I was speechless, I opened my mouth, but no words came out. What was it with this pack, I wondered again? Now I was being accused of snooping around by this strange woman, whose identity remained unknown to me, and I really didn't have the energy for this now. Couldn't they see I was exhausted and needed food?
I looked from Alpha Gabriel, whose attention was still on me, undivided, then to the beautiful lady clutching closely by his side, too close and overly familiar with her mate for my liking, then to the two burly-looking guards who did not hesitate to apprehend me earlier. They appeared too eager to do their job, but I must commend their fitness; going by looks, they could pass as bouncers, which was a norm for most werewolf males; they were always muscular and on the bigger side, that was unique in comparison to other supernatural beings in our world.
"You see, Gabriel, she can't even say anything to defend herself; I was right! Believe me, I caught her red-handed snooping around your desk. Who knows what she's looking for?" The woman insisted, pointing her manicured finger at me.
"Elvira!" Alpha Gabriel called out, his tone impatient, as if he had had enough trouble for the day. "I wasn't snooping, Alpha," I defended. "I was..." I let out a frustrated sigh. "I was just looking around."
"Just looking around?" One of his beautiful brows raised in an incredulous expression.
"Yes, in fact, she met me standing in front of the window! Not around the desk; she didn't catch me snooping around your desk," I gestured towards the expensive wooden desk.
"Are you calling me a liar?!" the woman shrieked, as if she had been given something awful to swallow.
"Venessa!" Alpha Gabriel growled. Everyone was shaken by the power in his voice. Even the guards took steps back, with heads bowed in submission. So, that was her name, I thought inwardly. I made a mental note to myself to stay away from this Venessa; she was a little scheming bi*ch.
"Who's on duty in the security room?" He turned towards the guards.
"Send for someone to come with a CCTV footage of my office today; everything should have been caught on camera." "Let's know what your true intentions are," he added, staring daggers at me.
"Yes, Alpha," one of the guards responded quickly, then left immediately to get the video footage.
I was not feeling threatened at all; I didn't do anything wrong; in fact, I was happy there was a camera in his office. Of course, there would be a camera, I thought to myself. This was the Alpha's office; it was only proper that security surveillance cameras be installed to keep track of everything here.
I looked towards Venessa, to see her moving awkwardly from one foot to the other; she appeared nervous.
"Good, this is the best way to know the truth," I spoke up, my arms wrapped around my waist to keep my weak frame steady; I was severely exhausted.
"Gabriel, this is just a trifle matter, no need to take it too far. Let's just let her be; I may have not seen things clearly," she explained, trying to die the matter. It was ridiculous for her to suggest that, after she had nearly sent me back to the cell over an unfounded accusation. I would not accept it, either; I refused to let it slide under the carpet; this was my reputation they were talking about, and for someone who intended to join the Silverblade pack. I agree they need to find out the truth and get to the bottom of this, so no one could ever have the guts to tag me badly for anything else in the future.
"No, I would like to get to the root of this myself," Alpha Gabriel said, surprising me. "I want to also know what she has been up to," he added.
I looked over at him. His dark eyes narrowed to slits proved he didn't trust me, either. I felt a sharp pain in my heart, as if he had stabbed me ruthlessly with a sharp-edged blade. Why did his words hurt me? What was I expecting from him? I was a complete, total stranger to him; I had just appeared into his life yesterday through trespassing; of course, he wouldn't trust me.
"But we are mates!" Val, my wolf, whined in pain, as she scrunched down at the corner of my mind, feeling dejected. "Mate should have sided with us, not that scheming lady, Venessa," Val added, pain etching her words that broke my heart.
"He didn't exactly side with her," I defended. "He just doesn't trust us yet, which is understandable, a little. Mate doesn't listen to the bond," I sighed, already tired; I needed a good bath and good food. Whether he trusted me or not was not my priority now. After all, CCTV footage would prove I did nothing wrong here.
"He's taking so long, Gabriel. Maybe we should just let this be," Venessa chimed, trying again to see if he would let go. But Alpha Gabriel said nothing; his hard stare alone indicated he would wait until whenever.
He moved towards his desk and sat on his chair, putting on his laptop. I took a seat myself; I needed to sit my weight down and rest a little. Venessa and the other guard who just stood in the station were the only ones standing.
Just immediately, we could hear footsteps coming towards the office, then, within seconds, the office door opened after a brief knock; the guard scurried in, and behind him, a tall, handsome-looking blonde came in. He looked so good; I caught myself staring at him in appreciation. His physique was fit and muscularly toned, but in a slender manner, and he had a strong authority that showed he was a high-ranking wolf. Maybe it was in the way he carried himself with so much ease and confidence.
He turned towards me, as if he felt my stare, and I found myself lost in the softest hazel eyes I'd ever seen. Who was he?
