Chapter 11 - Chapter11:The consolidation

# Chapter 11: The Consolidation

The morning light came through the window. It was pale. It was weak. It fell on Lin Yu's face. He did not move. He sat on the bed. His legs were crossed. His hands rested on his knees. His eyes were closed. He was still meditating.

He had broken through to Level 3 last night. But breakthrough was only the first step. Stabilization was the second. He needed to make the new power his own. He needed to weave the Qi into his muscles. He needed to weave it into his bones. He needed to weave it into his blood.

He breathed in. The air was cool. It entered his lungs. It became energy. It flowed to his dantian. His dantian was a sea. Before, it was a pond. Now, it was wider. It was deeper. The Qi spun inside. It was like a whirlpool. It pulled everything in.

He breathed out. The waste air left his body. It was gray. It smelled like dirt. It was the impurities. Cultivation cleaned the body. It made him stronger. It made him faster. It made him harder to kill.

He opened his eyes. They were clear. They were bright. He stood up. He stretched. His back cracked. It was a loud sound. It felt good. He punched the air. The wind moved. He could feel the pressure. He could feel the resistance. Before, his punch was weak. Now, it was heavy.

[Stabilization Complete.] The Sword Box voice spoke. It was calm. It was satisfied. [Cultivation Level: 3. Qi Capacity: Tripled. Sword Compatibility: Increased.]

Lin Yu nodded. He walked to the basin. He washed his face. The water was cold. It woke him up. He looked in the mirror. His face was the same. But his aura was different. He looked sharper. He looked dangerous.

"Energy status," Lin Yu said. He whispered.

[Current Energy: 400. Silent Edge: Level 3. Shadow Slash: Range 20 feet.]

"Good," Lin Yu said. "I need more."

He put on his robes. They were blue. They were outer disciple robes. They were clean. He packed his bag. He put the empty pill box away. He remembered Mei Ling.

He walked to the door. He opened it. He stepped out. The sect was awake. The sun was higher. The birds were singing. The paths were busy. Disciples walked to the training yards. Servants carried water. Elders flew on swords.

Lin Yu walked to the kitchen. He needed to see Mei Ling. He needed to resolve the pill situation. In his haste last night, he had swallowed the pill after she insisted. She had argued, but he had been firm. He needed the power to protect her. She understood eventually. But he wanted to check on her.

He reached the kitchen. The smell of steam hit him. It smelled like rice. It smelled like soup. It smelled like home. He saw Mei Ling. She was at the stove. She stirred a pot. She looked tired. But she looked happy.

She turned. She saw him. She smiled. It was a genuine smile.

"You look different," Mei Ling said. She wiped her hands on her apron. She walked to him.

"Level 3," Lin Yu said. He kept his voice low.

Mei Ling's eyes widened. "So fast? You just broke through to Level 2 yesterday."

"The pill helped," Lin Yu said. "And I trained hard."

"I told you to keep it," Mei Ling said. She looked at his chest. "I hope it was worth it."

"It was," Lin Yu said. "Now I can protect you. That is worth it."

Mei Ling looked down. She blushed. She played with her apron. "You do not need to protect me. I am careful."

"The world is not careful," Lin Yu said. "Enemies do not care about caution. They care about weakness. I am removing weakness."

Mei Ling looked up. She saw the determination in his eyes. She nodded. "Okay. Just... be safe. Do not take too many risks."

"I calculate risks," Lin Yu said. "I do not gamble."

He stayed for a minute. He ate a bun. He drank water. Then he left. He had things to do. He needed to submit the mission report formally. He needed to collect his points. He needed to watch his back.

He walked to the Mission Hall. The building was large. It had high ceilings. It had many counters. Clerks sat behind wood desks. They wrote on scrolls. They counted stones. Disciples lined up. They waited their turn.

Lin Yu stood in line. He watched the people. He analyzed them. He looked for threats. He saw Chen's friends. They stood in the corner. They whispered. They looked at him. They looked away when he glanced. They were scared. Good. Fear kept them alive. Fear kept them away.

He reached the counter. The clerk was the same one. He looked at Lin Yu. He looked at the cores. He looked at the token.

"Iron Peak," the clerk said. "You survived."

"Yes," Lin Yu said.

"Many did not," the clerk said. He checked the cores. He checked the token. "Valid. Points added. Reward claimed."

He stamped the scroll. He pushed a bag of spirit stones to Lin Yu. "Here. Your share."

Lin Yu took the bag. It was heavy. He put it in his sleeve. "Thank you."

He turned away. He walked to the exit. He felt eyes on him. He knew who it was. He did not look. He walked out. He went to the training yard. It was empty. Early morning. Most disciples were in class. Or sleeping. Or plotting.

Lin Yu stood in the center. He drew the Silent Edge. The black sword appeared. It hummed. It felt his new Qi. It was happy. It was hungry.

