When people started awakening with an ability, it was in chaos since no one had the chance to fight those who were drunk in power. A corrupt system made by those who wanted to dominate the ones who didn't gain any prowess as they wanted to enslave them nor degrade them.
Which is why relics started appearing from early to mid ages, awakeners who didn't agree to the abusive and corrupt system help unawakened ones to fight back by infusing objects with their mana and prowess usage. Bows infused with mana became a relic for the capability of being able to generate arrows made out of flames without any drawbacks except when the relic has run out of man in which it needs to rest for a day or two depending on the material and techniques to create it.
Relics are complicated as some will differ as tools for sorcerers to help them expand their techniques and prowess mastery and for unawakened to have something to defend themselves against awakeners.
However, there's a forbidden type that most of the people nowadays refuse to speak of except for sorcerers in duty. Relics that can give others immeasurable power by sealing themselves within it which causes them to gain a life of immortality or a longer life span since they've given their own lives with the benefits of a powerful prowess upgrade.

Eunji gritted her teeth as she watched Rei who was now possessed by the ancient being who just finished incarnating in him. "This is bad… The relic has incarnated!" She grips onto her blade tightly, wondering whether she should eliminate the higher level of threat before finishing off the latter.
"Good fellow, thou dost appear quite replete, I dare say. Hast thou partaken of mine effervescent spirits with such ardour?" His use of language and polite communication threw her off guard as Eunji started to wonder if this incarnated being had lived for a long time before awakeners became a thing.
"Who am I kidding? Of course, you are full." The being spoke in a mocking tone as the entity started to observe the possessed Rei in a mannerism of a predator checking out a prey to hunt. "How cute… Let me entertain you then."
As soon as the incarnated being said those words, Eunji couldn't register what just happened as the only thing she saw was the entity's entire left side immediately bursting into multiple pieces until nothing remained into the air. On the opposite side of the area stood Rei's body who the incarnated being still have taken possession of.
"Weak."
Immediately vanishing as they appeared right in front of the entity before slamming their palm onto its face which caused the creature to vanish as if it was killed instantly.
"Generation after generation. This place never changes…" His voice sends chills down Eunji's spine as she tenses from his presence. The powerful aura it emitted had sent her spiralling into hesitation and the will of her responsibility as a sorceress.
"I wonder…"
The incarnated being looked around as if surveying their surroundings.
"If I can have fun with you ~"
Eunji was surprised when they were in front of her, "What-" their clenched fists immediately tried to land a hit on her face if it weren't for last minute reaction which barely had time to register the pain.
"How nice! Sorceresses to this age still have a lot of worth then!" She was immediately kicked on the head, sending her to the opposite side of the room.
Sylvie felt confused, scared and hopeless. She had plenty of time to stop Rei when he started running while she could've used her prowess to stop time and grab him but went for the worst scenario by freezing up on the spot which led them to this.
"I should help her-" she was wrong with that statement as the moment Rei who was possessed instantly appeared at her side. His powerful presence and aura sent Sylvie's body into shock, processing the natural instinct to not respond and stay obedient against an apex predator.
There is a difference in bravery, one is brave enough to bend the rules to do the right thing and one is brave enough not to mess with the rule to do the right thing. People tend to think of it as a hypocritical mindset for individuals to possess it but it is the cruel truth of reality. For Sylvie's case, it was bravery not to try anything to the powerful being who's in control of Rei's body and the fact with how they instantly killed the entity that the sorceress was having trouble with.

Eunji felt her entire world was spinning. She had no clue how she ended up in that state as she tried to remember what happened. "I was contemplating whether to end Rei right there but how did it…" she muttered to herself before wincing as she held the side of her head upon remembering everything.
"Holy fuck… That was enough to send someone dead or in a coma..." Eunji said to herself before looking over at the incarnated being's back. "If it weren't for the passive ability of my prowess to naturally boost my physical strength and durability, I would've gone straight into a coma." She held onto the wall while looking over to the katana she had dropped on the spot before being kicked at the head.
Eunji healed herself with her prowess as she immediately dashed in while using glowing line strings to pick up her katana on the way to attack the possessed Rei. "Under the regulations of Ethereal and Kamigami Academy, Rei Nishimura will now be executed for the category of SSS rank threat as the 'Fallen'." She reported her statement upon recording it with her device before trying to slice him after catching her katana in mid jump.
The incarnated being only raised an eyebrow while in possession of Rei's body before catching the sharp blade with two his fingers when it was struck down on him.
"That's a wonderful katana… Such a unique craftsmanship." It said before pulling her along with it which threw Eunji off guard. She was surprised at the being's nonchalant attitude from being polite and well-mannered to immediate arrogance and cocky attitude.
Eunji never expected to be taken so easily by the incarnated being as she tried to formulate a plan against them except they were faster since she immediately got punched in the guts which made her drop down to floor on her knees. "You're pretty durable too." It said before tilting her head to have her face looking at him, "Hmmm… Gorgeous face. I wonder what kind of face you make when behind closed doors ~"
His statement made the sorceress blush a little before trying to punch them which was caught almost instantly. "Feisty. Just like my type." They said before lifting her up instantly by pulling on her hair which made Eunji grunted before coughing blood when they punched her again in the guts twice and doubled the power behind the blows. "Impressive. And I thought the first test was just a lucky thing for you."
The incarnated being immediately dashed upon witnessing a bright hue of blue emitting from Eunji as what stood in the place they were before had glaciers spiked up in a way that would've gone through them. "Ice Release?" They muttered before dodging another glacier but in the form of a spear. "To an extent like this? You're quite talented." They smiled before catching her first and kicking her away as they immediately dodged the incoming glacier spikes.
Eunji tried to catch her breath but couldn't due to the injuries she sustained from the hits. "Damnit… I can't keep up…" she held her stomach as she tried to heal herself with her prowess. "I don't have enough mana since I already used most of it to naturally boost my physical attributes and the damage I got from earlier alongside with the kick on the head…"
"I have to end it right here!" Eunji's eyes glowed bright as she focused on enhancing her strength and speed before sprinting immediately to them. She used her left hand to try hitting a vital point but was shocked that the incarnated being just caught her hand almost instantly despite the speed and power she used behind it.
"Nice try." They mocked her as Eunji started to panic after seeing a bright hue of golden yellow aura emitting from them.
"My turn."
