Something heavy was breathing on my face.
My eyes snapped open and the massive black wolf stood over my bed, golden eyes locked on me. Its teeth were bared.
I screamed and scrambled backward, slamming into the headboard. "Get away—!"
The wolf lunged. I rolled off the bed, hit the floor hard, and bolted for the door. My nightgown caught on something and tore.
"Rhys!" I yelled, voice cracking. "Rhys! Help!"
No one answered. The hallway was empty. Every door stood open. No lights. No voices. Just my bare feet slapping against the wood. What the hell is going on?
I ran faster. "Somebody! Please!"
The wolf's claws clicked behind me, gaining. I hit the stairs, nearly fell, caught the railing, and kept going. Out the front door, into the cold night air. My nightgown flapped around my thighs, ripped halfway up one side.
But the damn thing kept chasing me. I ran toward the parcel, lungs burning. "Rhys! Where the hell are you?!"
