Chapter 89 - The Corrupted Police Part Five

The moment the battle began—

Saito rushed forward.

His sword flashed through the air.

SLASH!

One officer was sent crashing to the ground.

Another tried to raise his rifle—

but Saito's blade struck first.

CLANG!

The weapon split apart.

Saito kicked the officer backward.

"Too slow."

Nearby—

Rin was laughing like a madman.

His massive scythe spun wildly around him.

"This is what I waited for!"

WHOOSH!

The officers jumped back to avoid the sweeping blade.

One wasn't fast enough.

The scythe's shaft struck his chest and sent him tumbling across the dirt.

Rin grinned.

"Come on!"

"Don't stop now!"

Elsewhere—

Kaito vanished.

The officers immediately looked around.

"Where did he—"

THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!

Several knives struck the ground among a police squad.

The officers froze.

Then Kaito appeared beside one of the knives.

Right in the middle of them.

"Oh."

"Crap."

SLASH!

A quick strike sent one officer down.

Then Kaito vanished again before the others could react.

Meanwhile—

Bomb stepped forward.

He brought his hands together.

BOOM!

A shockwave erupted outward.

Several officers were launched off their feet.

Bomb clapped again.

BOOM!

More officers went flying into barrels and fences.

"Next."

Back at the bar—

Alya stood beside the glowing shield.

The rainbow barrier shimmered around her, Fanny, and Malfoy.

Alya watched the battle nervously.

"We're safe here."

Malfoy nodded.

Still staring at the chaos outside.

Fanny looked at Saito and his crew fighting dozens of officers.

For the first time—

she truly understood why the entire city knew the name:

Blue Scarf.

Matthew stepped backward.

His confident smile was gone.

"Crap."

Around him—

officers were being thrown across the battlefield.

Some crashed into trees.

Some into barrels.

Some simply ran.

Then—

Matthew felt it.

A stare.

He looked up.

Saito.

Standing among the fallen officers.

Sword dripping.

Blue scarf fluttering in the wind.

And smiling.

A smile directed entirely at him.

Matthew's stomach tightened.

"This is not what I expected."

Another officer flew past him after being struck by Bomb's shockwave.

BOOM!

The man crashed into a fence.

Matthew gritted his teeth.

Then pointed at the battlefield.

"Call for backup!"

The nearest officer immediately grabbed a radio.

"We need reinforcements!"

Matthew clenched his fists.

"They're all here!"

"Blue Scarf Gang!"

Meanwhile—

Saito slowly started walking toward him.

Not running.

Not rushing.

Just walking.

Each step made Matthew more nervous.

Behind Saito—

Rin swung his scythe in a wide arc.

"Hahaha!"

"Come on!"

Kaito appeared and disappeared among the officers like a ghost.

Bomb continued launching people through the air.

And near the bar—

Alya's shield continued protecting Malfoy and Fanny.

Fanny watched the battlefield with wide eyes.

"They're actually winning..."

Malfoy stared at Saito.

"No."

"They already won."

Across the battlefield—

Saito rested his sword on his shoulder.

Then looked directly at Matthew.

"What's wrong, Captain?"

"I thought you wanted to arrest me."

Matthew's jaw tightened.

For the first time since arriving at the bar—

he was no longer looking at a wanted criminal.

He was looking at the man who conquered Jokun City.

The battle continued raging around the bar.

Then suddenly—

FZZZT.

The rainbow shield flickered.

Alya's eyes widened.

"Oh no."

The barrier shimmered one last time.

Then disappeared completely.

Malfoy's face paled.

"The shield!"

Alya quickly picked up the device.

"The battery is low."

Before she could do anything—

one of the remaining officers noticed.

His eyes lit up.

"There!"

He raised his pistol.

And aimed directly at Alya.

Alya froze.

The officer pulled the trigger—

But at that exact moment—

THUD!

A fist slammed into his face.

The officer flew sideways.

Crashing through a pile of crates before smashing into a tree.

Everyone blinked.

Including Alya.

Standing in front of her—

was Fanny.

Her fist was still raised.

Breathing heavily.

"I got your back."

Alya stared.

Then noticed something.

Pinned to Fanny's clothes—

was a small blue scarf symbol.

The same one from Alya's outfit.

Alya pointed at it.

"Oh."

"I've been looking for that."

Fanny immediately looked down.

Then awkwardly touched the symbol.

"...Sorry."

"I borrowed it when you were asleep."

Alya smiled.

