I woke up disoriented. The clock on my phone said it was almost noon. I sat up fast, heart already kicking up. I had slept through half the morning.
My thumb swiped across the screen and I saw the missed calls from Janine, plus a string of messages asking where I was and if I was still alive. The phone had been on silent. I couldn't believe I had forgotten to turn the sound back on last night.
"Dammit," I hissed and ran my fingers through my hair.
Then I collapsed on the bed again and let out a deep, long breath. I stayed under the covers for another minute, staring at the ceiling while everything from yesterday came rushing back in one messy wave.
I still couldn't believe the conversation we had in the conference room where he told me I was his mate. That he had known since the first day. That claiming me would break the seal on his wolf and risk the same disaster that had destroyed half the pack generations ago.
