Chapter 8 - the legacy

The legacy (what we leave behind)

His side:

I took a young man under my wing many years ago,

Now it's time to watch him spread his wings and fly away.

From the nest he must go.

But I do not send him unprepared,

For we have walked life together for many years.

A lot of shed tears,

Confessions and gentle correction.

I trained him up as if he were one of my own sons.

I am proud to be called spiritual father, mentor, and friend.

This journey has brought me many a great joy.

This is not the end of an era, but a new start.

To raise up the next generation is a calling of the heart.

Her side:

I watched my husband walk in his obedience.

Living out his faith and sharing with that young man.

In doing so, he, my husband, inspired even me.

I started a womens bible study, where we gather together.

Pray, sing hymns, and search out the scriptures.

We sought out to be better wives, better mothers,

And inall this, we also became sisters.

I am older now, and still host from time to time.

Yet do I step back to let the young ones step into purpose,

I voice wisdom, correction in love, and not condemnation.

I allow them to step, and step again, without holding their hand.

What a blessing is this generation after us,

Truly, it was worth it all, and I would surely do it again.

Them together:

Children we have borne,

And children of heart and soul.

Both are near and dear.

Through blood, sweat, and tears,

And carrying eachothers fears,

We have raised up a new generation,

And leave behind a great legacy of rejuvenation.

A light that shall never dim,

Salt that still holds flavor,

Even after we're gone, others can still find the Savior.

Thanks be to God, our Redeemer.
