Chapter 3 - The system, talent.

Deebt listened intently to the professor's explanation, he wanted to change his major, so it was essential for him to pay as much attention as possible.

Before, he hadn't even tried; he hadn't cared.

The subject of the system was trivial to him, and so was everything related to combat.

Information about the system was widespread throughout the world, but some of it was only ever taught in schools and academies.

Deebt didn't engage much with the system, he would only occasionally say "status" and "information" without any interest in self improvement.

He was truly determined to be an employee.

Even at school, combat, training, and martial arts classes were unimportant to him, so he always skipped them.

"As you all know, we didn't discuss the system at all during the first part of the year, because it simply wasn't useful to you, so it was only mentioned in passing. However, the training you underwent and the mental exercises you practiced were part of the system's concept. Now, you'll get an explanation. Since most of you will be assigned to the sunrise academy or the sunset academy, you need to know all the information we have."

"'Status' only shows your name, age, and health, it doesn't show anything else. Even if you become a conqueror, it won't change. When you want 'Information', the system displays your strength, stamina, agility, speed, and intelligence. It also shows the number of lines, talent, ability, ability development, and weapon."

"All of you, now, display your information. And whoever I ask, tell me what it is."

"You, Sam, tell me your information?" The professor spoke to a boy with thick black hair and deep green eyes, his physique exuded agility and strength.

No one objected to the idea of revealing their information, because when they enrolled in the academy, all of this had already been discovered through them. All their information belonged to the academy, and strict laws had been enacted regarding student information and the necessity of keeping it secure.

Even if it were revealed, there wasn't much danger, because that information changes over time, though if their talents were exposed, it would cause a stir in the world.

It had been dangerous 50 years ago, but now the government had significant influence and power, so no one dared to target it.

The principal was also a powerful figure in the world, his mere presence within the high school meant automatic protection.

"Alright, strength: 10, stamina: 8, agility: 9, speed: 7, intelligence: 15. Should I mention the number of lines and the talent as well, sir?" The boy's voice was extremely polite.

"No, Sam, just tell us your talent." The professor spoke casually.

"My talent is Solar eclipse." Sam said confidently, everyone knew what this talent meant, a bright future.

"Well done, Sam. Tell us what your stats were like before entering the academy?"

"They were a little lower than this, by about one or two points each, but they've gone up." Sam explained.

"Yes, but rest assured that your stats will double after you go to sunrise or sunset. Their training is different and will make you much better..."

The professor looked at Sam to make sure he understood what he meant, Sam nodded, and then the professor chose another student and asked him.

That student had only sunrise talent, so he wasn't paid much attention to, unlike Sam, who received envious and admiring glances from many in the class.

The professor then looked around the class and chose Deebt this time.

"Deebt, tell us your information. Even though you don't train and say you'll become a government employee, you're a clear example to explain the difference between their past selves and now, because when you first entered, there wasn't much difference between you." It seemed like the professor was mocking Deebt.

But Deebt didn't see it that way, because he was right

He really was an example… Well, a bad example, mostly.

Deebt never talked to his classmates, only Milly was the one he spoke to, and now he considered her just like the rest of them.

So he didn't get involved in the whole 'stats' thing at all. Many were bragging, but Deebt wasn't there, he didn't hang out with anyone, didn't care about anyone's stats, and didn't ask anyone about theirs.

But when he heard the stats of the boys the professor mentioned, he felt a little happy, because he would be a bad example.

"Alright, strength: 15, stamina: 12, agility: 13, speed: 9, intelligence: 21, talent: Night." Deebt said calmly.

Everyone looked at him in shock, especially upon hearing his talent.

"Deebt, what did you say?" the professor asked him again in a hesitant tone.

"I said what I said. Do you want me to add anything else?"

"But your stats are high? How? And your talent, do you even realize what you just said?" the professor asked him.

"That's how the 'status' has been since the beginning of the year, it's the normal situation. As for my talent, yes, it's Night. No one asked me, so I didn't tell anyone. Today, you asked me." Deebt pointed out the key points.

The professor stopped paying attention to everyone else in the room, Deebt was now the center of everyone's focus.

