Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Rival’s Shadow

Lyra.

The forest was heavy with mist, thick and clinging to my skin, pressing tight against my chest.

Every breath felt laden with danger, every shadow a threat.

My body still hummed from the ritual, the mark on my wrist throbbing with energy I was only beginning to control.

"You feel that?" the Dark Alpha murmured, claws flexing, golden eyes scanning the gloom like liquid fire.

"They're not just coming for you… they're coming for me too."

Before I could ask what he meant, two figures emerged from the mist.

Taller than any wolf I'd ever seen, they moved with fluid, terrifying grace.

Silver eyes glinted like sharpened blades, slicing through the fog.

One stepped forward, lips curling into a predator's hiss.

"You shouldn't have been marked," he spat. "Now you belong to me."

My chest thudded, not with fear, but with something wild and alive a mixture of adrenaline, anticipation, and the strange thrill of danger.

The Dark Alpha growled, stepping closer, shadow swirling around him like a storm gathering force.

"I said no one touches her," he said, voice low, deep, absolute.

The forest itself seemed to lean in, listening. My hands tingled, energy thrumming through my mark. For the first time, I realized I wasn't helpless anymore.

The silver-eyed Alpha lunged.

Time seemed to fracture as fire and shadow coiled around me, twisting like living things. I rolled to the side, energy bursting from my palms, and a tendril of shadow shot out, latching onto its leg, yanking it off balance.

The second figure leapt at the Dark Alpha, claws flashing. He met it with a roar, fangs sinking into its shoulder, shadow ripping across its chest like black lightning. Sparks of fire licked across the ground as our combined energy collided with theirs, shaking the forest.

I felt the bond flare. Every nerve, every muscle, every heartbeat synced with him. Fire erupted along my arms, shadow wrapped my legs like armor, and I hurled myself at the first silver-eyed Alpha.

Energy lanced from my mark, burning and coiling, and the creature shrieked, staggering back.

The two enemies regrouped, moving with terrifying coordination, forcing us to dodge, strike, and counter in perfect harmony.

Trees splintered under their speed, leaves ignited, and the forest became a storm of claws, teeth, shadow, and fire.

A blow caught me across the side, throwing me against a tree. Pain shot through me, but the Dark Alpha was already there, one hand gripping my waist, the other slamming a creature into the ground with enough force to crack stone.

I rose, energy flaring brighter than ever. Shadow and fire shot from my body in a torrent, striking both silver-eyed figures simultaneously.

One collapsed, pinned to the earth by the swirling shadows.

The other hissed, charging me again but before it could reach me, the Dark Alpha surged from the mist, shadow and flame coiling around him like a living weapon.

Together, we struck in unison a storm of molten gold and black shadow, claws tearing, fire lashing, and the forest itself bending to our will.

Branches whipped like serpents, roots erupted like fists from the earth, and the silver-eyed Alpha finally faltered, staggering back into the mist.

We stood, side by side, panting, muscles trembling, energy crackling around us. The forest was silent, holding its breath, as if acknowledging the bond that had made us unstoppable.

He pressed close, golden eyes burning into mine.

"This is only the beginning," he growled.

"But whatever comes next… we face it together."

And I knew he meant it. Not just as my protector, not just as my mate but as my equal, my storm, and the only one who could keep up with the fire and shadow inside me.