"Test," Lin Yu said.

He swung. The sword cut the air. *Whoosh.* The sound was sharp. It was loud. He swung again. Faster. He used Shadow Slash. The slash flew twenty feet. It hit a wooden dummy. The dummy broke. It snapped in half. The wood splintered.

[Damage Output: Increased. Efficiency: 90%.]

"More," Lin Yu said.

He moved. He practiced forms. He stepped. He turned. He stabbed. He slashed. He flowed. The sword was part of him. It was an extension of his arm. It was an extension of his will. He trained for an hour. He sweated. His robes were wet. He stopped. He breathed.

He felt better. He felt ready. He sheathed the sword. He walked to the edge of the yard. He sat on a bench. He rested. He watched the gate.

People started to arrive. Disciples came to train. They saw Lin Yu. They nodded. Some bowed. They respected strength. He had proven himself. He was not a servant anymore. He was a disciple. He was a killer.

A shadow fell over him. Lin Yu looked up. A man stood there. He wore gray robes. He wore a hat. He looked old. He looked familiar.

It was Elder Chen.

Lin Yu stood up. He bowed. "Elder."

Elder Chen looked at him. His eyes were small. They were dark. They did not blink. He looked at Lin Yu's sword. He looked at Lin Yu's hands. He looked at Lin Yu's eyes.

"Level 3," Elder Chen said. His voice was flat. "Very fast."

"Hard work," Lin Yu said.

"Or shortcuts," Elder Chen said. "Some pills are dangerous. Some methods are forbidden. You must be careful. The sect checks these things."

It was a threat. Clear. Direct. He was accusing Lin Yu of cheating. He was looking for an excuse to punish him.

"I follow the rules," Lin Yu said. "My progress is legal."

"Rules change," Elder Chen said. "Investigations happen. You might be called to testify. You might be searched."

"I have nothing to hide," Lin Yu said.

"We shall see," Elder Chen said. He turned away. He walked off. He did not look back.

Lin Yu sat down. He did not move. He watched the Elder go. He felt anger. But he controlled it. Anger was useful. But only if it was cold. Hot anger made mistakes. Cold anger made plans.

[Threat Level: Increased.] The Sword Box said. [Elder Chen is escalating. He cannot kill you openly. So he uses rules. He uses law.]

"I know," Lin Yu thought. "He wants to trap me. He wants to find a reason to expel me. Or arrest me."

[Countermeasure: Stay clean. Do not break sect rules. Do not give him evidence.]

"I will," Lin Yu thought. "But I need leverage. I need something on him."

[Beast Tamer Connection. You have the note. But it is burned. You need proof.]

"I will find it," Lin Yu thought. "In the forest. In the sect. Everywhere."

Lin Yu stood up. He walked away from the yard. He went to the library. It was a large building. It had many shelves. It had many scrolls. Outer Disciples could enter. He showed his token. The guard let him pass.

He walked inside. It was quiet. The smell of old paper filled the air. It smelled like dust. It smelled like history. Disciples sat at tables. They read. They copied. They studied.

Lin Yu walked to the history section. He looked for records. He looked for Beast Tamer activity. He looked for Elder Chen's history. He looked for anomalies. He spent hours. He read scrolls. He found nothing. The records were clean. Too clean.

"Someone cleaned them," Lin Yu thought.

[Likely. Elder Chen has power. He can alter records.]

"Then I look elsewhere," Lin Yu thought.

He went to the mission board. He looked for old missions. He looked for Iron Peak. He looked for Black Forest. He saw a pattern. Missions failed in those areas. Disciples died. No bodies recovered.

"Graveyards," Lin Yu thought. "They use them for tests. Or for sacrifices."

[Probability: High. Beast Tamers need blood. For rituals. For beasts.]

Lin Yu took a scroll. He copied the dates. He copied the names. He put it in his bag. He left the library. The sun was setting. The sky was orange. The shadows were long.

He walked to his room. He locked the door. He sat at the table. He spread the paper. He looked at the names. Fifty names. All dead. All in the last year. All in Chen's jurisdiction.

"This is it," Lin Yu said. "This is the proof."

[Not enough. It is circumstantial. You need a witness. Or a confession. Or a physical link.]

"I will get it," Lin Yu said. "I will go back to the forest. I will find the camp. I will find the link."

[Risk: High. Elder Chen knows you are investigating.]

"I will be careful," Lin Yu said.

He packed his bag. He took traps. He took pills. He took food. He took the Silent Edge. He was ready. He would leave tonight. He would not tell anyone. Except Mei Ling.

He went to the kitchen. It was dark. The servants were sleeping. He knocked on the side door. Mei Ling opened it. She wore a night robe. She looked surprised.

"Lin Yu?" she whispered. "What is wrong?"