"You could've asked."

Fanny looked away.

A little embarrassed.

"Yeah."

"Well."

"I didn't."

Alya laughed.

Then glanced at the symbol again.

"It looks good on you."

Fanny froze for a second.

Then quickly crossed her arms.

"Don't make it weird."

But despite her words—

she didn't take it off.

And for the first time—

Alya realized Fanny wasn't wearing the symbol because it looked nice.

She was wearing it because somewhere along the way—

she had started believing in what it represented.

Saito continued cutting through the remaining officers.

Completely focused on the battle.

Then—

"Kaito shouted."

"Saito! Look out!"

Saito turned.

Too late.

Matthew had already closed the distance.

A pistol pressed against Saito's head.

The battlefield froze.

Matthew smirked.

"No more moves, Blue Scarf."

Kaito's eyes widened.

Bomb stopped.

Rin stopped.

Even Alya froze.

Matthew looked at the crew.

"Put your weapons away."

"Or he gets it."

The officers immediately took advantage of the situation.

Kaito slowly dropped his knives.

Clink.

Rin lowered his scythe.

Bomb raised his hands.

One by one—

the police surrounded them.

Handcuffs clicked into place.

Matthew laughed.

"Finally."

"I caught you."

Saito rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah."

"You happy now?"

Matthew's grin widened.

"Happy?"

He pressed the gun harder against Saito's head.

"Not yet."

His voice became colder.

"I want to kill you first."

"And tell everyone you resisted arrest."

The surrounding officers laughed.

Kaito clenched his fists.

Rin's jaw tightened.

Bomb stared silently.

Alya looked worried.

Fanny looked furious.

Malfoy looked helpless.

Matthew enjoyed every second of it.

Then—

Saito slowly raised one hand.

Just enough for his crew to see.

A simple finger signal.

Calm down.

Kaito immediately understood.

Rin understood too.

Bomb nodded slightly.

None of them moved.

None of them fought back.

Matthew smirked.

Thinking he had finally won.

Completely unaware—

that Saito was still strangely calm despite having a gun pointed at his head.

The tension in the air was unbearable.

Matthew's gun remained pressed against Saito's head.

The Blue Scarf crew stood surrounded.

Handcuffed.

Outnumbered.

Then—

a new voice cut through the silence.

"I'll take it from here, Captain Matthew."

Everyone turned.

Captain Norway had arrived.

Several officers stood behind him.

Matthew's expression immediately darkened.

"Oh no."

"No, no."

"I got them."

Norway ignored him.

Instead, his eyes moved across the scene.

The unconscious officers.

The damaged road.

The destroyed barrels.

Then—

his gaze landed on Malfoy and Fanny.

His brow furrowed.

"Why are you arresting civilians too?"

Matthew answered immediately.

"They were helping the Blue Scarf Gang."

Norway looked at them for a moment.

Then nodded.

"I see."

He continued walking.

Eventually stopping in front of Saito.

The two stared at each other.

Norway glanced at the gun pointed at Saito's head.

Then back at Saito.

"You look troubled, Blue Scarf."

Saito shrugged as much as the situation allowed.

"Yep."

"I am."

Norway almost smiled.

Almost.

Then he continued walking.

Toward Malfoy and Fanny.

Malfoy immediately stepped forward.

"Sir, he—"

Matthew shot him a warning glare.

The fox beastman immediately fell silent.

Norway noticed.

But said nothing.

Instead—

he examined the father and daughter.

Then looked at one of his officers.

"Squad."

"Check them."

The officers nodded.

A few moments later—

they searched both Malfoy and Fanny.

Looking for weapons.

Evidence.

Anything suspicious.

Finding nothing.

Meanwhile—

Matthew was growing increasingly irritated.

"You can leave now, Norway."

Norway didn't even look at him.

"Why?"

Matthew's jaw tightened.

"I told you."

"I've got this."

Norway finally turned toward him.

His expression remained calm.

But his eyes were sharp.

"So you can do something stupid?"

The surrounding officers exchanged nervous glances.

Everyone could feel the tension between the two captains.

Norway folded his arms.

"I'll supervise."

"Until everyone arrives at the base."

Matthew's grip tightened around his pistol.

"I said."

"I've got this."

Norway didn't move.

Didn't back away.

Didn't blink.

For a long moment—

the two captains simply stared at each other.

And Saito quietly realized something.

Matthew wasn't afraid of Blue Scarf.

He was afraid of Norway.
