Lyra.
The silver lake trembled beneath the monster's weight, waves splashing over the cliff's edge. Its wings unfurled, blotting out the moonlight, casting the forest into shadows darker than midnight.
Fangs dripped darkness like molten metal, and its eyes molten red locked onto us, burning through my soul.
I could feel him in every fiber of me, heartbeat, breath, thoughts.our bond thrumming violently, like a second life coursing through my veins.
The Blood Oath had awakened something deeper inside us both, and I realized, with a shiver, that we were no longer just mates. We were weapons.
"Hold onto me!" he shouted, claws digging into the earth, shadow flaring around his form like living armor.
"I won't!" I yelled back, power surging through my veins, fire and shadow twining around my limbs, coiling and snapping like serpents.
The monster lunged, massive claws slicing through the cliff, sending chunks of rock tumbling into the lake. Water exploded upward like a geyser, soaking us with icy spray. Its roar rattled the trees, shaking every branch, and I tasted blood on my lips mine or the monster's, I couldn't tell.
He moved like a shadow incarnate, intercepting the strike with a swipe of his claws, shadow ripping through the monster's arm, leaving black streaks in its flesh.
Flames leapt from my palms, scorching the creature's wing as I screamed, pushing power beyond what I thought possible. Sparks flew. Bark ignited. Mist twisted into black smoke.
"Focus!" he barked.
"Together!"
I nodded, heart thundering.
Fire wrapped around my hands like whips; shadow coiled from my legs to the sky.
Our energies met, intertwining, forming a vortex of light and darkness that surged outward. The monster screamed, fury shaking the air, and staggered back.but it wasn't defeated.
It struck again, faster than thought. I twisted mid-air, shadow shielding me like armor, fire snapping outward to counter its claws. We moved as one, him anticipating every strike, me channeling instinct and raw emotion into power.
Every heartbeat was synchronized; every movement a deadly dance.
The monster reared, wings slamming against the cliff, sending debris raining down. Water churned violently as it prepared for another attack.
My mark blazed, burning hotter than ever. The energy of the Blood Oath screamed through me, and I realized the truth: I could fight alongside him not just as mate, but as equal.
"NOW!" he shouted.
Together, we struck.
Shadow and fire erupted from both of us, colliding with the creature in a brilliant explosion of light, darkness, and molten energy. The shockwave sent trees crashing, waves exploding across the lake, and the beast was thrown backward with a deafening roar.
I felt the wind whipping past my face, my chest aching, muscles trembling but adrenaline screamed louder. Its eyes narrowed, molten red now burning with intelligence and malice.
"You're stronger than I expected," it hissed, voice like grinding stone, reverberating in the air. "But strength alone will not save you."
The Dark Alpha growled beside me, claws flexing, shadow thickening.
"We're not here to survive. We're here to dominate."
I clenched my fists, feeling shadow wrap my arms like armor, fire dancing along my fingers. The lake reflected our combined power a swirling storm of light, shadow, and rage and I realized that whatever ancient creature this was, it had just awakened a new force it couldn't comprehend: us. Together.
The first clash had only begun.
******************
The battle was brutal.
Claws ripped through air and flesh. Flames exploded in arcs, scorching the earth. Shadow tore through the forest like living blades, twisting around trees and leaping into the fray. The monster shrieked, wings beating violently, sending shockwaves that knocked us off our feet.
I felt every wound he took, every strike he landed. Pain and power fused inside me, our bond burning hotter with each hit, feeding both strength and fury.
Then… a searing pain tore through my side.
A blade. Piercing. Sharp. Cold.
I gasped, staggering as crimson soaked my clothes. My breath hitched, the world narrowing to pain and panic. I turned heart pounding.
One of our own pack members, eyes cold and distant, stood behind me, blade buried in my flesh.
"I'm sorry," they whispered.
"But survival always comes first."
Rage and shock collided inside me, igniting the fire and shadow coiling along my arms. I wanted to scream, to strike, but my body shook uncontrollably.
The Dark Alpha's roar cut through the chaos, pure and unrestrained fury. Shadow flared from him like a living storm, and he slammed into the traitor with the force of a hurricane. Bones snapped. The pack member was sent flying across the clearing, coughing blood, unable to move.
I collapsed to my knees, the Dark Alpha catching me instantly, cradling me against his chest. His golden eyes burned into mine. "Stay with me," he whispered fiercely.
"Do not leave me."
The monster shrieked again, diving toward us, claws slicing through the air.
Darkness swallowed my vision as it struck.
Pain exploded across my chest, and I felt myself falling, the world tilting into shadow.
But the bond screamed louder. Fire and shadow surged from me, wrapping around him and me alike, tethering us together. Energy pulsed violently, flaring outward in a protective shield that slammed the monster backward, sending it crashing into the trees with a deafening roar.
I gasped for air, blood hot in my veins, shadow crawling over my skin like a second layer of armor. The Dark Alpha pressed close, his voice low and steady in my ear. "You're stronger than you think. Breathe. Feel me. Feel us."
I clenched my fists, flames igniting along my fingers, shadow swirling around my legs. Pain burned, but power roared through me.
I realized then that the Blood Oath, the bond, was more than connection it was survival, fury, and defiance all fused into one.
The traitor pack member groaned behind us, struggling to rise, but the monster regained its footing, eyes molten and furious. It circled, wings flaring, hunting, testing.
The Dark Alpha gripped my hand. "Together," he growled.
"We end this… or we fall together."
I nodded, fire and shadow lashing outward, my mark blazing hotter than ever. The forest held its breath, trembling, waiting for the next clash.
And I knew, deep in my bones, that nothing would ever be the same.
