# Chapter 9: The Breakthrough & The Visitor
Lin Yu sat on the bed. His legs were crossed. His hands rested on his knees. His eyes were closed. The room was dark. The candle had burned out hours ago. The moonlight came through the window. It was pale. It was cold. It fell on his face.
He was meditating. He had not moved for six hours. His breathing was slow. It was steady. In. Out. In. Out. He pulled Qi from the air. It entered his nose. It went down his throat. It settled in his stomach. His dantian was full. It was like a cup filled with water. It was ready to overflow.
He was at Level 1 Peak. He had been there for three days. He needed to break through. He needed Level 2. The Beast Tamers were watching. Chen was hiding. Elder Chen was planning. Lin Yu did not have time. He needed power now.
[Qi Density: Critical.] The Sword Box voice spoke. It was soft. It did not disturb his focus. [Barrier Detected. Thickness: Medium. Breakthrough Probability: 80%.]
"Push," Lin Yu thought.
He focused his mind. He imagined the Qi in his stomach. It was a ball of energy. It was hot. It was spinning. He made it spin faster. It hummed. It vibrated. His body shook slightly. The bed creaked.
He pushed harder. The Qi ball hit the barrier. It was like a wall. It was hard. It did not move. Lin Yu frowned. He sweated. The sweat ran down his face. It dropped on his robes. It made dark spots.
He grabbed the medicine bottle. It was the energy pill he bought. He swallowed it. It was bitter. It dissolved in his throat. It became heat. It went to his stomach. It joined the Qi ball. The ball grew bigger. It glowed brighter.
"Now," Lin Yu said. He whispered.
He slammed the Qi against the barrier. He used all his strength. He used his will. He used his anger. He thought about his past life. He thought about the blade in his chest. He thought about the Beast Tamer note. He thought about Mei Ling's worried eyes.
*Crack.*
A sound echoed in his mind. It was like ice breaking. The barrier shattered. The Qi flooded out. It went through his veins. It went to his arms. It went to his legs. It went to his eyes. His vision became clear. He could see the dust in the air. He could see the wood grain on the wall. He could hear a insect crawling outside.
[Breakthrough Successful.] The Sword Box said. [Cultivation Level: 2. Qi Capacity: Increased. Sword Compatibility: Increased.]
Lin Yu opened his eyes. They glowed faintly. The light faded quickly. He took a deep breath. He felt light. He felt strong. He stood up. He stretched. His bones popped. He felt flexible. He punched the air. The wind moved. He could feel the air resistance. It was new.
"Level 2," Lin Yu said. He looked at his hands. They were the same. But the power inside was different. It was denser. It was heavier.
[Reward Unlocked.] The Sword Box said. [Skill Point Gained. Upgrade Available.]
"Upgrade Silent Edge," Lin Yu said. "To Level 3."
[Confirmed. Energy Deducted: 100. Current Energy: 250.]
Lin Yu felt the sword in his arm. It vibrated. It was happy. It felt sharper. It felt faster. The Shadow Slash range increased again. Now it was twenty feet. He could cut from a distance. He could kill without touching.
He sat back down. He rested. He needed to stabilize his new power. He closed his eyes. He circulated the Qi. He made it calm. He made it steady. An hour passed. He stood up. He was ready.
He walked to the window. He looked outside. The sun was up. It was morning. He had cultivated all night. He was hungry. He had not eaten since yesterday.
He opened the door. He stepped out. The air was fresh. The birds were singing. The sect was awake. Disciples walked on the paths. They looked at him. They whispered.
"That is him."
"He returned from the Black Forest."
"Chen is hiding."
"He is dangerous."
Lin Yu ignored them. He walked to the kitchen. He needed to see Mei Ling. He wanted to tell her he was safe. He wanted to thank her for the antidote.
He reached the kitchen. It was busy. Servants carried water. They chopped vegetables. They cooked rice. The smell was good. It smelled like steam and meat.
He saw Mei Ling. She was at the stove. She stirred a big pot. She looked tired. Her eyes had dark circles. She had not slept well. She was worried about him.
Lin Yu walked to her. He stopped behind her. He did not speak. He waited.
Mei Ling turned. She saw him. She dropped the spoon. It clattered on the pot. The sound was loud. Some servants looked. They saw Lin Yu. They looked away quickly. They knew not to stare.
"Lin Yu," Mei Ling said. Her voice shook. "You are back."
"I told you," Lin Yu said. "I would come back."
Mei Ling looked at him. She looked at his face. She looked at his clothes. They were dirty. They had blood stains. But he was alive. He was standing. She let out a breath. She did not know she was holding it.
"I heard," Mei Ling said. "I heard you fought wolves. I heard Chen was hurt."
"It is done," Lin Yu said. "We are back."
Mei Ling nodded. She picked up the spoon. She stirred the pot. Her hands were shaking. Lin Yu reached out. He held her hand. He stopped the spoon. She looked at him.
"Are you hurt?" she asked. She looked at his arms. She looked at his chest.
