Chapter 1 - 2. She's My Collar

I woke up, grabbed my phone, and saw that it wouldn't turn on at all; it had completely died. I went outside, saw the blinding sunlight, and realized that none of this was a dream.

I looked at the bush, saw that there was still food left near the fire, and sat down to eat my first meal of the day.

After that, I went out and did the same thing I did yesterday. At a local grocery store, I found some things to eat. Luckily, they were still within their expiration date, so I could eat them without worrying.

While still at the market, I saw some creatures walking slowly. They were humanoid spiders. In every aisle I passed, I tried to be as cautious as possible. I wanted to avoid them as much as possible.

I had been to this market with her before, and we even bought a bunch of things to eat for a movie night at home. She looks like a snake, and everywhere I go, she is with me. She is like my necklace. A necklace stuck around my neck; one that I cannot take off.

I left the market and managed to ignore those disgusting monstrosities.

I ran back to my shelter, holding on tightly to everything I had picked up. After returning, I ate a little of everything. It was delicious, very delicious.

After that, I went back to walking around the city, I was bored. I ended up going into a gym, what kind of exercises could I do? I tried the bench press and almost died trying. I don't know how, but I managed to get out of it.

I tried other machines; crossovers; 5kg dumbbells. I managed to do a few sets of bicep curls with the dumbbells, which was good. During my break, I remembered something very important: water. I hadn't drunk any water since yesterday. There must have been a bottle of water, or maybe dozens, in that gym. I looked for them and finally found one. It was a dusty plastic bottle, but I could fix that soon.

I grabbed my things, put the bottle away, and left the gym. I started looking for a river, somewhere with water so I could clean and fill the bottle. In another square, I saw a fountain and filled the bottle there. While filling the bottle, I looked at the bench next to the fountain, where my ex and I were talking. What was the subject again?

"Well, the novel starts off badly, but that's a deliberate choice. Because at the end of the work, it becomes one of the most absurd concepts."

"It seems really interesting, but it hasn't hooked me yet, like you said it would."

"Ah, that's normal, that's how webnovels are."

Ah, of course, we were talking about Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. How wonderful.

Well, at least it was a time when love seemed to exist. After filling the bottle, I closed it with the cap and sat on the edge of the fountain, watching the sky.

The sky was beautiful, which was impressive for a destroyed world. It was a shame that I was alone and there was no other living soul to enjoy this moment with me.

"I wonder what they're doing now?"

It was something that crossed my mind. I wonder how she and my mother are doing, although my mother probably doesn't care about it, or if she does, she's probably suffering in silence.

"Come to think of it, the two of them never met. Honestly, I don't care what they would think of each other, they would probably be apathetic together and that would be normal for me."

I got up from the edge of the fountain and went somewhere else. It was lonely but quite fun to explore the city.

I passed through a very interesting commercial district, which focused mainly on Western culture, specifically Europe and the United States, but also with a little bit of Brazil and Argentina. Until I found a candy store, I wanted something sweeter to eat, so I decided to go in.
