It was almost midnight when I heard the knock on my door. I opened it and Rhys stepped inside. He closed the door behind him and walked straight to the bed, sitting down on the edge like he'd done it a hundred times before. His face looked worn out.
"What happened?" I asked, sitting up a little straighter. "Where did you go?"
He rubbed a hand over his jaw, eyes on the floor for a second before he looked at me. "I found out who sent the threats. It was Callum."
I stared at him, the words taking a moment to settle. "Callum? Your beta? The one who's been helping you look for whoever was doing it?"
"Yeah." His voice came out flat, almost disbelieving. "It was my informant who called me. He brought me proof. Scent traces from the phones. It all led back to Callum."
I didn't know what to say right away. I was definitely shocked, too, but I could see how much it was hitting Rhys. His shoulders were tight, his hands resting on his knees like he didn't know what to do with them.