"I am leaving," Lin Yu said. "Tonight."

"Where?" Mei Ling asked. She looked scared.

"Forest," Lin Yu said. "I found something. I need to check it."

"Is it dangerous?" Mei Ling asked.

"Yes," Lin Yu said. "That is why I tell you. If I do not come back in three days... go to the Elder. The gray one. Not Chen. Give him this."

He gave her the paper. The list of names. Mei Ling took it. Her hands shook.

"Lin Yu..." she said. "Do not go."

"I must," Lin Yu said. "If I do not, he wins. If he wins, you are not safe. No one is safe."

Mei Ling held the paper. She looked at him. She stepped forward. She hugged him. It was tight. It was warm. She held on. She did not let go.

"Come back," she said. Her voice was muffled. "Please."

"I will," Lin Yu said. He hugged her back. For a second. Then he let go. He turned. He walked away. He did not look back. If he looked, he might stay. And if he stayed, he would die.

He walked to the sect gate. It was night. The guards were sleepy. They did not check him carefully. He showed his token. They let him pass. He walked out. He was outside. The wild was in front. The dark was deep.

He did not run. He walked. He was calm. He was focused. He had a goal. He had a list. He had a sword.

[Path Set.] The Sword Box said. [Black Forest. Previous Camp Site.]

"Lead the way," Lin Yu said.

He entered the trees. The leaves blocked the moon. It was dark. He used Qi to see. He saw the path. He saw the traps. He avoided them. He moved like a ghost. He was silent. He was deadly.

He walked for two hours. He reached the clearing. The camp was gone. The fire was cold. The blood was washed away. But the ground was disturbed. The earth was turned.

[Scan Complete.] The Sword Box said. [Energy Residue Detected. Dark Energy. Beast Tamer Signature.]

"Fresh?" Lin Yu asked.

[Less than 24 hours. They were here.]

Lin Yu knelt. He touched the ground. It was soft. He dug. He found something. A piece of cloth. It was black. It had a symbol. A black hand.

"Same as the note," Lin Yu said.

[Yes. They are active. They are close.]

Lin Yu stood up. He looked around. He listened. He heard breathing. It was not animals. It was humans. They were nearby. They were watching.

"Come out," Lin Yu said. His voice was loud. It echoed in the trees. "I know you are there."

Silence. Then laughter. It came from the dark. It was cold. It was cruel.

"You are smart," a voice said. "Smarter than the others."

A man stepped out. He wore black robes. He wore a mask. He held a sword. It was red. It glowed.

"Who are you?" Lin Yu asked.

"A collector," the man said. "I collect souls. For the Guild. You have a strong soul. It will fetch a good price."

"Price?" Lin Yu said. "I am not for sale."

"Everyone is," the man said. "Some just cost more."

He raised his sword. He charged. He was fast. He was Level 4. He was stronger than Lin Yu. But Lin Yu had the ground. He had the traps. He had the Sword Box.

Lin Yu waited. He did not move. He waited for the man to step on the wire. The man was focused on Lin Yu. He did not look down. He stepped.

*Snap.*

The trap triggered. Spikes flew. They hit the man's leg. He screamed. He stumbled. He lost balance.

Lin Yu moved. He drew the Silent Edge. He swung. Shadow Slash. The slash hit the man's neck. The man fell. He did not move.

[Victory Achieved.] The Sword Box said. [Energy Gained: 300. Current Energy: 700.]

Lin Yu walked to the body. He searched it. He found a key. It was metal. It had a number. *Room 404.*

" Sect quarters," Lin Yu thought. "They have a spy inside."

[Yes. The key opens a storage room. Or a safe house.]

"Where?" Lin Yu asked.

[Outer Disciple Section. Building 4.]

Lin Yu took the key. He burned the body. He did not want evidence. He walked back to the sect. He was tired. But he was excited. He had a lead. He had a location. He had a target.

He reached the gate. He slipped in. He went to Building 4. He found Room 404. It was locked. He used the key. It opened. He went in. It was empty. But there was a secret compartment in the floor. He opened it. He found scrolls. He found letters. He found a list.

It was a list of disciples. To be recruited. Or eliminated. Chen's name was on it. As a partner.

"Got you," Lin Yu said.

He took the scrolls. He closed the compartment. He locked the door. He went back to his room. He locked the door. He sat at the table. He read the letters. It was proof. Real proof. Elder Chen was working with the Beast Tamers. He was selling disciples. He was killing them.

Lin Yu smiled. It was a cold smile. It was dangerous.

"Chen," Lin Yu said. "Your turn."

He put the scrolls in his bag. He lay on the bed. He closed his eyes. He slept. He dreamed of fire. He dreamed of justice. He dreamed of the end.

The sun rose. The new day began. The hunt was over. The predator was here. And he was hungry.
