Elise sat beside me on the grass without saying much. She didn't push or try to fill the silence.
After a while I started talking, letting some of it out because keeping it inside felt worse.
"I'm still so fucking angry," I said. "Callum knew you were my mate. He knew what that meant for me, and he still sent those threats. He still tried to scare you off like you were some problem he could solve behind my back."
I picked at a blade of grass, tearing it into smaller pieces.
"The betrayal isn't even that he thought he was right. It's that he made the call for me," I went on. "Without telling me. Without trusting me to handle it. After everything we've been through, he still didn't trust me."