"No," Lin Yu said. "I am fine."
"The antidote?" she asked. "Did you use it?"
"No," Lin Yu said. "I did not need it. But I kept it. It is safe."
Mei Ling smiled. It was a small smile. But it was real. "Good. My grandmother would be happy. She made it for protection."
"I will protect it," Lin Yu said. He looked into her eyes. "And I will protect you."
Mei Ling's face turned red. She looked down. She pulled her hand back. She went back to stirring. "You should eat. You look tired."
"I will," Lin Yu said. "Bring me a bun. I will wait outside."
He walked out. He stood in the shade of a tree. He waited. People walked past. They did not stop him. They respected him now. He was Level 2. He could feel their cultivation. Most were Level 1. Some were Level 2. He was not the weakest anymore.
Mei Ling came out. She held a tray. It had buns. It had a bowl of soup. It had pickled vegetables. It was a good meal. Better than servant food.
"Eat," she said. She gave him the tray.
Lin Yu took it. He ate the bun. It was warm. It was soft. He drank the soup. It was salty. It tasted like home. He ate quickly. He was very hungry.
"Slow down," Mei Ling said. "No one will take it."
Lin Yu slowed down. He chewed. He swallowed. He felt energy return to his body. The food helped. The cultivation made him hungry.
"Mei Ling," Lin Yu said. He put the bowl down. "Listen to me."
She looked at him. She saw his serious face. She stopped smiling.
"The Black Forest is not safe," Lin Yu said. "Do not go there. Do not collect herbs there. Do not walk near the edge."
"Why?" she asked. "Is it the beasts?"
"Beasts are not the only danger," Lin Yu said. "There are people. Bad people. They wear black armor. They use poison. They hide in the trees."
Mei Ling's eyes widened. "Beast Tamers?"
"Maybe," Lin Yu said. "Do not ask. Just stay away. If you see anyone strange, tell me. Do not confront them. Do not talk to them."
"I understand," Mei Ling said. She looked scared. "Lin Yu... are you in trouble?"
"I am always in trouble," Lin Yu said. He smiled slightly. It was a cold smile. "But I will handle it. You just stay safe. For me."
Mei Ling nodded. She touched her apron. She held it tight. "I will. I promise."
"Good," Lin Yu said. He stood up. He gave her the tray. "I have to go. An Elder wants to see me."
"Chen's uncle?" she asked.
"Maybe," Lin Yu said. "Do not worry."
He walked away. He did not look back. He knew she was watching. He felt her eyes on his back. It gave him strength. It gave him a reason to fight. He could not die. He had someone to protect.
He walked to the Elder's hall. It was a large building. It had high roofs. It had red pillars. Two guards stood at the door. They wore armor. They held spears.
"Name?" one guard asked.
"Lin Yu," Lin Yu said.
"Enter," the guard said. "He is waiting."
Lin Yu walked in. The hall was big. It was empty. Only one man sat at the end. He wore gray robes. He wore a hat. He looked old. His beard was white. It was long. It touched his chest.
It was Elder Chen.
Lin Yu walked to the center. He stopped. He bowed. "Elder."
Elder Chen looked at him. His eyes were small. They were dark. They looked like snake eyes. He did not smile. He did frown.
"You survived," Elder Chen said. His voice was deep. It echoed in the hall.
"Yes," Lin Yu said.
"My nephew said you were helpful," Elder Chen said. "He said you killed the Alpha Wolf."
"I did what was needed," Lin Yu said.
"And the cores?" Elder Chen asked. "Did you submit them?"
"Yes," Lin Yu said. "All ten. All valid."
Elder Chen leaned forward. He put his hands on the table. He tapped his fingers. *Tap. Tap. Tap.* It was rhythmic. It was annoying.
"You are strong for a servant," Elder Chen said. "Level 2. Just now. I can feel it."
Lin Yu did not answer. He kept his face blank. He did not confirm. He did not deny.
"Power is dangerous," Elder Chen said. "It attracts attention. It attracts enemies. You must be careful. Accidents happen. In the sect. Outside the sect. Everywhere."
It was a threat. Clear. Direct. Lin Yu understood. *Stop growing. Or die.*
"I am always careful," Lin Yu said.
"Good," Elder Chen said. He leaned back. He waved his hand. "You may go. Do not disappoint me. Your friend Mei Ling... she works in the kitchen. It is a dangerous place. Fire. Knives. Hot water."
Lin Yu's eyes narrowed. He felt anger. It rose in his chest. He pushed it down. He did not show it.
"I will tell her to be careful," Lin Yu said. His voice was cold. It was like ice.
Elder Chen smiled. It was a thin smile. It did not reach his eyes. "Do that. Dismissed."
Lin Yu turned. He walked out. He did not run. He walked calmly. He closed the door. He walked away from the hall. He walked until he was in the forest. He was alone.
He stopped. He punched a tree. *Boom.* The wood cracked. The leaves fell. His knuckles were red. He did not feel pain. He felt rage.