The talent of the night.

This was the highest talent the system had ever revealed to humans, there were very few of them in the world.

No one doubted whether Deebt was lying or not, because the professor's ability was known to everyone.

[Primary ability: Lie detection.]

[Ability development: 87%.]

Even with the professor using his ability, he was certain that Deebt was telling the truth.

"...the talent, night." said Deebt.

Milly looked at him in shock.

'What is this fool saying? Doesn't he fear lying to the professor? Doesn't he know his ability?' That's what Milly thought.

But all her thoughts were silenced by the professor's silence, Deebt was telling the truth.

Milly had never asked Deebt about his talent, nor had she asked him about his information.

She believed that the reason behind his desire to become a government employee was his lack of talent and knowledge, and that his desire to avoid getting involved in conflicts was merely an excuse, so she didn't put him on the spot with the question.

But the opposite was true, Deebt possessed immense talent, and the fact that his information alone surpassed that of many students in the class proved it, especially since he had never trained and no one had ever seen him do so.

Shock was etched on her face.

"Seriously, why would you want to become a government employee with talent like that?" The professor broke his stern demeanor and stared at Deebt with astonishment and bewilderment, he wasn't the only one, all the students stared at him in shock.

"I wanted to do that to avoid fighting, it's annoying. But now I've gone to the principal to change my major." Deebt dropped another bombshell.

"Huh… What? Good for you, Deebt. That's good for you." The professor was shocked by Deebt's first statement, but his expression changed when he heard the second.

Changing majors meant that Deebt had chosen to make the most of his potential, the professor was pleased by this.

'This is good for him, a talent like his shouldn't go to waste.' the professor thought quietly.

The professor was a government employee, he possessed a low tier talent, the talent of sunrise.

His special ability has only reached an 87% development rate.

To see such a talent willing to bury itself in the dirt was a waste, so he was truly happy about Deebt's desire to change.

"Deebt, sit down."

Deebt had been standing, he paid no attention to the stares surrounding him.

He sat down calmly and continued to listen to the teacher.

Deebt didn't know why the professor was happy, a smile was lighting up his face.

'Is he happy because of me?' Deebt wondered.

The professor regained his composure and returned to explaining the lesson.

"Alright, everyone, when you graduate and go to the major academies, they will offer you lines."

"Lines exist in the spinal cord of all living beings, whether they are humans, animals, or monsters. But the lines that must be consumed to obtain an ability are mostly found in monsters or the Conquerors. Obtaining a line means you are close to acquiring an ability, and once you have an ability, obtaining a line means developing that ability."

The professor explained calmly, as if what had happened earlier with Deebt hadn't occurred.

"As for attributes like strength and agility, they develop only through training and nothing else."

The professor spoke until the class was nearing its end.

"Alright, in the next class we'll talk about a topic you're all familiar with: gray matter."

Ding, ding, ding.

"You may leave." As he said this, the high school bell rang.

The professor was the first to leave, then Deebt moved to exit.

"I can't believe such talent was hidden in our class."

"He's an idiot, even with his talent, didn't you see he was going to waste it?"

"His information was amazing, he hasn't even trained, yet his stats are on par with the top students in our class."

Everyone was in a frenzy.

Ever since they learned of Deebt's talent and information, they could only feel astonishment, envy, jealousy, and fear… their emotions were conflicting.

Milly left the classroom and headed to another one, her next class wasn't for another half hour, so she had time.

Milly walked over and opened the door to another classroom.

Everyone there was her age, some of the boys looked at her with lust, and others with admiration.

But Milly fixed her gaze on a young man with black eyes and dark brown wavy hair that reached his shoulders, it was Jazz, Deebt's brother.

She approached Jazz, and he quickly noticed her.

"Milly? What are you doing here?" Jazz spoke calmly.

He was surrounded by a few boys and girls, unlike Deebt, Jazz was popular.

"I'd like to talk to you. Can you spare five minutes of your time?" Milly said.

"Sure, even though time is precious, but no problem. Okay, let's go."

