The morning sun filtered through the dense canopy of Emberwood Forest's deep zone, casting dappled light on the moss-covered ground. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and distant mountain winds—far fresher than the novice village's edge. Kael (Zhu Shen) walked at the front, his Abyssal Frost Armor glinting faintly as he adjusted his attribute points, the thrill of reaching Lv.20 still lingering.

Ding! Lv.20 Attribute Allocation: 5 Free Points available.Current Allocation: Strength +5 (Total 40) | Stamina 5 | Agility 5 | Spirit 5Updated Stats: Attack 145 | Defense 180 | Health 370 | Mana 200

He flexed his fingers, feeling the surge of power—his Wolf Tooth Dagger now dealt 35-42 base damage, amplified by his Strength stat to a devastating 180-197. With the Shura's Novice Emblem's 10% Critical Rate boost, his crit chance sat at 17%—a lethal combination for any opponent.

Gareth (Shadow) walked beside him, his own Lv.20 points dumped into Agility and Strength (Agility 10, Strength 35), his Frostbite Dagger's attack climbing to 175-188. His movements were even more fluid, blending into the forest shadows like a second skin. "Crimson Horde scouts frequent this zone," he murmured, his eyes scanning the treetops. "Eve knows we're heading to Duskfall—she'll send someone to intercept."

Lila (Luna) skipped along behind them, her new Lv.10 gathering tool—[Moonlight Herb Sickle]—clipped to her belt. The Bronze-grade tool glinted silver, its +30% herb collection speed already proving useful: she'd filled her pouch with 12 rare [Stardust Moss] (a Lv.20 alchemy material) in the first hour of travel. "Look, Kael!" she held up a glowing green moss, her eyes bright. "The alchemist in the novice village said this makes high-level healing potions!"

Kael smiled, glancing back. "Hold onto it—we'll sell it in Duskfall for extra gold. You can buy better support gear." His communicator buzzed softly—another message from the hospital, confirming Lila's surgery was scheduled for three days later. The funds from Yun Feng and the Global Announcement reward (100 Gold Coins) were more than enough, but Kael's jaw tightened nonetheless. He needed to secure Duskfall's safety zone for her—no more threats, no more close calls.

As they rounded a bend, Gareth froze, his hand shooting out to stop Kael. "Three o'clock. Crimson Horde."

Kael activated [Detection Lv.1], and three red dots appeared on his mini-map—Crimson Horde scouts, their levels hovering at 21-22. Their IDs flashed: [Crimson Horde·Raze], [Crimson Horde·Blaze], [Crimson Horde·Haze].

[System Notification]

Target: Crimson Horde Scout Team (Lv.21-22)Class: Novice Warrior ×2, Novice Mage ×1Threat Level: Moderate (Coordinated attacks may trigger Frost Bind)

The scouts were looting a dead player's body, their laughter echoing through the forest. "Another Aeria Federation scrub," Raze sneered, kicking the corpse. "Eve's right—these losers are easy pickings. Once we take Duskfall's western gate, we'll hunt down that Zhu Shen and his little girl."

Lila's grip on her sickle tightened, her lips pressing into a thin line. Kael's eyes turned cold—mentioning Lila was a death sentence.

"Shadow, take the mage. I'll handle the two warriors. Luna, stay back—use Stardust Moss if they cast frost spells." Kael's voice was low, dangerous.

Gareth vanished into the shadows, his figure disappearing from sight. Kael charged forward, his Wolf Tooth Dagger raised. The two Crimson Horde warriors spun around, their eyes widening as they saw him. "It's Zhu Shen!" Blaze shouted, drawing his iron sword. "Eve's offering a bounty for his head!"

Kael didn't waste words. He darted between the two warriors, his dagger slashing at Blaze's throat.

210 DMG! (Critical Strike + Weak Point)Crimson Horde·Blaze has been slain!

Raze roared, swinging his sword at Kael's chest. Kael blocked with his dagger, the clang of metal ringing out, then kicked Raze's knee—sending him crashing to the ground. He drove the dagger into Raze's chest.

195 DMG! (One-Hit Kill)

By then, Gareth had reappeared behind the mage, his Frostbite Dagger piercing her back. The mage's frost spell fizzled mid-cast, and she collapsed.

208 DMG! (Backstab + Legendary Weapon Bonus)Crimson Horde·Haze has been slain!

The battle was over in 15 seconds.

Kael picked up the bounty letter, unfolding it. The paper was stained with ink, Eve's elegant handwriting scrawled across it: Wanted: Zhu Shen (Dead or Alive). Reward: 500 Gold Coins + Access to Frost Realm Core Zone. Failure is not an option.

He crushed the letter in his hand. "She's desperate."

Gareth nodded, wiping his dagger clean. "The Frost Realm opens in a week. She wants to eliminate us before then."

Luna stepped forward, placing a hand on Kael's arm. "We'll stop her. Together."

Kael's cold expression softened. He squeezed her hand, then gestured forward. "Duskfall is ahead. Let's move."

An hour later, the forest thinned, and Duskfall City came into view.

It was a massive fortress, its walls built from dark stone, towering over the landscape. Flags emblazoned with a crescent moon (the city's symbol) fluttered from the battlements, and thousands of players streamed in and out of the giant iron gates. Merchants shouted from stalls lining the road, selling weapons, potions, and crafting materials. The air hummed with activity—far busier than the novice village, a true hub of the Aeria Federation's in-game power.

[System Notification]

Ding! You have entered Duskfall City (Lv.20+ Main City)!Ding! Unlocked Duskfall City functions: Guild Registration, Auction House, Alchemy Shop, Blacksmith (Elite), Safety Zone, Player Housing.Ding! Your reputation "Honored Hero" (Novice Village) grants you 10% discount at all Duskfall merchants!

