I drove back to the motel with the windows down, letting the air blow through the car while my mind kept turning the same pieces over and over.
The land wasn't just land. It was where Aldric's wolf had been sealed generations ago. A cursed wolf. And now a wolf kept showing up right in front of me. I kept seeing it step toward me, me stepping toward it, like we were both testing the same invisible line.
What did that even mean? Was it hunting me? That sounded dramatic, but the thought wouldn't leave me alone. Why would it care about me at all? Then another idea slid in. Maybe it wanted the land back. Maybe the whole point was for me to hand the parcel over to the Graymoor pack and be done with it.
