The morning sun filtered through the hospital's floor-to-ceiling windows, casting sterile white light over the corridor. Kael Voss leaned against the wall, his hands clasped tightly, his gaze fixed on the "Operating Room" sign—red, glowing, a silent countdown to Lila's fate. He'd barely slept, his mind splitting between two worlds: the real-life battle for Lila's survival, and the in-game threat of Eve's promised attack. His phone buzzed in his pocket—another update from the security team: No suspicious activity outside the apartment. Guards are in place. But his in-game communicator, tucked into his bag, felt like a lead weight—he'd logged out hours ago, leaving Gareth and Yun Feng to defend Crescent Glade.
"Mr. Voss?" A nurse in scrubs approached, her voice gentle. "The surgery will start in 10 minutes. Lila asked for you—she wants to see you before she goes in."
Kael nodded, his throat tight. He followed her into the pre-op room, where Lila lay on a hospital bed, a thin hospital gown draped over her shoulders. Her face was pale, but her eyes lit up when she saw him. "Kael," she whispered, holding out her hand.
He knelt beside her, taking her small, cold hand in his. "You'll be okay," he said, his voice steady despite the panic in his chest. "The doctors are the best. I'll be right here when you wake up—promise."
Lila smiled, squeezing his hand. "I know. And when I wake up, we can log into Divine Descent together, right? I want to see the Frost Realm. Gareth said it's covered in snow—like a winter wonderland."
"We will," Kael promised, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "All of it—snow, herbs, monsters. Whatever you want."
A doctor stepped in, giving them a soft smile. "It's time, Lila. Let's get you prepped."
Lila nodded, but her grip on Kael's hand tightened. "Don't leave," she said quietly.
"I won't," Kael said, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Sleep well. I'll be here."
As they wheeled her into the operating room, the door closed with a soft click. Kael stood frozen, then walked back to the corridor, his eyes glued to the red sign. He pulled out his phone, opening the in-game companion app—he couldn't log in, but he could see guild notifications.
A flood of alerts popped up:
[Guild Notification]
09:05 AM (In-Game Time): Crimson Horde elites spotted approaching Crescent Glade's western border! Estimated force: 20+ players (Lv.25-28), led by Eve!09:07 AM (In-Game Time): Territory Defense Alert activated! NPC guards deployed to western gate!09:10 AM (In-Game Time): Eve has breached the outer wall! Guild members report heavy casualties!09:12 AM (In-Game Time): Luna is safe in the alchemy lab—deploying Blessed Moonbloom Pollen to frontline!
Kael's heart sank. Eve had timed her attack perfectly—right when he couldn't log in. He typed a urgent message to Gareth: Hold on. Surgery should be quick—I'll log in as soon as it's over. Protect Luna at all costs.
He stuffed the phone back into his pocket, pacing the corridor. Every second felt like an hour. The red sign mocked him, a reminder of how powerless he was—trapped between two worlds, unable to fight in either.
In Divine Descent, Crescent Glade was a warzone.
Flames roared as Crimson Horde mages cast fireballs at the wooden barracks, smoke billowing into the sky. Steel clashed against steel, and the screams of fallen guild members echoed across the territory. Eve stood at the center of the chaos, her blood-red armor stained with virtual blood, her scimitar glinting as she sliced through a recruit's defense.
"Where's Zhu Shen?" she shouted, her voice carrying over the battle. "Hiding in the real world while his guild burns? Pathetic!"
Gareth (Shadow) darted through the shadows, his Frostweave Dagger stabbing at Eve's back. She spun around, blocking the strike with her scimitar.

"Still playing lapdog?" Eve sneered, slashing at Gareth's chest. He rolled aside, the blade grazing his shoulder.

Yun Feng (Phantom) raced over, his staff glowing with fire. "Shadow! Get back!" He unleashed a [Firestorm], a vortex of flames swirling around Eve.
220 DMG! (Fire vs. Eve's Frost Affinity Bonus)Eve: Burning (15 damage/sec for 5s)
Eve roared, activating [Blood Rage] again—her attack spiking by 50%. She lunged at Yun Feng, her scimitar piercing his chest.
280 DMG! (Blood Rage Bonus)Yun Feng's HP: 80/400
"Yun!" Gareth shouted, throwing himself between Eve and Yun Feng. He stabbed his dagger into her thigh, forcing her back.
205 DMG! (Eve's HP: 70%)
From the safety of the alchemy lab, Lila (Luna) watched in terror. She clutched her pouch of Blessed Moonbloom Pollen, her hands shaking. The lab's windows gave her a clear view of the battle—guild members falling, the western wall in ruins, Eve cutting a path toward the lab. She knew Eve's target was her—she wanted to use her as leverage against Kael.
But she wasn't the scared novice she'd been in Frostfang Cave.
Lila took a deep breath, grabbing a handful of Stardust Moss and crushing it into her pollen. She ran to the lab's door, flinging it open, and threw the enhanced pollen into the air.