"Sorry, I'll be back in a bit so we can continue our conversation." Jazz said to the group he had been talking to before Milly arrived.

After they stepped out onto the sports field, Milly turned and looked at Jazz.

"Did you know about Deebt's talent?"

"Yeah, why?" Jazz replied casually.

"What? Do you even know what it is?" Milly said with a hint of anger in her voice.

"Yeah, isn't it night?"

Milly almost lost her balance for a moment.

'Those two are crazy, how can they be like this? Why am I even angry?' Milly thought angrily.

She didn't even know why she was angry, but she was angry anyway.

"Milly, let me guess, you're angry because he didn't tell you this. Don't worry, you two never got into this conversation. Maybe you thought he was untalented and didn't want to embarrass him, but it's the opposite, my brother is more talented than me." Jazz's tone was deep for a moment.

'Damn him and his analysis.' Milly couldn't deny what Jazz had said.

"Why? What's your talent? I never asked you about this."

"Me? It's the night, too." Jazz smiled.

Milly's mouth fell open in shock, she couldn't respond.

"Wh.. What… Whhaat? What are you guys talking about? Does everyone know that you're the Night talent besides me?" Milly's voice trembled and her tone was hesitant.

"I've never revealed my talent, only my brother and my family know, and now you. I didn't even answer that professor's question." Jazz explained matter of factly.

"Did my brother say it out loud?" Jazz concluded.

"Yes, everyone found out when that professor who exposes lies asked him." Milly didn't know the teacher's name, he was famous for his ability, so she had never bothered to learn it.

"Hahahaha, I can't believe he said it out loud. He doesn't care at all, maybe because the professor asked him, so he said it clearly." Jazz was laughing at his brother's behavior.

'What on earth is going on with these two idiots? Wait, why did he say earlier that Deebt's talent is higher than his? Isn't it obvious that Jazz is stronger?' Milly thought for a moment before reevaluating Jazz and Deebt.

"Jazz, why did you say Deebt's talent is higher? Aren't you two the same?" Milly asked.

"It's just a hunch of mine, my brother is more talented. You might not know why he wanted to be an employee from the start, but that doesn't matter now."

Jazz glanced at his watch, leaving Milly speechless, and said before leaving.

"Five minutes have passed. We'll talk later, Milly."

Deebt was outside the classroom now.

He headed to the vending machine and grabbed an iced coffee from there.

He sat on one of the chairs overlooking the school garden, he usually sat here and looked at the flowers and the big trees.

"What an annoying situation, I mentioned my talent."

Deebt knew the value of his talent, in the entire school, there were only three people with this talent.

Him, his brother, and the principal.

Deebt thought back to his first day at school, as soon as he and his brother stood before the principal, he discovered their talent.

It was annoying for Deebt, but Jazz was enjoying it. Unfortunately, the principal's hopes for Deebt were soon dashed because he had mentioned that he would become a government employee.

But not Jazz.

Jazz wanted to become a conqueror, and not just any conqueror, but the number one.

"What a day. How did I even think about becoming a government official?" Deebt wondered aloud.

He knew the reason, but he had truly convinced himself of that desire.

"Yeah, I want to know too."

Deebt heard a female voice coming from behind him, she was looking at him with beautiful brown eyes.

"Milly?"

"Yeah, Milly. What do you think, don't you like me?" Milly spoke in an annoyed tone.

"Don't interrupt my thoughts. If you want to say something, just say it." Deebt got to the point.

"What's wrong with you? Why have you changed the way you treat me?" Milly looked at him intently.

"Because it's annoying and doesn't do me any good." Deebt was clear.

"Why didn't you tell me about your talent?" Milly asked another question.

"You didn't ask, and I didn't want to tell anyone. If I hadn't decided to change my major, no one would have known. Also, I was happy that your talent is the Daytime, so I didn't want to make you feel inadequate." Deebt explained matter of factly.

"Am I a bother to you?" This was Milly's important question, she was bowing her head and looking at the ground as she asked him.

"Yes."

"Okay, I understand." Milly replied, then walked away.

Deebt looked at the spot where she had been standing and saw a drop of water there, it was a tear.
