Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Diary

I was never supposed to find that diary.

It was a quiet afternoon. The kind that feels too still, like something is waiting to happen. My mother had asked me to clean the old storage room upstairs—a place we rarely used, filled with dust-covered boxes and forgotten memories.

At first, I didn't think much of it.

I opened old cartons, found broken toys, faded photographs, and clothes that no longer belonged to anyone. Everything felt normal… until I noticed a small wooden box hidden behind a stack of books.

It didn't belong there.

Something about it felt different.

I pulled it out slowly, brushing away the dust. My hands hesitated for a moment before opening it. Inside, there was a diary. Old. Worn out. The edges of the pages had turned yellow, as if they had been waiting for years to be touched again.

I don't know why—but my heart started beating faster.

I opened the first page.

And that's when everything changed.

Written in careful, neat handwriting were the words:

"This is the truth she must never know."

My breath caught in my throat.

"She?" I whispered to myself.

As I turned the page, my hands began to shake.

The next line froze me completely.

My name was written there.

Not just once… but over and over again.

It didn't make sense.

Why would my name be in a diary I had never seen before? Why was it hidden? And most importantly—

What was the truth I was not supposed to know?

Footsteps echoed from downstairs.

I quickly closed the diary, my heart pounding loudly in my chest. For a moment, I stood there, frozen, staring at the box as if it might disappear.

"Are you done cleaning?" my mother called out.

Her voice sounded normal. Calm. As if nothing in the world had changed.

But something had.

I looked back at the diary.

And in that moment, I knew one thing for sure—

I couldn't ignore this.

I wouldn't.

Because whatever was written inside that diary…

Was about me.