Lila's eyes widened, her head turning this way and that. "It's so big!" she exclaimed, pointing at a flying mount soaring over the city. "Look—people are riding dragons!"

Kael smiled, guiding her toward the safety zone—a large square in the city's center, protected by NPC guards. "First, we'll secure your safety zone access. No one can attack you here."

They approached the safety zone administrator, an elderly NPC in a blue robe. "Welcome to Duskfall, honored heroes," he said, bowing. "To activate permanent safety zone access for your companion, please pay 1 Gold Coin."

Kael handed over the coin, and a golden light wrapped around Luna.

[System Notification]

Ding! Luna has obtained Permanent Duskfall Safety Zone Access!Effect: Immune to all player attacks and monster aggro within Duskfall's safety zone.

"Stay here," Kael said, kneeling to her level. "I'll meet Yun Feng, then we'll find you a player house—safe, comfortable, with a garden for your herbs. I'll be back soon."

Lila nodded, hugging him quickly. "Be careful. And don't forget the Stardust Moss—I want to learn alchemy!"

"I won't," Kael promised, then stood, signaling to Gareth. "Let's go."

They walked toward the city's western district, where Yun Feng had specified the meeting spot: [Moonlit Tavern]. The tavern was a two-story wooden building, its windows glowing with warm light. Inside, players sat at tables, drinking ale and discussing guild politics, PvP strategies, and the upcoming Frost Realm opening.

A man in a black cloak waved them over—Yun Feng (Phantom), his in-game avatar tall and lean, with a hood covering most of his face. "Zhu Shen! Shadow! Finally," he said, grinning as they sat. "That Global Announcement made waves—Crimson Horde's been ranting in the city chat for hours."

Kael nodded, cutting to the chase. "Lila's surgery is in three days. I need to make sure Duskfall is secure before I log out to accompany her. What's the situation here?"

Yun Feng's grin faded. "Crimson Horde has taken over the western gate's outer zone—they're extorting tolls from players and recruiting low-levels to their guild. Eve's here, too—she's been seen meeting with the city's corrupt guard captain. They're planning to seize the guild territory registration office tomorrow."

Gareth's hand tightened on his dagger. "We stop them."

"Exactly," Yun Feng said, sliding a map across the table. "The registration office opens at dawn. If we get there first, we can claim the best territory—near the Frost Realm portal. It's strategic—whoever controls it controls access to the mid-game zone."

Kael studied the map, his eyes narrowing. The territory was marked with a red circle—[Crescent Glade], a flat, resource-rich area with access to both the city and the Frost Realm. "We need to be there at dawn. No delays."

Yun Feng nodded, pulling a pouch from his belt. "Here—100 Gold Coins. Buy better gear. The Crimson Horde's top players are Lv.25-30, with Silver-grade equipment. You'll need upgrades."

Kael took the pouch, then stood. "We'll meet at the registration office at sunrise. And Yun—keep an eye on Luna in the safety zone. I don't trust Eve."

"Done," Yun Feng said. "She's safe with me. Now go—there's a blacksmith in the eastern district who sells Lv.20+ Steel-grade weapons. You'll need them."

Kael and Gareth left the tavern, the city's night bustle surrounding them. The moon rose over Duskfall's walls, casting silver light on the stone streets.

"We'll hit the blacksmith first," Kael said. "Then stock up on potions. Tomorrow, we take Crescent Glade."

Gareth nodded, his eyes scanning the shadows for threats. "Eve won't make it easy."

Kael grinned, his Wolf Tooth Dagger glinting in the moonlight. "Good. I want her to try."

They walked toward the eastern district, their steps steady, their resolve unshakable. Duskfall City was a new battlefield, and the Crimson Horde was their first target. For Lila, for the guild, for dominance in Divine Descent—they would not lose.

As they passed a merchant stall selling potions, Kael paused, buying 10 [Greater Healing Potions] (200 HP/sec) and 5 [Frost Resistance Potions]. "Just in case," he said, tucking them into his inventory.

The blacksmith's shop was busy, but the smith—an elderly dwarf named [Gimble]—recognized Kael's Abyssal Frost Armor. "Ah, the Novice Zone Conqueror!" he boomed, wiping his hands. "What can I forge for you?"

Kael placed the Wolf Tooth Dagger on the anvil. "I need an upgrade. Something that can take down Lv.30s."

Gimble's eyes lit up. "I've got just the thing—[Shadowsteel Dagger]. Steel-grade, Lv.22. Attack 55-62, +15% Penetration. Perfect for your Shura class."

[System Notification]

[Shadowsteel Dagger] (Steel-grade)Level Requirement: 22Attack: 55-62Attribute: PenetrationSpecial Effect: 20% chance to ignore 10% of target's defense.Cost: 80 Gold Coins.

Kael paid the gold, equipping the dagger immediately. His attack jumped to 200-207, a massive boost. Gareth bought a [Shadowsteel Sword] (Attack 60-65, +10% Critical Rate), his own damage climbing to 220-225.

"Ready for tomorrow?" Kael asked as they left the shop.

Gareth nodded, his gaze fixed on the registration office's direction. "Ready."

The two men walked back toward the safety zone, the night air growing cool. Ahead, the safety zone's golden light glowed, Lila's figure visible near a flower bed, tending to the herbs she'd collected.

Kael's heart softened. This was why he fought—for her safety, for her chance to grow up, to live without fear. Tomorrow's battle was more than just guild territory—it was a step toward that future.

He quickened his pace, Gareth beside him. Dawn would come soon, and with it, their next fight. But for now, he would spend a moment with Lila—cherishing the calm before the storm.
