Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Strange Behavior

The next morning felt… different.

Not because anything had changed.

But because I had.

I sat at the breakfast table, quietly stirring my tea, my eyes constantly drifting toward my parents. They looked normal—just like always.

My father reading the newspaper.

My mother placing food on the table.

Simple. Ordinary.

But now, I couldn't trust any of it.

"Why are you staring like that?" my father asked suddenly, lowering his paper.

I quickly looked down. "I'm not."

He studied me for a moment longer than usual.

Then went back to reading.

But that one moment was enough.

It felt like he knew something.

"Did you finish cleaning the storage room yesterday?" my mother asked.

My hand froze.

"Yes," I replied, trying to sound casual.

"Did you find anything… unusual?"

The question hit me like a shock.

I looked up at her.

Her face was calm.

Too calm.

"No," I said slowly. "Just old things."

She held my gaze for a second… then smiled.

"Good. Some things are better left forgotten."

My heart skipped a beat.

That didn't feel like a normal answer.

That felt like a warning.

The rest of the day, I couldn't focus on anything.

Every small thing started to feel suspicious.

The way my mother kept her phone close to her.

The way my father locked his study room door—something he never used to do before.

The way they stopped talking when I entered the room.

It was subtle.

But I noticed everything.

That evening, I walked past my father's study.

The door was slightly open.

I paused.

Voices.

Low. Urgent.

I stepped closer without making a sound.

"…we should have gotten rid of it years ago," my father whispered.

"I told you that," my mother replied, her voice tense. "But you didn't listen."

"And now?" he asked. "What if she finds out?"

Silence.

My heart pounded so loudly I was sure they could hear it.

"She won't," my mother said finally. "We won't let that happen."

My breath caught.

They were talking about me.

I knew it.

Suddenly, the floor creaked beneath my foot.

The voices inside stopped.

Complete silence.

"Did you hear that?" my father said.

Panic rushed through me.

I quickly stepped back, my heart racing, and walked away as quietly as I could.

A second later, the study room door opened.

I didn't turn around.

I just kept walking.

That night, everything became clear.

They were hiding something.

Something big.

Something connected to that diary.

I sat on my bed, staring at the wall, my thoughts spinning.

If they were willing to lie…

If they were afraid of me finding out…

Then whatever the truth was—

It had to be worse than I imagined.

I clenched my hands tightly.

No more waiting.

No more fear.

Tomorrow…

I was going to search that study room.

Because the truth wasn't just hidden anymore.

It was right in front of me.

And I was getting closer.