A warm, glowing green aura wrapped around Gareth and Yun Feng. Gareth's HP surged back to 295/350, and Yun Feng's Stardust Shield absorbed the remaining damage from Eve's attack.
"Nice work, Luna!" Yun Feng shouted, drinking a Stardust Healing Potion. His HP jumped to 380/400.
Eve's eyes narrowed, her attention snapping to Lila. "You little pest—time to die!" She broke free from Gareth's attack, charging toward the alchemy lab.
Gareth sprinted after her, his dagger slashing at her legs. "Stay away from her!"
But Eve was faster. She reached the lab door, slamming it open—only to be hit by a face-full of [Frost Resistance Elixir], thrown by Lila. The vial shattered, its contents drenching Eve.

Eve howled, activating a [Crimson Shield]—a red barrier wrapping around her, absorbing damage. "This isn't over!" she shouted, her eyes blazing. "When Zhu Shen comes back, I'll be waiting in the Frost Realm—with a surprise he'll never see coming!"
She activated another Escape Scroll, vanishing in a burst of red light. The remaining Crimson Horde elites, seeing their leader flee, turned and ran.

Gareth collapsed to his knees, breathing heavily. Yun Feng leaned against the lab wall, his staff clattering to the ground. Lila ran out of the lab, throwing her arms around Gareth's neck. "You did it! We won!"
Gareth patted her back, a rare softness in his eyes. "We did it. Thanks to you."
Yun Feng smiled, pulling out his communicator. "I'll send Kael a message—tell him we're safe. Now we need to repair the wall and reinforce the guards. Eve will be back."
Lila nodded, looking toward the Frost Realm portal in the distance. She hoped Kael was okay. She hoped the surgery was going well.
In the real world, the operating room sign flicked from red to green.
Kael's head snapped up, his heart racing. He ran toward the door as it opened, the doctor stepping out with a smile. "Mr. Voss, the surgery was a success. Lila is stable—she's waking up now."
Relief flooded Kael's body, his knees nearly giving out. He thanked the doctor repeatedly, then followed the nurse to the recovery room. Lila lay in the bed, her eyes fluttering open.
"Kael?" she whispered.
"I'm here," he said, taking her hand. "It worked. You're okay."
Lila smiled, her eyes closing again. "Told you… everything will be okay." She drifted off to sleep, her breathing steady.
Kael sat beside her, watching her sleep. He pulled out his phone—Yun Feng's message was waiting: Eve attacked, we held the territory. Luna is safe. Frost Realm portal is secure. Come back when you're ready.
He typed back: On my way. 30 minutes.
He stayed with Lila until the nurse said he could leave for a few hours—her recovery was smooth, and she'd be asleep for most of the day. Kael kissed her forehead, then rushed back to his apartment.
He logged into Divine Descent, the familiar glow wrapping around him.
[System Notification]
Ding! Welcome back, Zhu Shen!Current Status: Crescent Glade (Guild Territory)Guild Alert: Crimson Horde retreat confirmed. Territory repairs underway.
He spawned in the alchemy lab, where Gareth, Yun Feng, and Lila (Luna) were waiting. Lila ran over, hugging him. "You're back! The surgery went well?"
"Perfect," Kael said, hugging her back. "You're safe—here and in the real world."
Yun Feng held out a map. "Eve's retreat path leads straight to the Frost Realm. She's gathering her forces there. The portal is active—we can enter whenever you're ready."
Gareth nodded, his dagger glinting. "She won't get a second chance to threaten Luna. Not in the Frost Realm. Not anywhere."
Kael looked at his companions—his family. He thought of Lila's smiling face in the recovery room, of the guild members who'd fought to defend Crescent Glade, of the battle ahead.
Eve had made her move. Now it was his turn.
He turned toward the Frost Realm portal, its blue light swirling like a vortex. "Let's go. It's time to end this."

The four of them stepped toward the portal, their figures vanishing into the blue light. The Frost Realm awaited—cold, dangerous, and full of Eve's shadows. But Kael Voss was no longer fighting just for territory, or for power. He was fighting for Lila, for his guild, for the peace they'd fought so hard to build.
And this time, he wouldn't lose.
