Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 — Return to Base, and Journey to a New World

"These four books are the four fundamentals I left behind. Basically, anyone with magical power can learn them."

"And beyond these four basics, there are many different combinations of famous techniques and even more sophisticated methods that can be explored."

"Of course! If you cannot even master these four basics, then forget about acquiring more advanced techniques."

"These four fundamentals can be said to be skills that anyone with magical power can master through hard practice. So now the time has come to prove your mettle!"

After finishing explaining the functions of the four books, Sylvar Crowe fell silent and looked at Nash.

Nash immediately spoke with a determined expression.

"I will prove my backbone to you. The magic of never giving up does not belong only to Asta."

"No! It belongs to me as well!"

He paused for a moment, then corrected himself loudly.

"No! It belongs to us!"

Sylvar smiled faintly.

"Your voice is very spirited, but first you still need to obtain Sister Lily's approval."

"Hey?!"

Nash froze in surprise.

Although Sister Lily was very gentle, once something involved danger for the children she immediately became very strict. Getting her approval would not be easy.

After laughing for a while, Sylvar turned around and walked toward the church.

As he walked, he raised his hand and waved toward Yuno and Asta.

He walked straight to Sister Lily.

Standing in front of her again, Sylvar spoke in a serious tone.

"Sister Lily, about the books I just gave you. Nash wants to use them to train, but please do not hand them to him casually."

Sister Lily looked puzzled.

"What do you mean? Aren't these books meant for everyone to read? Why can't I simply give them to that child?"

Sylvar thought to himself.

It seems Sister Lily does not realize how important these four books are.

He spoke again in a solemn tone.

"Although these four books are easy to practice, and although anyone who successfully practices them can gain a certain degree of strength, they require extremely strong willpower."

"If his willpower is not strong enough, then these books would be entrusted to the wrong person."

"I must test his will first."

"Sister Lily, do you have any suggestions?"

After hearing those words, Sister Lily instinctively covered the four books in her arms with both hands.

Her eyes widened in surprise.

"Are these four books really that important?"

Sylvar tightened his facial muscles and answered with the most serious expression he could manage.

"Of course. This is the result of many years of my hard study and practice."

(That's a lie. It's just theoretical knowledge I stole from Hunter x Hunter…)

Sister Lily lowered her head and thought for a moment.

Then she raised her head again.

"I understand now. If he wants my approval, then he must follow the training that you and Asta have done for all these years."

Sylvar tilted his head slightly.

"For example?"

Sister Lily spoke as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"For example, your daily training."

"A ten-kilometer run, plus one hundred push-ups, one hundred sit-ups, and one hundred squats."

"Every single day. Spring, summer, autumn, and winter."

"Or he could train until he has muscles like Asta."

"Or even possess more magic power than Yuno."

After hearing Sister Lily's proposal, Sylvar nodded.

"That is a good idea."

Then he added quickly.

"But the last condition does not need to be included in the trial. That is very hurtful, Sister."

Sister Lily scratched the back of her head awkwardly.

"Oh… is that so?"

Sylvar replied seriously.

"Of course."

"With such powerful magic power, how could someone like Yuno have been abandoned under normal circumstances?"

Sister Lily frowned.

"But Yuno—"

Sylvar immediately interrupted.

"No 'but.'"

"He may have been forced to do that because of some danger in his family."

"After all, in this world where talent determines everything, talent is extremely important."

After speaking, Sylvar glanced at his watch.

More than an hour had already passed.

He thought silently for a moment.

I've already greeted everyone who needs to be greeted. I've already said everything that needed to be said.

He turned and walked toward Yuno and Asta.

"Although there are no missions right now, coming home like this is still a little improper."

"Say goodbye to everyone. Then we should return to the Magic Knights."

Yuno nodded.

"Okay."

Asta nodded as well.

"Okay!"

Yuno and Asta began saying farewell to the children.

Sylvar raised his hand and waved toward them with a smile.

"Goodbye, children."

"Anyway, now that I have space magic, I can come back to see you anytime. Haha."

The children waved their hands enthusiastically.

"Goodbye, Brother Sylvar!"

"Goodbye, Brother Yuno!"

"Goodbye, Brother Asta!"

Sister Lily smiled gently.

"Come visit often."

Sylvar nodded.

"With space magic I can come whenever I want."

"Alright. That's enough talking."

"Goodbye everyone."

Yuno and Asta spoke at the same time.

"Goodbye!"

Yuno stepped forward first and walked into the space tunnel.

Asta followed him.

Sylvar turned around once more and waved to everyone who remained in front of the church.

Then he stepped forward and entered the space tunnel himself.

The three of them arrived again at the entrance of the black market alley.

Sylvar spoke first.

"Well then, Yuno. Goodbye."

Yuno looked at the two of them.

"Goodbye, Sylvar. Asta."

Asta clenched his fist.

"Next time I will definitely become stronger!"

Yuno replied calmly.

"That will not happen."

The two of them immediately began arguing again.

Sylvar sighed.

He stepped forward and placed a hand on each of their shoulders, separating them.

"Alright, alright."

"You say the same things every time you meet."

"Goodbye."

As he spoke, Sylvar opened another space channel.

This time, the destination was the base of the Black Bulls.

