I walked into the meeting room the next morning already tense.
The elders were all there, same as the other day around the table, with the same spread of papers and those old leather books they liked to dig through. They looked like they had been at it for hours.
Figures.
I pulled out a chair across from Sorin and sat down, not bothering with greetings.
"Tell me you found more…and something useful," I said. "Because I showed Elise the transfer document yesterday and she's not going to sit on her hands much longer."
Maren folded her hands on the table. "We went through everything we still have from the last generation. It's not complete. Things got lost, and bits and pieces were passed down over time. A lot of it got passed down wrong or half-remembered. But there's enough there to piece something together."
Petra slid a thin stack of handwritten notes toward me. "Let's start with Aldric's early life."
"Okay…" I said.