"He threatened her," Lin Yu said. He whispered.
[Threat Confirmed.] The Sword Box said. [Elder Chen is hostile. Danger Level: High. He cannot act openly. Sect rules. But he will use proxies. Assassins. Accidents.]
"I know," Lin Yu said. "He thinks he can control me. He thinks I am weak."
[You are not weak. You are Level 2. You have Silent Edge. You have me.]
"I need more," Lin Yu said. "Level 2 is not enough. An Elder is Level 5 or 6. I cannot fight him yet. I need to leave."
[Leave the sect?]
"Yes," Lin Yu said. "The sect is his territory. He has power here. He has friends. I am alone. If I stay, I die. If I leave, I can grow. I can hunt beasts. I can find allies. I can become strong enough to come back."
[Recommendation: Accept. The Wild offers more energy. More swords. More freedom.]
"I will prepare," Lin Yu said. "I will not run. I will strategic retreat. I will come back. And I will burn this hall down."
He turned around. He walked back to his room. He locked the door. He sat at the table. He took out a map. It was a map of the region. It showed the sect. It showed the forest. It showed the cities. It showed the Beast Tamer Guilds.
He looked at the Black Forest. He marked the spot where he found the note. He looked at the Capital. It was far. It was dangerous. But it had resources.
"Box," Lin Yu said. "Where is the nearest Sword Fragment?"
[Scanning...]
A blue light spread over the map. It stopped at a mountain. It was far. It was called the Iron Peak.
[Energy Signature Detected. Low. But compatible. Distance: 10 days travel.]
"Ten days," Lin Yu said. "I can do it."
He rolled up the map. He put it in his bag. He started packing. He took his clothes. He took his pills. He took his traps. He took the Silent Edge. He checked everything. He needed to be light. He needed to be fast.
He heard a knock on the door.
Lin Yu froze. He put his hand on the sword. "Who is it?"
"Message," a voice said. It was not Mei Ling. It was a man.
Lin Yu opened the door. A young disciple stood there. He held a scroll. He gave it to Lin Yu.
"From the Mission Hall," the disciple said. "Emergency Mission. Optional for Outer Disciples. Reward is high."
"Thank you," Lin Yu said. He took the scroll. He closed the door. He opened it. He read it.
*Mission: Clear Beast Nest. Location: Iron Peak. Reward: 1000 Contribution Points. Rare Pill.*
Lin Yu smiled. It was a coincidence. Or it was fate. The Sword Box pointed to Iron Peak. The Mission Hall pointed to Iron Peak. It was a sign.
"I will take it," Lin Yu said.
He walked to the Mission Hall. He submitted his name. The clerk looked at him. He surprised.
"Iron Peak?" the clerk asked. "It is dangerous. Level 4 Beasts. Many disciples died there."
"I know," Lin Yu said. "I will take it."
"Sign here," the clerk said.
Lin Yu signed. He took the mission token. It was metal. It was heavy. He put it in his bag. He walked back to his room. He finished packing. He looked around. The room was clean. He lived here for a week. It was safe. But safety was a trap.
He wrote a note. He put it on the table. *Gone on mission. Do not wait.* It was for Mei Ling. He did not want her to worry. He did not want her to come looking.
He opened the window. He jumped out. He landed softly. He walked to the sect gate. It was night. The guards were tired. They did not check him carefully. He showed his token. They let him pass.
He walked out. He was outside the sect. The wild was in front. The sky was dark. The stars were bright. He looked back. The sect was quiet. It was like a grave.
He turned away. He walked into the dark. He did not look back. He was alone. But he was not lonely. He had the Sword Box. He had a goal. He had a promise.
"Box," Lin Yu said. "Track the path."
[Path Set. Follow the moon. Avoid the main road. Use the river.]
"Let us go," Lin Yu said.
He started running. He used his Qi. He was fast. He was like a wind. He disappeared into the night. The sect was behind him. The future was in front. The Beast Tamers were waiting. The Elders were plotting.
Let them wait. Let them plot. Lin Yu was coming. And he would be ready.
The night was long. But the sun would rise. And Lin Yu would be there to see it. He would be stronger. He would be deadlier. He would be unstoppable.
This was not the end. It was the beginning. The real journey started now. The servant was gone. The cultivator was born. The hunter was awake.
He ran until morning. He stopped at a river. He drank water. He washed his face. He looked at his reflection. He looked different. He looked harder. He looked older. His eyes were sharp. They were like a sword.
"Level 2," he said. "Just the start."
He stood up. He wiped his mouth. He looked at the map. The Iron Peak was north. He walked north. He walked into the sun. The light hit his back. His shadow was long. It stretched in front of him. It looked like a path.
He followed the shadow. He walked into the wild. He did not stop. He did not rest. He had a mission. He had a destiny. And he would not fail.
The Sword Box hummed in his chest. It was quiet. It was waiting. It knew what was coming. It knew the blood. It knew the pain. It knew the glory.
And it was ready.