When Sylvar and Asta returned to the Black Bulls' base, Sylvar immediately raised his hand and looked at the mechanical watch on his wrist.

The watch was the one he had brought back from the Hunter x Hunter world.

The time displayed was 9:20.

Did it only take about an hour?

Not bad.

Asta stretched his body.

"So what are we doing now?"

Sylvar answered casually.

"Nothing special."

"Go train."

Then Sylvar paused.

After thinking for a moment, another thought appeared in his mind.

I will be heading to another world soon.

Before that, I should collect a circle of magic power from whoever is still in the base.

Sylvar first searched the base and found Charmy, Gray, and Gordon, who seemed to have remained in the base the entire time.

The others were nowhere to be found.

When he went to see Gray, he also asked her to give him three transformation spells.

As for the other members of the Magic Knights, no one knew where they had gone.

However, Sylvar already had a guess about Captain Yami and Magna.

After all, they had obtained so much money from the Demon Palace.

Those two gamblers were almost certainly squandering it at a gambling table somewhere.

I wonder if the Wizard King will investigate corruption?

Sylvar shrugged slightly.

Who cares.

It has nothing to do with me anyway.

After returning to his room, Sylvar sat down quietly.

He spent half an hour adjusting his mental state.

He calmed his breathing.

He slowly relaxed every muscle in his body.

When the clock finally struck ten o'clock, Sylvar opened his eyes.

He raised his hand and took out the boundary-crossing bead.

Then he slowly poured the final 0.1% of his magic power into it.

This was his second journey to another world.

Start.

A flash of familiar light erupted.

The world twisted.

When Sylvar opened his eyes again, he found himself standing in a modern city filled with traffic.

It was daytime.

Cars moved along the roads.

Pedestrians filled the sidewalks.

People were walking everywhere.

It looked unusually lively.

Is today some kind of holiday?

Sylvar glanced around calmly.

It seems it is time to begin with the familiar routine and the familiar plan.

He reached into his pocket and took out a handful of gold coins.

Then he walked down the street and found a gold shop.

The shop did not look like a very proper gold shop.

He stepped inside.

He casually showed one of the gold coins to the shop owner and asked him to test whether it was pure gold.

After the test was finished, Sylvar left immediately.

He had never intended to sell the gold to that shop owner.

However, something strange soon caught his attention.

Sylvar noticed that the language spoken by the people in this city, as well as the words written on the billboards, were exactly the same as those used in the Black Clover world and the Hunter x Hunter world.

As expected.

One of the mysteries of world travel is that every world seems to speak the language of the traveler.

Sylvar walked forward along the street.

Soon he turned into a narrow alley that looked very old.

He stood inside the alley and waited quietly.

Only a few seconds passed.

Chaotic footsteps suddenly approached from behind him.

Dozens of people rushed into the alley while shouting at each other.

Sylvar calmly turned his head and looked toward the entrance of the alley.

There were no surveillance cameras.

Good.

Very safe.

Five seconds later.

Sylvar walked out of the alley.

Behind him, the robbers who had chased him were now all bound tightly by chains.

After robbing the robbers of their ill-gotten money, Sylvar first sold their mobile phones and watches.

Then he took one man's ID card.

Using sealed transformation magic, Sylvar transformed his appearance to match the man in the photo.

This would allow him to ride public transportation.

After all, some systems required identity verification.

Who knew how advanced the technology of this world might be?

Better to stay cautious.

The first rule of traveling to another world is caution.

Caution.

And even more caution.

Details determine success or failure.

My friends.

Sylvar examined the ID card carefully.

The information showed that this place was Country J.

After confirming that fact, he wandered around the city, trying to find clues about this world.

When he arrived near a subway station, he noticed something unusual.

Many people were carrying backpacks.

They were speaking excitedly with each other.

Sylvar quietly activated Nen.

He used the technique of Gyo to focus his aura into his ears.

His hearing immediately became sharper.

Now he could clearly hear their conversations.

They were all discussing the release of doujinshi.

Doujinshi?

Cosplay?

Some kind of two-dimensional culture?

Sylvar did not understand the otaku culture of this world very well.

However, based on their conversation, the event they were talking about seemed to be happening somewhere nearby.

Sylvar expanded his En.

He conducted a more detailed scan of the surrounding area.

Then he suddenly sensed something.

A magical reaction appeared in one direction.

A magical reaction!

So this world possesses extraordinary power as well.

Sylvar expanded his En to the limit.

The maximum range of his En was two kilometers.

However, if he wanted to extend the exploration range further, he needed to combine it with another Nen technique.

Sylvar immediately added Ren.

Aura surged out of his body like waves of wind.

His En changed shape.

Instead of a circle, it stretched outward like a fan.

The detection range extended further in one direction.

Finally, Sylvar located the source of the magical reaction.

It was a building.

A palace-like structure.

The architecture resembled something from ancient Rome.

And it had appeared suddenly in the middle of a modern road.

Sylvar slowly lowered his hand.

Then he connected the information he had just gathered.

The discussions about doujinshi.

The sudden appearance of a Roman-style palace.

And the magical reaction coming from that structure.

A realization suddenly appeared in his mind.

This world…

It was an old anime.

Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There.

GATE.
