​Euphoria's heart hammered against her ribs as Luce lowered his massive serpent head, bringing it mere inches from her face. She instinctively tried to recoil, but the python was too fast. He flicked his long, bifurcated tongue across her cheek, his gaze holding an uncharacteristic, lingering softness.


​As the chill from his scales radiated against her skin, she gasped in surprise. Taking advantage of the opening, Luce's tongue darted into her mouth. Euphoria's eyes went wide with shock and fury. She shoved him away, glaring at the serpent with a mixture of anger and confusion.


​The weak, pained sound behind her snapped her back to the grim reality of the battlefield. Shoving aside her thoughts of Luce and the dull throb in her own leg, she scrambled toward Wayne.
