That night.
Outside a secluded room in Kamar-Taj, a sudden series of knocks rang against the door.
"Master, has he still not woken up?"
After receiving no response from inside the room for a long while, a man with a righteous-looking face stood outside the door. His raised hand hesitated for a split second before his eyes abruptly changed.
He leaned his upper body back slightly and looked around. Seeing no one nearby, he shifted his feet and slipped through the crack in the door without leaving a trace.
"Master isn't here..."
Ever since joining Kamar-Taj, he had never seen the Ancient One look as worn down as she had recently.
Her eyes were always filled with apology, as though she had done something to wrong someone.
At the same time, everyone could sense that the Ancient One's power was weakening. Many sorcerers were guessing that it was because she had been constantly helping the mysterious person in this room.
"I'd like to see just who could make her stand guard day and night."
The man carefully closed the door.
The room was not large, and the light was dim. He cast a minor spell, and everything inside immediately came into view.
"This is the person?"
On the bed against the wall, a young man lay quietly. He did not look very old. His features were proper and gentle, the sort that made people instinctively feel goodwill at first sight.
The man condensed a golden spell blade and cautiously approached the young man in small steps.
"Buzz..."
As he drew closer, a low hum suddenly sounded in the room, which had been so quiet that a dropped needle could have been heard.
The sound was not loud, but when it entered his ears, it made the man's entire heart tremble.
An aura filled with destruction and despair came from every direction. In a daze, he even felt as though he had been thrown into an abyss, with nothing but endless darkness in sight.
The next moment, a bright black-purple light shone from the young man's body, illuminating the room and dragging the man out of the darkness.
Terrifying power surged upward. The pressure spilling out made the man's knees go weak, and his eyes widened instantly.
He watched helplessly as the young man's body was mercilessly torn apart by that power. Countless wounds split open across his skin, so deep that bone could be seen. His entire body nearly shattered completely.
The horrific injuries made the man's eyelids twitch. Any one of those wounds would have killed him on the spot, yet on this person, they seemed no worse than a scrape.
The next second, wounds spread almost across the young man's entire body began healing at a visible speed. After only a few breaths, they had completely returned to normal. Through the entire process, not even a trace of blood flowed out.
The cycle of shattering and self-healing repeated several times. The man stood blankly beside the bed. The spell blade in his hand had already scattered into sparks at some unknown point, but he himself was completely unaware.
The pressure brought by the black-purple power on the young man's body made his legs go weak against his will. Deep in his heart, an urge to kneel and worship even began to rise.
Any sorcerer would covet such destructive power, and yet it tugged at his heartstrings like honey.
"This power..."
The man bent down involuntarily and reached both hands toward the young man in a daze.
"Kaecilius, what are you doing?"
At some unknown point, the Ancient One had appeared in the room. Her voice made Kaecilius's entire body stiffen, and he could not stop himself from shuddering.
"I... I came to see this person..."
Kaecilius's throat bobbed twice in quick succession, and an almost imperceptible tremor entered his voice.
He turned around, his gaze flickering as he forced out a smile. "I saw how hard it was for you every time you helped him, Master, so I wanted to see if there was anything I could do."
As he spoke, the light on Fenris's body grew brighter and brighter. With his back to the bed, Kaecilius sensed the energy fluctuation, and his body trembled uncontrollably again.
"I'm glad you had that thought."
The Ancient One calmly studied this excellent sorcerer before her, taking in every one of his reactions. "Thank you, but that won't be necessary."
"In that case, Master, I'll take my leave."
Hearing that, Kaecilius did not dare stay any longer. He bowed slightly, then fled the room as if escaping.
"Sigh."
Inside the room, the Ancient One let out a long sigh of unclear meaning.
"I didn't expect that even someone as powerful as the Sorcerer Supreme could teach a student with such impure motives."
A slightly teasing male voice sounded. The Ancient One turned back and saw that Fenris had quietly sat up from the bed. His bright eyes were especially striking in the darkness.
His entire body was covered in terrifying wounds, yet he looked as if nothing had happened. Even the intense pain only made him bare his teeth slightly.
"Fenris, when did you wake up?"
The Ancient One froze.
"Just now, when you decided to test Kaecilius."
Fenris got up, grimacing as he moved his body, but he still did not forget to tease her. "Since you're so conflicted, wouldn't it be simpler to strip him of his magic and expel him from Kamar-Taj?"
"If I drive away one Kaecilius, another one like him will appear. Doing that would have no meaning."
The Ancient One smiled and shook her head. Looking at the two powerful dimensional forces intertwined across Fenris's body, rejecting each other yet miraculously coexisting, she suddenly said, "Fenris, would you mind having a few more sorcerer subordinates like Kaecilius?"
"What?"
Fenris froze mid-motion, unable to understand what the Ancient One meant for a moment.
"Nothing."
The Ancient One shook her head and skipped over the topic on her own. Her face filled with apology. "I'm sorry, Fenris. I truly didn't expect the hell dimension to harm you like this."
Both powers clearly could have greatly strengthened Fenris, even allowing him to evolve two entirely different powerful forms.
The Ancient One had never expected that the simultaneous existence of two dimensional forces would make Fenris suffer like this.
If his earlier tempering had not given him abnormal adaptability and nearly limitless regeneration, then the consequences...
As she spoke, the Ancient One reached out and took a radiant egg from a hidden place, then handed it to Fenris. "This is what you gave me earlier. I'm returning it to you."
"This thing is very important to me. At a critical moment, it might even save my life."
Fenris shook his head and pushed the Ancient One's hand back. "If you feel guilty, Master, then please keep it safe for me."
"Fenris, what exactly is this?"
It was rare for the Ancient One to see Fenris act so cautiously. After carefully putting away the seven-colored egg, she asked curiously.
"Something I hope I'll never have to use."
Fenris laughed, but he did not explain.
As his strength increased, the Mothra power hidden within him had also been silently growing stronger.
Unlike Godzilla and Kong, Mothra's current combat ability was not especially outstanding.
But Mothra possessed one ability that other Titans could only look up to.
That was the power of near-undying immortality.
