Adeline stepped up to stop him, but Micah instantly blocked her path by extending his arm. He caught her eye and shook his head firmly, silently telling her not to intervene.
"Your Grace, I merely got a call from the palace asking about you and Miss Adeline. I told Her Majesty that you two were heading out! I have no idea how those two wolves caught you!" the butler blurted out, the panic forcing out far more than he ever intended to say.
"I never mentioned two wolves," Gideon said, his voice dropping to a deadly, freezing register.
With a brutal force, he hurled the butler through the air. The man crashed heavily against a stone pillar before collapsing onto the floor, groaning in agony.
Everyone gasped in horror as the butler coughed violently, blood splattering onto the polished floor. "So, you worked on the Queen's orders, didn't you?"
