I climbed on, the dire horse whinneyd, and shook.
"Ftue txur 'aw, ftue," I said, rubbing the dire horse's neck. I stayed put, not moving, and just had it get used to me. "Take it slow,"
The dire horse began to move slowly. I stayed still and kept my weight balanced on the dire horse's back. The Dire horse kept a slow, steady pace. These creatures are powerful and could throw me with just a thought and a whim. I stayed calm and nudged the dire horse a little, and we got a little speed going. I kept up the balanced weight of the horse, and we got better. The dire horse was comfortable with me on its back, and I was starting to get the hang of going by dire horse back. I sped up again, and we went around some stumps and sticks poking up from the mud and dirt. I noticed females watching with envious eyes. Ney'tar must be the most desired if the girls of his people are upset I'm with him.
