"You've got to be fucking kidding me."
I stood in the clinic doorway again, arms crossed so tight my muscles ached, watching Lena finish checking Reid over. He sat on the edge of the bed looking pale and pissed off, rubbing the back of his neck.
Lena straightened up. "It wasn't a normal failed shift. His body started the process correctly — bones, muscles, all of it — then something just… stopped it. Like a wall slammed down between his human side and his wolf. Best I can tell, whatever he brought back from the seal messed with the connection."
I let out a harsh laugh. "Great. Another thing on the list. How bad are we talking?"
"I don't know yet," she said. "Could be temporary. Could be more complicated. Without knowing exactly what happened inside the seal, I'm only guessing here, Alpha."
The elders arrived a few minutes later. Sorin studied Reid for a long moment before speaking.
