded in the other aspects, you would fail. It was a truly difficult exam.
Identifying and evaluating talent, this was the first stage and the first test. The test was based on identifying talent, although those with high talent had better chances, even those with lower talent had a chance if they met the minimum requirements.
After all, the talent test determined the effort an individual put in, Deebt felt he had to do even more.
The second test was to assess information to ensure it aligned with the person's talent and the effort they had put in, perhaps this was the easiest test.
As for the third test, it was fighting monsters, defeating three monsters by oneself without anyone's help.
This was to confirm each individual's capabilities.
If the professor had to intervene to save you, it meant you had failed completely.
Then came the battle against the professor.
It might have seemed like everything was just for the sake of fighting, but on the contrary, the sunrise academy used all the information gathered during the tests to help you develop further if you passed.
Their final test was unique in that it was a written, mental test. It might have seemed easy, but it was designed to assess individuals' intelligence and their ability to handle complex problems and situations with great dynamism and flexibility.
'I need to try harder.' thought Deebt as he tightened his fist.
