Chapter 3 - Deeper below

"P.. lEs.. e" Those words, how long had it been since then, clutching her fists she looked back. There it was, the thing she had been looking for, what she had hoped to forget. "You.. You aren't real.. None of this is, all of this is a bad dream. Let me wake up.. Before all of this.. I didn't want this.. I NEVER WANTED THIS!" Her heart banged against her chest, anxiety, fear, overwhelming her senses.

"Mira!!" That sharp voice woke her up from her trance, a tear slowly sliding down her cheek. Euthykritos's sharp voice brought her back, he wasn't pleased but that hint of concern which lingered in his eyes was noticeable. He turned away resuming the quiet walk through the halls of the upper floor. Galadriel didn't say a single word either, the silence was more suffocating then she thought it would be. Eventually stopping by a door he lead them inside a room, it was surprisingly advanced with all sorts of machinery.

"You'll be undergoing a assessment of your capabilities and from there we'll decide what you'll be doing next." He led them to one of the various machines, it looked like a sleeping pod, but less comfortable and more intimidating, clearly not meant for sleep. He didn't wait for a response, pushing both of them into their respective machines. The machine closed the second they were inside, a soft light illuminating their bodies. With a small ding the machine finished and opened up, both of the girls rushed out of the machine, the unpleasant feeling lingering. "How unexpected.." He mumbled to himself as he stared at a small screen most likely displaying the data. "Very well.. Your job has been decided, we will offer compensation, you have the right to refuse but then you'll be left to gather living expenses yourself." His authoritative voice run through the room.

Galadriel didn't hesitate, stepping towards Euthykritos "I accept the job." The straightforward reply surprised Mira. She didn't want to know what they'll have to do, but how could she ever survive out here. "I.. I agree.." She knew she should have asked what the job is about, but she couldn't think straight at all. With a small nod Euthykritos led them through the building once more. The next door revealed a room filled with weapons, ranging from swords to even guns. Mira felt her heart sink, she had a feeling it wasn't going to be anything good and her doubts were proved right in front of her. Galadriel seemed stunned herself, with a small sigh she reached for a weapon. She pulled out a spear, beautiful, its pure white handle with the wavy engravements across which seemed surprisingly elegant. Yet Mira remained standing still, she didn't want to, she couldn't bring herself to move at all. With a loud sigh Euthykritos took a sword and handed it to Mira, along with a ranged weapon, a gun. The gun was a basic handgun, but clearly it was special having no magazine to insert or take out with engraved lines across it. "That gun is special, it utilizes your own abilities, to simplify if you have any sort of extraordinary power it'll work. Be it wielding a element of some sort or.." As Euthykritos continued to explain, his words mixed with the soft buzzing of her mind. Staring at the weapons in her hand, she could feel the light shaking in her hands. "Your task is to reclaim a old mine, recently distasteful creatures have overrun it.. It's a major piece to supply many of the devices here along with creating any. Make sure the source of it is exterminated and.. don't enter where you shouldn't." With that he stuffed a map into Galadriel's hands and a change of clothes he sent both of the girls off.

Walking past the entrance of the city, reality sunk in more than ever. The silence between the girls was suddenly broken as Galadriel spoke up. "You can stay behind me when things get tough.. I'll protect you, okay? Forgive me for.." Mira quietly grabbed the fabric of Galadriel's jacket and quietly nodded. The rest of the way was walked in silence, ever so often exchanging glances at each other.

Eventually the entrance of the mine came into sight, it seemed it hadn't been in use for a while. Gazing into the pitch darkness of the mine, it felt ominous and uninviting, decrepit and worn. Mira pointed towards a decently sized box on the side of entrance, with a small nod Galadriel opened the box. It was a electrical box, levers and switches which gave power to the mine. Flipping them on, they finally decided to head into the mine, now the damp and worn paths of the mine lit up.

Heading through the halls it felt eerily empty, not even a single noise. Eventually they reached a room which opened up more, there they finally saw a enemy for the first time. It looked humanoid, yet it was pitch black it seemed like it was almost melting. With a deep moan followed by a screech it lunged at the girls. With a quick step Galadriel moved in front of Mira, blocking the attack with her spear. Pushing back the enemy she swung, the blade sliding through its skin, leaving a gaping wound, black ooze pooling out of it. It made one more loud screech before it fell to the ground, slowly dissipating into thin air leaving behind a pool of the black ooze.

Moving forwards, they went through rooms and rooms, slaying the creatures along the way. Reaching a wide opening with many tunnels to head down. Yet before they could even think, a low roar echoed through the tunnel in front of them, the ground shook and dust fell from the ceiling as something large rushed towards them. Tearing through the exit of the tunnel into the same opening as them. Debris flying as it claws its way in, chunks of the mine barely missing them as they fly past. Galadriel clutched her weapon just a bit tighter as she braced herself for what is about to come next.
